  7. Thanks, Chris. Very clear. Just feel free not to vote. Heh. I think this is a difficult one for most real conservatives. It's a third-rail issue brought in by religious extremists, and is against the "government out of my life" feeling most conservatives have. This is a general problem with politics. Issues exist in multiple dimensions, yet we are supposed to be either "left" or "right". Don't get me started on the two flavors of vanilla the major political parties serve us. Personally, I'm like a majority of Americans: socially liberal (Europeans, no laughing!), and conservative on market issues, although I am feeling a bit let down by the "referees" lately... 8. So a search for this phrase on the Internet, you will see it is usually made by someone losing an argument. I had a friend who used to say "No, you're not thinking correctly!' whenever he got flustered. That when I knew I had him. I understand what you are saying, and I agree with (and will fight to the death for) your right to define morality for yourself any way you want. However, you make a blanket statement that bisexuality is "WRONG". I didn't read that as WRONG for you personally, you seemed to make the statement as a blanket truth about human beings. OK, so that's your opinion, so what? You claim that you don't care what people do in their homes. Well, do you care if bisexuals do the same things in public (and are given the same other basic human and civil rights) as straights, and I guess, gays? Can they hold hands, make out in the park, get married, hold joint checking accounts? Do you really not care about how they act as a matter of principle, and only object on a personal moral basis, for yourself and your own actions? I leave you the opportunity to say that you do not, and if so I will be truly impressed. But still, no BJs for you! I wouldn't want to corrupt your personal sense of morality. Seriously though, just know that those you influence may not have the same elevated sense of the split between personal morality and civil rights, so the voicing of your opinion can lead to oppression and worse. Love to all. Mikki P.S. I am truly sorry if this is getting to deep and serious here. I'm still new here, and just want to have fun with you guys. I just can't help jumping on stuff like this sometimes. Trolls love me. Freedom -- Expression -- Spirit

  10. Odd, your profile says you are from New York, but you must be new to our country. In our democracy, we have a strong tradition of personal freedom and the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of hapiness", which many of my ancestors, relatives and close friends have fought and died to protect. Authoritarian states who dictated morality and "correct" behavior have crumbled under the strength and power of these beliefs. Countries around the world have either followed our lead, or been laid to waste by the power of the premise that people are free. You may want to learn a bit about these important ideas before you start telling other people what they are doing is or isn't WRONG. It's simply none of your business. 11. And no completions. Well, I'd like to know where the number 83 came from (and its std dev), for one. Seems pretty high for a skydive of this degree of difficulty, although the planning, preparation and selection of the participants might drive it up. Or, it shows up the tenth time, and not again for another 999,990. Freedom -- Expression -- Spirit
  12. Damned null hypothesis. OK, as a punishment for forgeting to multiply probabilities, I did a little math for some bigger-ways we may see down the road (please check my calculations): Looking for 1:2 probability Assuming same 1:83 chance of a mistake (any one person) probability of all attempts failing = (1-((82/83)^waysize))^attempts for each waysize, k = 1-((82/83)^waysize) is a constant, and attempts required to have 0.5 probability = log base k (0.5) round up way attempts required ----------------------------------- 300 26 320 34 340 43 360 55 380 70 400 89 500 297 1000 127,370 If I've screwed this up, my punishment wll be to calculate the level of perfection required in each participant in order to reach 50% probability of completing a 1000-way in under 100 attempts. 16. Well thanks for setting the record straight. I will go tell all the bisexuals that I read the Truth on the Internet and tell them to stop being so darn selfish. Or were you talking about apes and dogs again? Freedom -- Expression -- Spirit
  17. You know, I was wondering about this. At what point does breaking a record become statistically unlikely? (95% confidence, say) BTW, the mean stats are interesting, but what would really be worth knowing is the standard deviation, right? Wait a minute. Is your math right? If you are saying that there is a 1:83 probability that a skydiver will make a mistake on a skydive, than would there be a 300:83 probability that someone would make a mistake each 300-way attempt? Or are you saying that there is a 1:83 probability that any given skydive will have a mistake made, in which case, that is their overall odds of success (have to go higher for level of experience and planning, down for degree of difficulty)? I think you are saying the latter, but making it cumulative. There is no sequencing here, in other words it's like a coin toss. You can't say that there is a 24:83 probability there will be a successful attempt, but you can say that is it probable that 0.29 (24/83) jumps will have a mistake made. That can't be right. Are you sure about the 83 number? Sorry, I'm not really sure about any of this all of a sudden. Perhaps I shouldn't have taken quite so much Estacy before posting... Freedom -- Expression -- Spirit
  18. Sweetie, most bisexuals I know see themselves as neither gay nor straight, not both. They see people they are attracted to and people they are not. Maybe semantics, but they don't feel they have "homosexual feelings". Freedom -- Expression -- Spirit

  21. If they can get the PC manufacturers to bundle it. Aren't they still bound by the anti-competitive M$ licensing? As I recall, they pay by the number of PCs shipped, so they basically pay whether they install OS/X, Linux, or (if there was only a God) BeOS, right? [aside]Why the hell do some people work so hard to skin Linux to look like Windows, Mac, Be, NeXtStep or whatever, when there are so many good-looking original ideas out there?[/aside] /me is a little cranky right now because she has spent the last two nights surfing dropzone.com rather than working. 25. What if my alarm clock has Mad Cow? Great article. I wish I had it last year when my co-workers refused to fly because of "terrorism", and I got stuck with all the travel. I tried explaining to them that more people died sitting quietly at their desks on 9/11 than in all the planes combined. I even made up a graph comparing fatality statistics between air and rail travel over the last ten years, even adding in the 9/11 fatalities... (yes, I am one of those kind of annoying geeks ). Only with all that added did it even come close. (New thrill-seeker ride: Amtrak!). The only risk-free state is death Sounds like a good sig for someone... Freedom -- Expression -- Spirit
