AllyMilne replied to lemonjelly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The weather in Spain is pretty good at the moment as far as i can tell, one of the members of our uni skydiving society completed his AFF out there at the moment in 4 days with Active skydiving which is pretty good going, they do discounts for uni students check out the website at activeskydiving.co.uk -
Who's going to the BPA AGM? And what's your plan?
AllyMilne replied to BethUK's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think us lot from Edinburgh and Glasgow are getting down some how, glasgow mentioned a minibus? Watch this space, if we have room im sure it wouldnt be a problem -
Ok after looking through the dropzone section(the uk bit) i noticed that not many actually have review and the few that do are normally biased so i have a plan. If everyone goes and reviews all the dropzones that they jump at then we can get a well accurate picture of what dropzones to go to if we are travlling about. This is basically aimed at the uk guys and girls but its makes snese that everyone should do it, Ally

Skydiving Death vs. Alcohol Death.
AllyMilne replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I though they were the same thing, as the BPA controls skydiving for the CAA and therefore was law? -
Well come up to st Andrews this weekend, weather looks good and we got night jumps on.
-
Well i chased a tandem when i had about 80 jumps. I had to check it with the CI and he said as long as the tandem master agreed. Well one didnt, (just got his rating) and the other was my dad so he gave me a brief on what to do and what not to do. In the end i didnt want to get to close and it all worked out fine.
-
This has got me really annoyed how dare they bugger you like this. I agree what darrenspooner said above, speak to the CI, but if you dont get any response the next time any of them jumpers blank you just walk over and ask them 'how dare they treat you like this'. If this dz is soo unfriendly i want them to be named and shamed and of course there are 2 sides to every storey, so i want them to responed, they must know who they are. Good luck dude

I know what you mean, sorry no solution here.

If no night jumps and no packing left then beer else beer
-
so when they ask if you want to go to the pub on sat you just reply, sorry 'cult meeting'. Sounds a bit more mysteroius..

How much cost to sd in europe
AllyMilne replied to liquidfire's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Its the same eveywhere in britain, some places are cheaper if you join, eg £4 plus the number of feet in thousands eg 10k cost £14. I think a lot of it is aviation fuel overhere is expensivce(along with everything else) and ive heard form alot of DZO's and CCi's that they only break even on expenceid lifts thats why student/tandem lifts go up first as they pay for everything. AS for jumps abroad remember only BPA instuctors can give BPA qualifications, and the BPA instuctos are the most regulated so you would assume are better. -
I know i guy that got his in 15 jumps, but you have to combine exercises and jump from nearly altitude to maximise freefall time.

Skydiving: How Old Then, How Old Now?
AllyMilne replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

A great dropzone in scotland with loads of students and great instuctors to lighten those rainy days. Always get a lift in if your there for the weekend. Tubine islander in the summer and cheap bar thats open late. Plenty of videos to watch on those rainy days. Great packing hall and modern and well ran manifet. Very progressive.

i wee question from scotland
AllyMilne replied to caledoniankid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you got the money do AFF ( you can only do that at St Andrews in Scotland) otherwise its the long slog of RAPS. If your at uni join your Skydiving society(its cheaper), most jump at Errol or St Andrews, if your not a student.find the nerarest drop zone and if you've not been on a course yet get on one. Then show up at the drop zone every weekend and learn. Since thers only 3 drop zones in scotland it might be worth going to each and doing a couple of jumps. Not sure of Straths prices but Errol is £25 a jump for students and £30 for non students. St Andrews is £40 and £30. Its best if you take up the sport with a few friends so you can share transport and encourage each other during the many off days. Brunton(Northumbria) is also worth a look as its only 2.5 hours south of edinburgh and its got a great atmosphere. If you got any futher questions about jumping in scotland then mail me at hwuss@hotmail.com Ally -
AFF or Static line...which is the best?
AllyMilne replied to Testikjel's topic in Safety and Training
"or you can go S/L and get more canopy time... " well not per jump as an aff students pulls at 5, a s/l student is open about 3 so the aff student is getting 2k more canapy time. If doing it the BPA way you have to complete 10 consol jumps, assuming you get aff in 10 jumps and on the consols you pull at 4 thats 90k of canapy time compared to doing RAPS in 30 jumps pulling at 3k is about the same.
