Yeah - like he really knows what he's talking about!!!! whatever All good points...and consider your experience level FIRST when deciding to throw 'extra' stuff into the mix! And, Ladyskydiver has good points...do this in a place that SHE feels means something to her...because BION - the proposal isn't about YOU!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. I have a few good ones that I'm reserving for my own 'proposal', but I like the sign on the ground idea as well. I've also seen various forms of signs in the sky, too. Perhaps the best idea i've seen/heard about was the videographer who filmed his girls first tandem...and when he was under canopy - he took his helmet off and filmed himself asking her to marry him. Then, while she was still buzzing about the skydive, and sharing it with all of her family - he popped the video in on the big screen at the dz...and when his canopy opened, he was already on one knee with the ring. She was too busy watching the movie to realize it...and when he asked, she almost kissed the t.v. instead!! It was cool - but it would take some practice taking your helmet off and on while under canopy, and you'd want to make sure you secure your camera helmet to your body somehow (I've seen all sorts of "leashes" used for this purpose) ...cause if she says no - you don't want to be out any of your gear!! LOL!! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Rigger, RN/BSN/Paramedic

What can we do about Skyride?
pyke replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Just an observation, but for all you skydiving lawyers out there... ...ever heard of pro-bono?? I'm sure it wouldn't take much out of your already busy, client-filled day to further expose an injustice within your weekend hobby - thus making the greater community which belong to - even GREATER!! So, c'mon...do some good - make a name for yourself, and hell - quit f***in' around on dz.com for 10 minutes and look up some precedents on the matter so we can file something!!! The school you're talking about is run out of Wigram AFB in Chch, NZ. It's a good dropzone, with a great idea about starting a professional certification for 'managing' a dropzone. They teach you the importance of spotting, manifest, operations, marketing, sales&revenue, etc - as well as take you up to 200 skydives. (this is all that I have found out about them - perhaps they/someone can expand on it). Re: Video flying...there's no substitute for putting a camera on your head and flying with it. Not sure on the BPA's req's, but you have a ways to go before the USPA would "allow" you to fly video (150 jumps). As someone who has recently tackled the challenge of video flying - I can say this: practice, practice, practice. And when you think you know what you're doing - have someone go out with you to film YOU filming someone else. I was fortunate to have a TM who was our most experienced video flyer and he would coach me in the air while I was filming. The clients didn't know/care what was going on, but it has helped me considerably. Good luck - and oh yeah - expect to F*** up A LOT! 'snot nearly as easy as it looks! Hey - I'm going to the EB boogie in a week and a bit and I was wondering if I need to invest in an extra battery for my journey - or will a PAL charger work with my NTSC batteries? Is there even a difference in the batteries - or is it just the power source from the wall to camera that is important? Thanks! Kahurangi e Mahearangi, Kiwi, RB #926, AFF-I, FAA Snr. Yes, jumpoutnow - could you please clarify what's going on with the plane loads. I *know* I've reserved a spot for Bobster and myself - so that's "at least" 2 from the Farm. I didn't realize that we were taking both planes though...news to me, Lee. If that's the case - I call the bench in the back of the Porter!! Anyway - this should be a fun weekend! Can't wait! There is a gent in New Zealand named Greg(?) Stubbs (nick is "Stubbs-y") who, when I was jumping with him, had 30% of his natural vision. Basically - no direct/frontal vision - pretty good, but hazy peripheral vision. He had over 1200 jumps when I jumped with him, and man - that dude could FLY HIS ASS OFF! He was doing advanced four-way, but much to the humour of those jumping with him. He went off colours of jumpsuits for his slot...so if he couldn't find the right colour - he would circle the formation until he found it...then do a sharp 90 and take his slot. Too funny if you were in the base waiting for him!! He was jumping actively when I left New Zealand 4+ years ago, and I *hope* is still jumping. To look at him in a group situation, you wouldn't know he was blind, and to see him fly or land, you couldn't tell, but talking one on one with him - it was obvious. Great guy, excellent skydiver, and inspiration to many! B/w Stubbsy and BV - I'd say that there is little that would stop me from recommending skydiving to ANYONE! It has been a couple years since I jumped in Wanaka, but I can assure anyone interested in jumping while in the area....THIS IS ONE JUMP YOU DON'T WANT TO MISS! If you watched "Lord of the Rings (1&2)" for the scenery (which I did)...than this makes good on ALL the majestic beauty you can't grasp from celluloid. The views on the way up are 360degrees of pure beauty. What isn't there to love about high mountains close-by, a huge, beautiful lake, and the S. Alps in the distance?!!! The group in Wanaka are very nice...I can only say that from a social point of view, as we were up there with our own plane (DCD!) taking advantage of their run-way for a boogie. But, the group from Wanaka made us feel very welcome, enjoyed many jumps with us, and even coordinated a few big ways with both planes. Next to the awesome memories I have of learning how to jump over the beautiful Otago Peninsula....these are the most STUNNING AERIALS in the WORLD!!
