A chance to win some awesome Asylum Designs or Basic Research gear!!
markamodeo replied to markamodeo's topic in Archive
How would you like to maybe win yourself one of two awesome Basic Research packages consisting of: - a Basic Research BASE pilot chute! - a Basic Research BASE logbook! - a Basic Research sticker! And help a fellow BASE jumper raise money for a worthy cause at the same? Sound good? Then please, read on... On July 24th, myself and three team-mates will be competing in the "3 Peaks Challenge". We have to summit the three tallest mountains in Britain within 24 hours (Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scaffell Pike in England, and Snowdon in Wales). Why? Well, because they're there! Also, because the event raises money for Action Medical Research, a charity that funds research into a number of medical areas, from diabetes to artificial joints. Basic Research, who have for a long time been a pillar of the BASE community, offering some of the best equipment, training, and support there is, have contributed these prizes solely to support my fundraising efforts. I am not a Basic Research employee (I wish I was!) There are two packages up for grabs... So, how might you win one of these packages? Well, all you have to do to be entered into the prize draw is to contribute a minimum of £2.50 (approximately $4.00) into my online fundraising account (the funds are paid directly to Action Medical Research, so credit cards are fine.) For every £2.50 you contribute, you'll be entered once. (So £5.00 will buy you two entries, £7.50 will buy you three entries, and so on). The two winners will be notified on August 25th 2004. To contribute, just go to the link below (don't forget to leave your email address in the message box, in case you win!): www.action.org.uk/~BASE539 So please, go ahead, help out a fellow BASE jumper, contribute to a worthy cause, and maybe win a really cool prize... you know you want to! Oh, and also, you can laugh knowing the pain I'll be in trying to drag myself up and down Snowdon (the last mountain) in the middle of the night, with my legs still back at Ben Nevis, and my brain back at Scaffell Pike! Thanks for reading, Mark Amodeo, BASE 539. markamodeo@yahoo.com Hey, visit www.basicresearch.com ... those folks are awesome! -

D-dog, I am an ass!! Sorry! My bag completely! I have no idea why/how I made that mistake... guess I read a few other posts before feeling compelled to respond. I am SO, SO, SORRY! It was a SKINFLICKA post, on the "first parachute jump was BASE" thread. I know it's just his English sense of humour, but we'll see how much he's laughing after Wales kicks England's collective ass in the six-nations rugby on 2/22/03 I've edited my initial post accordingly. Mark.

Skinflicka, I know you were just goofing around about your cat and the shotgun, but that kind of talk is offensive to some folks. The reason being that people really DO commit atrocities upon defenceless animals (and kids, and adults) with sickening regularity. I understand freedom of speech, and all that, but dude, you're one of the most prolific guys posting on the board(s), with some of the funniest opinions. It's a laugh to read your posts, usually... I was just a bit upset by the silly cat comment. (And yes, I know I'm oversensitive!) I also believe, Tom Aiello, that NO-ONE has ANY business forcing animals into BASE jumping (or skydiving). The people who make their animal(s) BASE jump are out of line. If I knew who they were, I WOULD report them to the Anti Cruelty Societies of their respective countries. Or have a word with them myself. I don't mean to start a war, and turn this forum into the BASEboard(TM), but you'll notice that I'm not posting anonymously, because I think this subject is important. Anyway, thanks for reading. Mark.

last question, I promise! brake setting, terminal: my first mojo 280 had only one brake setting, which i found just fine for slider down AND sub-terminal mesh slider up jumps. my current mojo 280 has two brake settings; however, i've used the DBS, again, for both types of jumps... i find that the DBS, sub-terminal, mesh slider up, gives smooth, controllable openings that can be corrected AS THEY ARE HAPPENING. will the DBS be cool at terminal, with the mesh slider? or is the accepted wisdom to use the shallower setting? what affects will each setting have on opening, snivelling, etc? thanks again... mark

Tom Aiello: "If you are smoking it into the basement, you might consider ZP, instead." and: "If you do go with ZP, get a vented (A-V) PC." Being a manly-man, I'll be pulling WAY low! (Not!) But, out of curiosity, if I do sneak off to have a smoke in the basement, what size ZP would be good? And do basement smokers still go with vented pc's? Again, from a "damage to gear" perspective... how big is too big for a zp, at terminal? 36"? 38"? Thanks Tom and Blair! Mark.

Just wondering how people are configuring / packing for Norway's big walls? I hope to get there this year, for the first time. According to CR, I should pack my Mojo 280 with a sail slider up and a 32" zp pc for any freefall over 7 seconds. However, I notice that many people are using mesh sliders, even at terminal. I don't mind hard openings, but I don't want to damage my canopy... Also, what do you do with the nose? Leave it exposed? Wrap the center cell around? Roll it? Tuck it? Also... pc choice: how does BR's 36" F-111 compare to CR's 32" zp? What about the 32" AV? Last thing: any tips for taking a velcro Perigee 2 to terminal? Don't have a pin rig... Thanks, Mark.
