Finals Dutch Swooping Tour October 2 & 3 at Bussloo Beach
ParaShoot replied to ParaShoot's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Although we don't have much cash prize money it might be of interest to visit this open competition if you're in the neighborhood. Bussloo is about 1 hour drive from Amsterdam and the event will be ran from the National Skydiving Centre Teuge (a little over 6 km from the lake). JC sets new swoop world record

It was already mentioned in my message. About 50 ft after the entry gates we got behind the trees so hardly any downwind effect. -
JC sets new swoop world record
ParaShoot replied to ParaShoot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I wrote this to some magazines: ============= Sunday September 5, JC Colclasure (member of the Icarus Extreme Team jumping his Icarus VX 111 without RDS) made a new World Record in the Distance event at our 7th edition of the Dutch Swooping Tour at Dutch DZ Stadtlohn just over the border in Germany. Same place where we had our Dutch Nationals. JC made a distance of 132.85 mtr (=435.86 ft) on the course with use of the DST sensor system. At the previous rounds it already looked like we could get a record so we checked the accuracy of the measuring tape (tight, straight, etc.) and this was perfect. Because we also improved our Dutch record a few times during the event (Barry Reverda finally set it to 103.55 mtr) we're sure that not only the high skills but all other factors contributed to this incredible record. The DZ is at 157 mtr (515 ft), surrounded by trees, it was very hot (30C°), pretty humid and there was a moderate (± 2½ m/s) crosswind (45° in the back but behind trees). The next (8th) and final DST event for 2004 will take place at one of the beaches of water resort Bussloo and will be run from Airport Teuge a 7 km drive from the beach. The DST events are open so feel free to come and play. Dutch Swooping Tour ===================== Regarding the wind limits: IPC CP rule 4.14.2: The maximum allowable wind speed at ground level in Canopy Piloting is 7 m/s in any direction on the competition course. As states above the wind was far from this limit. JC didn't have a RDS system on his canopy and he made his typical 270° approach. Although CP is a new official IPC discipline I understood that no records are added to Sporting Code section V yet. -
JC sets new swoop world record
ParaShoot replied to ParaShoot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
OK, some more info. DZ Stadtlohn is a Dutch club about 3 miles over the German border and is situated at 157 mtr (515 ft) above MSL. It was very hot (± 30C° ~ 86F°) and humid. Probably the combination of this resulted in many long swoops. The entry gates were equipped with the DST sensor system so 100% proof of passing the 5 ft. entry. This was the 7th event of the (Open) Dutch Swooping Tour consisting of 8 events with an overall ranking over the best 5 results. The 8th and final event will be held October 2 -3 at the water resort Bussloo with a very nice beach and will be run from DZ Teuge. More to come in the magazines. -
JC sets new swoop world record
ParaShoot replied to ParaShoot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Just now JC Colclasure, team member of Icarus Team Extreme, made an incredible swoop at the Dutch Swooping Tour competition at DZ Stadtlohn, swooping a distance of 132.85 mtr (435.86 ft.). There was only moderate, almost cross-wind. Although there were 10 DST judges only the chief judge has FAI/IPC ratings so I don't know yet if it'll be an official IPC record. Video will be posted soon by Saskia (Dragon2). -
Changed the link in the menu directly to the dropzone page with the wingload calculators. Much easier. ThanX. We didn't work on the infrastructure off this first DST website anymore. The new site is almost ready to be launched.

As mentioned by Saskia I got a 14n from Kodak to play with it in Thailand. In return of some nice shots I could keep it. At the time I got the camera there were 2 versions. One with a buffer of 256 and one with 512 mb. I got the 256 and Norman already warned me about the limited burst rate. The 512 is obviously double. Now they introduced the Pro with a new chip and software. The 14n 512 can partly be upgraded but I think the Pro will have better results for skydiving due to the lower ISO settings. I still can't explain most of the the problems I experienced with the body I had. Many pics were not sharp although I used manual focus with the settings I'm used to use for over 17 years of camera work. I even tried auto focus but with the same results. I also had many jumps with all milky pics. I found a bug in the software which explains some unsharpness. When using the flash on the body in the plane the shutter goes to 125. Once the flash is closed the shutter goes back to the original setting (I'm used to 350 and 420). In the photo info it says it's shot with that shutterspeed but after one release the display says 125 again and the results look like 125. The ugliest is the magenta parts in the pics. Kodak says it can be solved by chosing a lens correction setting in the software. I didn't try that yet. I was absolutely sure that the body I got was having a problem like a loose chip. This can be the reason for most problems. I gave the camera back to Kodak and they checked it and upgraded it to 512 at the same time. They couldn't find anything wrong except for a big crack in the body I just saw when I returned the camera. It probably had been fallen before I got it. On the record jump in Thailand it worked flawlessly and I'm really happy with these results. The record shot is amazing with the resolution of 4500 x 3000. I also have an incredible shot from the tail of the lead plane with such a perfect style that I sold more photos of that one than from the record. Because of the resolution I can easily crop more than half to still keep a high resolution picture. I just got a call from Kodak this morning and they'll make me an offer again to replace the previous camera. I hope they'll give me the new Pro version. Although I'm happy with my D100 (with a 2½ mm remote connection made by Nikon) the Kodak is far superior in Quality and the weight is no problem since I'm used to jump medium formats, 16 and 35 mm, etc. If I compare the shots of the 14n with my medium format scans (Kodak Pro) I prefer the digital kodak 14 MP. Hope this is of any help. Henny Wiggers (Parashoot The Netherlands) Team captain camera team The World Team ** Know what you say but don't say all you know. **

