I like to take people up on CRW jumps right off AFF, because I think it's important for them to learn canopy control as early as possible. I only have 45 jumps, but 15 of those are CRW so I know what I'm doing.
First, I help them pack for a quick opening. If they don't have their own gear, I help them choose something to rent. Usually I try to find something small because it opens quicker.
Next I put a camera helmet on them. I usually borrow one out of the video room. I'm sure no one minds. It is very important to have a record of your jump, especially if you're drunk while you're doing it. Sometimes it is very hard to remember what happened.
On the ride to altitude, I give them a briefing on what to expect. Usually the ride is very short because we only go to about 2,000 feet. We don't need much altitude because we're not going to be in freefall very long. I tell them to let me dock on them, and even if it's really hard, not to scream, because I might get confused and think they're telling me to cut away. I'm really bad about that.
The last time I did a CRW jump with a newbie was a lot of fun. I didn't let go of him until almost time to flare. He was screaming with excitement the whole way down! He drank a lot of beer that night in celebration.
So remember that CRW is the best way to learn canopy control, and try to have something to drink a little while before your load. It helps everyone relax, and is a good way to socialize and get to know your newbie.
Stay safe!
