So you don't have a slider for your Mojo?
-
I just got the new slider for my BlackJack. It is noticeably larger than the previous one. The slider was changed to address some potential heading problems on shorter sub-terminal slider up jumps. So, that is one example where changing the dimensions of your slider could have an immediate effect on the way your canopy opens. What seems like a small change can definitely show up in your deployments. At the bridge near Tom A, a two second slider up delay will normally give you plenty of time to correct a 90 left and still fly to a dry landing in the larger landing area. A three second delay with a 90 left will probably only allow you to land dry on the beach, you will probably not make the large landing area. A three second delay with a 90 left and a snivel will pretty much guarantee a swim if you're jumping with a tailwind at exit. This time of year, swapping the slider out with an unknown compatibility could result in a swim and a dangerous situation flirting with hypothermia. Try to think out as many "what if's" as possible before deciding to try it out. You probably won't go in, but you will definitely be increasing the risk level for an otherwise straight-forward jump.

Harness/container: Pins: PerigeePro (by Asylum Designs) Velcro: SoftCock (by Bounceproof rigging) Canopy: BlackJack with ZP composite skin (by Consolidated Rigging.) Pilot chutes: Asylum Designs AV series. They're all opinions. Most jumpers swear by the rig on their backs. Any rig built by one of the major manufacturers is going to work and work well. The differences lie in the specific disciplines you will be participating in. Obviously there are better rigs for wingsuit BASE and some rigs that are better for other sub-disciplines of the sport. Any appropriately loaded and vented BASE-specific canopy is going to serve you well. There are some flight characteristics unique to each canopy that you may like or dislike based on the type of jumping you do most. If you think a canopy is too swoopy for your tight little black death landing areas, there is a jumper across the globe somewhere who thinks it's perfect for jumping massive terminal antennas. edit: typo

Slim was always really fast on his toggles. The problem in the jump on the video is that he missed the toggle going for it the first time. I'm not familiar with the jump on the video, but there are certain times where a riser turn will put you low enough that you will have to land in some shitty terrain. Sometimes on underhung cliffs, a riser 180 can drop you right into the wall below you. Your EP's should take all this into consideration. I think Slim said that if he would have had stiffy toggle he proabbly would have been able to get that turned around in time. I think the real lesson here is: if you're not already jumping stiffy toggles, get them.

Okay, I found the panel. I was expecting it to be near the skirt but I found it further up. It is a Phantom 26. Thanks!

I have a round canopy I was given. The previous owner said it was a lopo 26 (according to the reserve card) but the diaper says Phantom 26. Is the diaper always correct or might the diaper have been switched/re-sewn?

Yes, this is really touching. Hard to watch, like a movie you know doesn't have a happy ending, but is a nice tribute.

Nick, you're not going anywhere, at least not yet. You still have some unfinished projects I've been looking forward to for quite some time. Nope, you're not allowed to leave us and that's final. We're pulling for you and really hoping this one turns out as best as possible. You've already stared this one down in the past so you can do it again. On a side note, if you've ever said you'd give your left nut for something, now might be the time to cash in on it.

Right on, good call getting the longer barrel. Aside from accuracy issues, the rifle is less lethal with the shorter barrel. Looks like a nice rifle.

This IS the most beautiful car ever created. Hands down.

I've been to Abu Ghraib several times. The compound is very secure and the only thing you can do is lob RGP's and mortars into the base or take shots at the guard towers. I haven't read the article but I suspect the injuries were from indirect fire. There is pretty much no way a small force could penetrate the compound. The setup there is very easily defendable. The security force there should have been able to make short work of 60 attackers but there's nothing you can do to check incoming mortar fire unless you have counter-battery radar and morter teams of your own. I've been mortared on several occasions in the vicinity of Abu Ghraib. Bad neighborhood. edit: typos

Seriously?

Nice! I'm glad you guys got to jump. The weather had me a little concerned but it looked okay as we left town on Sunday. Were you there when Ray, KMonster and I did the 3-way? I think that was you. I will PM you my info so we can hook up and do some jumps. Congratulations, and welcome to the family.

Chad quitting base..... hmmmm..... like that's happening anytime soon! Wow, I thought at least a couple people would fall for it. I guess you all know me a little too well. Interestingly, I did get several PM's inquiring about my rig. I know it's super sexy and all, but I'm pretty sure if I get out of BASE I will be keeping the rig. The last two times I quit and sold all my gear, it was really a pain in the ass buying a new rig to get back into the sport. I've learned. C-ya all at the exit point on the summer '05 Faber/PeterC US rampage.

I agree with this setup because you are effectively shortening the distance you need to drop to get to linestretch but you're not shortening the bridle. While there's not much burble at all on a SL jump, I don't like the idea of having a 2 foot bridle. There is an exception I'm aware of where a shorter bridle is desirable, but I'm unsure of the relation to SL type jumps.

Well, it's been a fun journey. I've really enjoyed spending all this time meeting new people and finding out so much about myself. Lately I've been finding it really difficult to risk it all to BASE jump when I think there are many new horizons I still haven't explored. To those that I've jumped with, thank you for all the good memories and awesome experiences. To those I never got to jump with, maybe we'll meet and do some skydiving together. My rig will be for sale soon, as soon as I can take some pictures to put in the add. I'm not looking to get what it's worth, but It's a fine rig and I'm sure another jumper can get a lot of jumps in on it. I'd prefer to give it to a newer, motivated jumper that can't afford a nice new rig. Mine has been very good to me and it's a badass setup. If you're around 5'8" and 150 pounds send me a PM with an offer if you're interested. It's been a hell of a journey and this is the toughest decision I've ever had to make, but it's the right thing. Be safe out there and keep the dream alive. ---Chad

That looks like an old Sega Master System back there. When was this picture taken? I had one of those when I was a little boy.

How is that going to affect the sale of the 'Bridge Day Safety" video?

BASE exit points are not always dry and stable. In BASE jumping you will encounter ice, snow, sand, rocks, funky handrails, chain link fences, police, wind, rain, ...etc. All of these can halp ensure your exit is less than stable. Beginners tend to go head low and can't recover in time to survive. Some sites will kill you if you go head low, even if you're not a beginner.
-
The right gear for the specific jump that matches your experience level is the right gear. BASE jumping doesn't really have too many gear choices yet, but I imagine someday you will be able to get gear that is too advanced for your skillset if you're a beginner. I know that is already true in skydiving.

Oh, you bastard.... edit: you know, after looking at that site, I'm probably going to give them a call.
-
You have a local circus training facility? That's just too funny.

Assistant Division Commander. 1st MarDiv 2nd in command.

Hehe... yeah, I used to bitch about those pads too. They're nice when you're hooking and jabbing though. Here's one more of my team. Bottom right corner is the General, I'm standing to the left of him.

Nice. Here's one of my Platoon commander and me.
