  1. Whatever women you're seeing will be happy to tell you what you want. I'm almost 40 and still don't know what I want to be when I grow up. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  2. 1:1:0 1 sprained ankle on the only jump I made Saturday. Stayed on the ground all day because of the gusty conditions, but got jumpitis toward the end of the day. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg

  4. 1:0:0 One daughter graduated from high school and all the family in town to celebrate. Had to work all weekend and any off time I had was spent with the visiting relatives. Will definetly be back up in the sky next weekend. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  5. Just 1, but it was on AFF level 1. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  6. Jump 24 for me. Found a good used rig at a good price and had the money at the time. Renting gear was really limiting my jump numbers. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  7. Well, with your 3 tandems, you had twice as many jumps as I did when I had my first cut-away. Mine was low speed, one steering line was tangled with the slider and wouldn't clear. It didn't pass the 3 S's, I cut it away. Actually one of my better landings during AFF.
  8. IMHO we in Georgia should just run up a white flag and forget about it. We have wasted so much time, energy and money on this issue that could have been put to many better uses. For a symbol that should promote unity and pride in our state, the flag (no matter which one is flying) is not likely to do either. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  9. I have seen several people at my DZ progress fine this way although the decision I made was to save those 3 jumps a month up until I could make 9 jumps in one month. I felt that for me, I needed to do them as close together as possible. Depending on where you jump, weather can also be an issue when you are close to that 30 day limit and get a crappy weather weekend. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  10. Had to get it as a kid to start school, along with all the other little kids. Nobody gave it a second thought back then. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg

  12. I'm not sure how this effects a dropzone as I'm not aware of their insurance situation, but many companies in Georgia get a 15% discount on their workers comp insurance by instituting a drug and alcohol training and testing program. As I don't know the employment arrangement at most DZ's or the programs in other states, this may or may not make a difference. I know in my field, construction, workers comp insurance is our 3rd largest expense and 15% off makes a very big difference to our bottom line. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  13. Whether he is following his convictions or just trying to get out of the war, the fact remains that he is still guilty of being UA. If his unit was sent to another base, even stateside, he is also guilty of Missing a Movement, which the Marines take a little more seriously. There is a proper way to apply for CO status, without violating the UCMJ. The Corps could very well approve his application and still throw him in the brig for a very long time. I wonder if swinging a sledge at a poor defenseless rock also violates his sensibilities? _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  14. Speaking as someone recently graduated from AFF, I would definitely agree about the heading. A quick glance at the horizon as you mentally say heading without it really connecting. I was more concerned with keeping an eye on my JM than any ground reference. My first jump, after the canopy opened and I completed the control check, I looked for the airport for 1K feet of my descent. Finally just before panic set in, I happened to glance straight down and realized it was directly under me. (maybe that wasn't the time to be looking at the horizon for a heading) Couldn't believe I hadn't even looked for it in freefall. I also wonder if making this point to the students wouldn't help with the many who seem to have problems with spinning? Quote from another thread_____________________ But then, when I did AFF in Arizona, on my second jump there, I noticed the mountains in the horizon. And suddenly, I could actually keep a heading. 15. I always tried to do more than 1 level a day, and found it more important to do that when things didn't go quite right. (didn't want to leave the DZ on a negative note) Decided after my first jump that I needed to save up until I could complete my AFF in a shorter period of time rather than stringing it out. So after a couple of months away, I had to repeat my level 1. One of my toggles was stuck on opening and wouldn't release. Ended up having to cut away. Went up the same day and did levels 2 & 3. Felt that if I didn't go right back up, I might not. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  16. I always have a few butterflies the first jump or two of the weekend. Usually they go away as soon as the door opens and I get ready to exit. The only time I remember being really nervous was the first time I jumped a canopy I packed all by myself. Much more so than even my first AFF. _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
  17. 1:4:4 1 used rig purchased, 4 woderful jumps on it. At my jump numbers, it's easier to list what I don't owe beer for

  24. Hey fredbro, Welcome to Sky diving!! At 6'2" and 145 lbs, I guess I would fall into that category too. My AFF instructors had to put me into the tightest suit they had and they practically wore tents to be able to match fall rates. What finally helped me was learning to relax into the arch instead of trying to force my body into it. The harder I tried to arch, the more tense I became and the less arch I'd get. The other thing that seemed to help was concentrating on my breathing. Every time I exhaled, I'd relax into the arch a little farther. I could practice breathing and relaxing while visualizing the dive on the ground and the ride up which seemed to make things go much smoother in the air. Hope this helps _______________ D28695 PoPs #9237 "Mix ignorance with arrogance at low altitude and the results are almost guaranteed to be spectacular" — Bruce Landsberg
