    New Apex Gear

HAHA Nice! Well I was going to go with the Warlock but they took it out of production. I rented gear for my first 2 jumps at Bridge Day 04 and I liked it a lot (mostly comparing Pin to Velcro aspect for my decision). I don't know a whole lot about the differences between all the pin containers but I went with the DP because Karen and Todd recommended it so I figured it was a good choice.

Hey Jaap, I've got a picture of the container they sent me to show me what my new gear will look like. I'll post it when I get home from work. Then I'll post my personal rig picture when I get it tomorrow. D

    Got Training?

For those of you who do Aerial Maneuvers, what kind of training do you have?
  7. 1. Haha yea for real. What was I thinking! 2. Yea I will. They are small but its not worth the risk. 3. Yea If he would have had his cell I would have told him to jump. I still wonder why the cop didn't wait for us if he saw my buddy on the tower.
  8. Yea, That’s a good point. The stickers are small though so it would be hard to see with the cars backed in like we had them. It was just a guess cause we can't really think of any other reason why the cop would just leave like that without knowing why our cars were there… Well what we have been trying to do for night jumps is climb as the sun is going down "gloomy light" and then jump when the light is just barely there that way it’s not completely dark. Most of the time we do morning jumps. Climb in the dark and right as there is a crack of light jump so it’s not completely black. We should probably stick to morning jumps, ey? Note: I personally haven’t jumped yet other than B-day because I don't have my gear yet.
  9. Hey everyone, The other day my buddy and I went to a tower in our area. Unfortunately I had to be his ground crew because I am still waiting to receive my new gear. He started climbing as the sun began to go down and reached the platform at 540 about 20 minutes later. My buddy was on the platform for a while and because he forgot his cell phone I had no way to contact him. He began to climb down, which was strange because the winds seemed fine. He reached the ground and said, “I’m getting arrested.” Turns out someone saw him climbing and called the police. He saw the cop drive into a few of the access roads for other towers near the one we were at so he figured he would just climb down. We started walking back through the woods to get our cars and about 150 yards off we saw a bright light come over our cars. It was the cop with his spotlight. We were like “S**T.” Surprisingly we got back to the cars and he was gone. I told my buddy to throw his gear in his trunk while I looked down the road for the cop. He wasn’t there!! We hopped in our cars and drove off. I called him as we were driving off and was like “WOW THAT WAS LUCKY!” We talked it over with a few of our other base friends and we are thinking that the call probably came out as something other than someone was going to base jump off the tower. We are thinking that when the cop finally found the right tower where we were at and he saw a few of the stickers my buddy and I have on ours cars for skydiving and knew what we were doing and didn’t care, so he left. If that is the case that is one awesome cop!!

    Acrobatic BASE

    Thanks for your two cents!

    Acrobatic BASE

Cool thanks. I’ll probably give a few of the college athletic departments in my area a call and see if they can give me some direction. I don’t know of any facilities or squads in the area so I will probably have to travel, but like you said, “the results are clearly visible.” Yea I’ll be straightforward with them. I went to one of the many gymnastics gyms in my area and told them what I needed and what I was planning to do and although they didn’t have the tools they gave me a few places that might. The staff there would have had no issues with helping me but they did say I was crazy! Ha

    Acrobatic BASE

Hi Everyone, I am in need of some information if possible. I am a newbie in BASE but in the future once I get some jumps under my belt I would like start working with acrobatic BASE. I have seen some amazing videos and it has caught my attention big time. I have a few resources for the training harnesses that are used by gymnasts in my area but I am unable to find any resources for high diving. I saw on the OLN special Fearless that Dwain did a lot of work on the harnesses and read online that Jeb trains with Hong Ping Lee, an ex-Olympic high diver for his training. I have looked online and can’t seam to find anything for lessons or training for high dive anywhere. I think a combination of both would be the best in preparing for this type of BASE jump. I am located in Virginia and am willing to travel 1-2 states away. So, if anyone has any info on places that I would be able to get some training for high diving it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! David
  13. What are the appropriate bridle lengths for each PC. 36, 38, 42 and 46. I saw the posting for this same question but in WS BASE and it made me wonder. I just ordered new gear and do not remember if I had asked this question previously. Thanks
  14. Yea...Good point. I could have sworn I was told that venting my 36 and 46 wasn't necessary. I tried to refer back to the email but I can't find it. I guess I'll just keep my mouth shut in the future.
  15. Hey there! I am a new BASE jumper and I just purchased gear from Apex BASE and this also was a big question I had while looking at what to order. Todd and Karen at Basic Research explained as follows: They told me that of your 4 pilot chutes, lets say you have sizes 36, 38, 42, 46, you would want your 38 and 42 to be vented, 36 and 46 non-vented. They explained to me that a vented pilot chute prevents osculation that would pull the canopy into an off heading opening in the mid range freefall speeds. They said you could vent your 36 but it isn’t really necessary because a jump at terminal would allow adequate time to get away from the object where an off heading openning would not cause an object strike. They said it was also not necessary to have your 46 vented because PC osculation would not occur with the short delay (0-1.5 delay). Hopes this helps, and again I not an expert in base. Just being helpful and sharing what I was told. David