We will use 2 of these cameras in Thailand for the World Team event. Great camera and relative light weight. I even prefer it above a PhotoSonics 1VN. www.theworldteam.com

European / Dutch Swoooping Tour 2004
ParaShoot replied to ParaShoot's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
A fresh new year has begun but many of you don’t think about the new season yet. The last few months I’ve been pretty busy setting up the - open - Dutch Swoooping Tour 2004 as prelude to a European Swoooping Tour. European organizers are invited to contact me to add their events. All information can be found on the website www.euroswooop.com. The on-line registration is also almost ready and will soon be active. After that it’ll be possible to see who has registered per event including profiles. The format for the first event – Teuge March 6 & 7 - will be announced soon. Keep a close watch on the website cause the pages are growing day by day due to the hard work of a devoted team; Iris, Edu, Saskia and myself. Write down the dates and schedule to be there! Hopefully we’ll see many swooopers at the events. Henny Wiggers Manager EST / DST -
In '98 we (the Dutch CF team) went the same way. We talked with Derek from Sunpath about it and the Javelin at that time almost had all the options you need for CF. We just added and changed a few things. We have an attachment for D-rings on the main harness in case we want to use an extra reserve (unfortunately one of the teammembers does). The risercovers are slightly larger but the main issue is the front of the standard covers. They're at 90 degree from the rig. At rotation the canopy snags them easily if you go to the top position. Also not nice for lines. We've them on an angle of 45 degree and never have a hook-up. On my standard Javelins I got it all the time. I can't post a picture now because I'm not at the DZ but if you want I can add one later. Oh, and we also removed the RSL and most rigs have all the rings. All in all we're extremely pleased with the CF Javelins. I made over 1500 jumps on mine and it still looks brand new. The new Odyssey might be more comfortable but I'm afraid that the lines can catch behind the container more easily. If you order just refer Sunpath to the Dutch Team rigs. Go for it!

Great video. I especially loved the part with the hop overs in the red suits.

IPC 2nd World Cup of Canopy Piloting - dates?
ParaShoot replied to conor's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
The normal procedure would be that it will be decided at the next IPC meeting after evaluating the possible bids. 55th IPC Meeting, Lisbon (Portugal), 28 Jan - 01 Feb 2004. Because there will be a WPC for artistics in Brazil (Sep 13 - 20) and one for the other disciplines in Croatia (Sep 16 - 24) it'll be likely that one of these organizations will make a bid for the first World Championships of Canopy Piloting. ** Know what you say but don't say all you know. ** -

Hi, Although I've tried to change my profile a few times one change doesn't come effective. I'm a Birdman Instructor and have put YES behind it but doesn't come up in my profile. What am I doing wrong? Henny (Parashoot) ** Know what you say but don't say all you know. **

Yes, they got ProTracks. Larsen & Brusgaard sponsored the use of ProTracks for our Wingsuit Weekends. First solo jumps ranged from 85 to 65 mph so not to bad to start with. The 2-way averaged about 75 - 80. Congratulations guys and keep flying and flocking this winter. You know where to find the suits.

Cheap Russian Zenitar Fish Eye Lens for Digital SLR cameras
ParaShoot replied to friis's topic in Photography and Video
Fully agree with not choosing for "starter" equipment. The first camera normally decides the rest of your camera career. You'll stay with that brand. If you really had saved your money you would have bought a Nikon and the original Nikon 16mm fisheye or now the 10,5 for the digital cameras. A bit cheaper with inherent quality is a Canon which is also a reasonable option. The only disadvantages of the good cameras is that they're heavy but the pictures speak for themselves.
