  1. My library includes a pretty solid assortment of tomes with whose fundamentals I soundly disagree. I do not fear that reading Mein Kampf will bring me into lock step with its ideology, nor will wading through The Book of Mormon make the tenets of LDS more palatable. My experience is that people who burn books espousing other systems of belief all too often have never read (or understood) the core texts of their own. Then again, it is unfair to expect rational though from a large part of the human race. BSBD, Winsor
  2. it is important to distinguish between being open minded and having holes in your head. The medical system in the U.S. is badly broken. ACA is anything but a solution. The idea that having lawyers fix doctors charging too much is an exercise in gullibility. BSBD, Winsor
  3. Nah, that's like assuming that science (as opposed to The Science (tm)) will put an end to religion. Apparently, fantasy is always seen as preferable to nasty realities in some circles. Thus, the delusions that make up such ideologies as 'progressivism' will always have their adherents. Our only inexhaustible natural resource is stupidity. Anyone who figures out how to harness it is set for life. BSBD, Winsor
  4. After spending time in Socialist Workers' Paradises half a century ago, Communism vied for the lead amongst my least favorite religions. Its modern Woke variant has reinforced my loathing of the mental mediocrity upon which it is dependent. The mental illness that underlies any system of belief exploits a vulnerability in the human mind, a susceptibility to meatware specific viruses if you will. An example of how heretics are treated by the Woke is the case of Dr, Fryer: https://quillette.com/2022/04/15/why-did-harvard-university-go-after-one-of-its-best-black-professors/ The espousal of 'Diversity, Equity and Inclusion' as a mantra is thus a flag, indicating deep, potentially fatal, infection in any organization. 5. As usual, the only argument in favor of Woke ideology is definitive classic fallacy. Like Putin, the Woke portray anyone with whom they disagree as 'fascists.' Thus, referencing Godwin is singularly ironic. BSBD, Winsor
  6. The paperwork she signed acknowledged that failure to adhere to security protocols would result in criminal sanctions to include imprisonment. There are rather a few people who have drawn multi year sentences for less than that to which she freely admitted. Of course, they were little, unimportant people. It is oddly fitting that Trump was made the Grand Poobah of All Things 'Merican, given his track record of heading bankrupt organizations. I'm reminded of Bernie Madoff noting, as he was led away in chains, "what are you mad at me for? The U.S. Government is a Ponzi Scheme!" It is my understanding that the difference between a sociopath and a psychopath is that, while neither cares about other people, the sociopath will tell you so while the psychopath will pretend to care when it suits their purpose. One may be better than another, but I lose track of which one it is. People who actually support(ed) either Hillary or The Donald remind me of farmers who prefer horse or cow manure as fertilizer. When all is said and done, it comes down to quite what kind of shit you can live with. BSBD, Winsor
  7. My feelings are mixed regarding every cretin that we elect to high office. Every time I've said "we couldn't do worse" a candidate is elected that proves me wrong. Biden's track record going back to his schoolboy days is that of plagiarism and cheating. Even if someone agrees with me on something, I have a hard time siding with someone bereft of ethics. Harris makes Biden look like a shining example of wit and critical thinking. I'm reminded of rumors that Khadafy sent a hit squad to protect George H. W. Bush to keep Quayle out of office. Harris might be just that kind of insurance policy, where invoking the 25th Amendment would give us a dud for the ages. It is a testament to the robustness of our Republic that we can survive the mediocrity of the present administration, not to mention the raw dreadfulness of the last. Having said that, there is a limit, which I fear we are approaching. BSBD, Winsor
  8. This would be true if electricity was free. Last time I checked, it isn't.
  9. As usual, you have people who more or less identify a problem (which is more often than not a symptom of something else) and then postulate a set of changes that is anything but a solution. 'Twas ever thus. I refer back to my fundamental thesis that our only inexhaustible natural resource is stupidity. BSBD, Winsor
  10. How do you say 'Truth' in Russian? I seem to recall it's 'Pravda.'
  11. Little Black Sambo was Burmese, not African. You will note that the story involved running away from a tiger, rather than a lion or a leopard. If you encounter a tiger in Africa, you are in a zoo. Tigers are Asian, as was Sambo. The question of 'what is a woman' is reasonably straightforward, and has precious little to do with lifestyle. If someone is of the XY persuasion, no amount of self-identification and/or vivisection will make them an XX type. This is neither good nor bad, it is just reality. If someone wants to live as someone or something that they are not, it's a free country (after a fashion). One should, however, take care not to 'self-identify' as something that carries consequences. Self-identifying as, say, a Police Lieutenant or a Hell's Angel, even at a costume party, may not work out well if the real deal is present. BSBD, Winsor
  12. Jesus, if you need to be compared to the Mango Mussolini to sound coherent, you're in pretty bad shape.
  13. “An argument is a connected series of statements intended to establish a definite proposition... A contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says." Monty Python
  14. Gender is a GRAMMATICAL construct (he/she/it). Even easier.
  15. “It is easier to fool the people, than to convince them they have been fooled. No man's life, liberty, and property are safe while the legislature is in session.” ― Mark Twain
  16. Gee, I don't recall imprisoning much of anyone who disagrees with me. I'd say that pretty much pins the meter for 'cancel culture.' If you can't tell the difference then, well, you can't tell the difference. BSBD, Winsor
  17. I do not want to see Trump martyred, since that conveys sainthood on the most loathsome pols. He can't be humiliated, since he has no shame. If he and his clan can be convicted, not of 'high crimes and misdemeanors' but some garden variety financial felonies, and sent to a 'country club' incarceration facility, that should do the trick. "Trump Tower Gitmo?" I like the sound of that. BSBD, Winsor
  18. Someone once explained the benefit of DST being that one 'got more daylight.' My response was that the responsibility was too great, that if I set my clock incorrectly the sun would never go down. He didn't get it. Going to DST full time reinforces the principle that Congress, in order to fix a stupid policy, must do so by implementing another stupid policy. BSBD, Winsor
  19. Kewl. You stick with Putin and his stated Antifa agendum. I'm with Zelenskyy.
  20. Putin IS cancel culture.
  21. The reason Putin has given for his heroic efforts in Ukraine is to save them from Nazism. Putin is thus the world's most dedicated Antifa. Bravo!
  22. It takes a double-E to spell 'geek."
  23. I contend that Trump never lied. In order to lie one must have a clue as to the difference between truth and falsehood, betwee reality and fantasy, and to actually care about it one way or another. I have seen not one shred of evidence that Trump views any of this as more than an unimportant abstraction. What people call 'lies' are simply the mental ramblings of someone disconnected from reality, blurted out without any kind of filter. This is typical of most religions, and it is certainly pathological. To accuse Trump of lying is to give him way too much credit. His success in life is entirely the result of the principle that 'the scum rises to the top.' BSBD, Winsor
