  1. The audible are resecced in the helmet and secured. But not covered. I highly doubt that you can mess it up with a riser/line twist. Done 150+ jumps on my kiss and no issue so far.
  2. I spend about 1.5 hours in the tunnel for a solid backfly. At the end of the 1.5 hours we started some sit-fly drills. Backfly in the sky with rig is still tricky, sit-fly in sky is... well difficult..
  3. IMO, if you have a good canopy it is good to land it. Chopping has the risk of a very rare, but possible, reserve malfunction
  4. Well, it is simple. You should only downsize when you have your canopy fully dialed in. Then you downsize and start the learning over again. So, do practice flares up high to get feel for it. Jump multiple times in one day and adjust your pattern points. Have someone film your landing and critique it.
  5. I was struggling with my "C" accuracies, since the Flight 1 101 and 102 there has been a drastic improvement. Key for me is: - Use Spot assists before the jump to look at recommended pattern and turn points - Use high entry points (1,200; 700; 500) - Pick an alternate landing area without traffic (if possible) - Don't touch your toggles on final until your flare; adjust left/right with gentle weight shift. If you go long/short adjust turn points for next jump. I recommend getting a fly-sight and recording your exact turn points, as you might not make them as accurate as you think and you can analyze canopy flight and make better adjustments. It will also give you a true glide ratio, which you can feed into spot assist.
  6. looking to order a bevsuit (conviction II)
  7. Selling a 230 Sabre 2 in case you are interested
  8. You fully understand my dilemma. However I did not see the point you made that if I get a rig that hold 150-190; I would want to exchange my current rig that holds 190-230. The point no one can now, is how much better my canopy skills will be in ~6-9 month. They might be good enough for a 170 or not... On the other hand if I order "now" a rig that holds 150-190, I can put my 190 in that rig, the 230 in the current rig and would have a "more forgiving rig" for jumps in not ideal conditions or at DZ's with more challenging emergency landing spots. Lastly, I could then sell the full rig, rather than the 230 canopy (which is not moving) and remains seperate...
  9. Over the last year I've been trying to help a few big guys find rigs. I don't think the market is non-existent. Good to hear if you find a rig that might fit, let me know.
  10. Thanks for the info. How about a 189 Crosssfire 2? I heard they have the softest opening and therefore are preferred for camera flying?
  11. I have done the fight 1 101 and 102 course. In August I will do the 103, 201 and 202 course.
  12. Sorry, have not updated my profile in a few weeks. At about 140+ jumps now (I do about 10 jumps a weekend). The importance for me is to think about what canopy I would be jumping in 6 month from now (at 300 - 400 jumps). With some rigs pushing 20 weeks lead time, I want to plan ahead. I also want a rig that allows for downsizing later on, as the market for used rigs at my size is non-existent.
  13. I (6'6" ~ 255 lbs exit weight) am currently jumping a 190 Sabre 2. My goal is to be doing video early next year, which means I should have a second rig. This brings me to the question for which canopy(-size) I should plan for? Wanting to stay on the sporty side, possibly going into swooping (many hundred jumps later). So what are the canopy options progressing from my current model? (Sabre 2 170, Crossfire 2 189, Zulu 172, Katana 170, ...)
  14. Decided to go ahead and got a new Sabre 2 190. Done 4 jumps with it today and have no end cell closure issues anymore. Openings more on heading, some of it might be packing/wind/position (hard to tell after 4 jumps). Landings are good, even had one downwind landing today. Can tell that I have room to grow with the canopy. Nice benefit is the new 190 packs so much easier than my 230...
  15. Thanks for the input. No matter what by the time I get a new canopy I will be at 100+ jumps... I'll see what fits my rig and go from there.... Though, on windy days I was told smaller wings are less affected by winds/thermics (or as one experienced jumper said "i put on as much lead as I can")
  16. Thanks all for the input. My process for canopy opening is usually to grab rear risers as soon as canopy is open and rear riser steer either out of traffic or towards the airport (landing area). Once I am on the right heading, i then stow the slider, open visor on helmet and release brakes. Generally I follow the packing video from PD for the Sabre 2. From there I have tried packing by either leaving the nose as is and slider pulled out (that triangle) and by pushing nose straight into cocoon (half-way and all the way). I seem to get softer longer snivel) openings when nose is pushed in a ll the way, but end cell closure seems unaffected. I do fold the tail cell towards the middle before "cocooning". To simulate a 1.3 WL (as it would be under a 190), I would need to jump with 50lbs. of weight. That seems a bit much, right?
  17. I am 6'6" at 215lbs (plus gear), with right now 80 jumps (within 7 month). I jump every weekend as weather allows, which is up to 10 jumps (slow packer). Currently I jump a 230 Sabre2. On openings I get end-cell closures (every time) that make the canopy turn ~90 degree, followed usually by a dive. While I am used to it, I understand it could be a problem in larger formation jumps, or when some folks have not tracked away that well. Based on my research the end cell problem on Sabre2's get better with high loading. Therefore should I consider downsizing to a 190? (~1.3 WL) Generally I am happy with my canopy, can't hold front riser turns beyond 270/360 degrees (but this might be a lack of muscle problem..) Downwind/No-wind landings are all fine stand-up landings. Accuracy depends a lot on traffic (as I rather avoid traffic than to bully myself into getting to the marked target). Will certainly check with some more senior folks at my DZ, but the more input the better.
  18. There is a canopy course this month at Skydive Alabama. Super nice drop zone and awesome people. You can contact them for further details.
  19. I think a full face helmet is a must have. If you jump in 40F your face will get too cold in an open face helmet. Also googles fog up, a visor can be opened. I recommend a helmet with a visor that can be opened. I recently went from an analog to a digital alti and truly enjoy more detailed height below 1k fett. However, for what it's woth i only have 40 jumps myself, but beeng umping my own gear since jump 16...

    Four-Armed is Forewarned

I have been looking at the Quattro and Optima II and try to figure out the difference?
  21. I just started my AFF program. However on the first jump the instructors told me that you can not wear a watch? Is this just a student rule? Otherwise I see the advantage in the fact that you can write a custom app for the FENIX 3 and have audible, vibration and visual alarm at predefined altitudes.
  22. Howdy, I always wanted to skydive, but first I couldn't afford it. Then I was too fat (285 lbs) and then I was busy training triathlons and ultra-marathons. Now with that behind I did my first tandem a few weeks back. Loved it and signed up to get my A-License. Last week ground-school and since then waiting for the weather to co-operate so I can start my AFF jumps. Very frustrating... So what do ya'll do when the weather doe not allow jumping? The DZ is 20 min from my house, just hanging out there seems silly, as I usually can do bunch of stuff at home. Is there any ground training you can do?
  23. I think it does more than 1 second. However, ask me again after I start ground school and maybe get another jump or two in with it. The tactix has a jumpmaster mode: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-the-trail/wrist-worn/tactix-/prod139389.html Some links I found on the fenix: http://forums.watchuseek.com/f296/garmin-fenix-ongoing-review-several-parts-746366-31.html https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?35922-Fenix-Altimeter
  24. I did my first (tandem) jump this past Friday and recorded the experience with my Fenix3: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/923095917 Some things to consider: Not sure if you can set-up a profile to measure altitude over ground, mine was showing over sea level (which would be an issue) The refresh rate seemed fine, but I wonder how much more accuracy you need?
