  1. So.. I was bored and I'm sure you ALL know how much the color pink has played a role in my life... I mean, that's how I'm known by right? So, I figured I'd exercise the truth that Rook doesn't always make the decisions 'round here... take a look and let me know what you think! --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**
  2. I just called the DZ and left a message for Carl & John. Skydive Chicago is willing to help in anyway we can. I'm a phone call away (they've got my number). And we'd also like to help the staff & friends that lost equipement as well. I know how to get a hold of the DZ, but where do I send other monitary donations from SDC for the others?? ** It always brings a smile to my face during sad times in our lives when our family of skydiving unites as such a positive force. Our love is with the Elisnore Family. ** Missy Nelson --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**
  3. may i.... spread the love... unfortunatlely skydiving is a sport where we don't make much money, in any aspect; we all have to eat and sometimes little stings like having our own footage sold, happens. this should be a sport of giving and taking, and maybe the taking this time around isn't a free video. but sharing what we do and having other people see it is worth forfeiting getting a free video, even after all the expenses, time and energy we put in to be a nationals. but that's just what happens. i'm sure if we introduce a better way, National hosts will be more than willing to listen. ~spread the love my friends... remember why we skydive ~ missy --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**
  4. The lovely gals from FL that are from Air Blades covered the whole event... doing interviews, capturing landings and getting the rounds of comp. collected and they just called me yesterday to say that the video is coming along nicely. Because they have soo much footage to go through and to work with, I don't expect them to be done before spring. --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**
  5. I'll be organizing a 4-Way VRW camp next summer in hopes to evolve VRW flying. This is just the first step in writing the rules for 4-Way VRW competition. The purpose is to see what formations work, how the video should be shot, how long of working time, etc. This event has a progressive idea and will be of progressive flying and I'm looking for those serious (and of intermediate/advanced/expert talent) enough to attend a camp like this. It's a very similar style (for those of you familiar with) Project Horizon. It's just smaller groups working towards a little different goal. It will be held July 17-18, 2004 at Skydive Chicago. There will be a registration fee that will include, jumps, extra altitude, food, party, etc. and there may be limited slots available. If interested in attending and/or would like to get on the e-mailing list, please e-mail me at Missy@SkydiveChicago.com. Thank you and fly safe my friends! --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**

    fall rate

the first thing that comes to mind (after reading your profile)... there's so many variables that could contribute to these factors such as: 1. are the others you jump with skilled to fly many fall rates? 2. are you sure you're not overlooking any obvious points of critiquing your body position? it's hard to give written advice especially without having jumped with you, but i would advise to get a coach jump (since you're soo close to SDC) and receive a "professional" critique as to what to work on. then go from there. i know it's not specifics to work in the air, but hope this helps! cheers- missy --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**

  19. The Sugar Gliderz (Jen Key, Amy Chmelecki and Missy Nelson) have set out to accomplish the first All-Female VRW World Record on November 26-30, 2003 at Skydive Arizona! We’re working with USPA and the FAI to recognize this feat, as it’s own official category. To prepare for this event, the Sugar Gliderz will be organizing VRW camps on April 12-13 at Skydive Arizona and on August 6-8 (Summer Fest) at Skydive Chicago. For those interested in attending, you need to have a current FAI card (to sign up call, 703-527-0226) and a current country’s membership (i.e., Americans = USPA Membership). Jason Peters and Greg Gasson will be the official camera flyers and will be taking digital photos as well as shooting on 35mm film. For further information or to sign up, please contact the Sugar Gliderz at, SugarGliderzFreefly@Hotmail.com. --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**

  21. (today's my day posting i guess!!) when should one start freeflying... well first know that this is only my opinion.. so please take it for what it's worth... after a student program, it is wise to learn basic belly flying skills such as turns, tracking and jumping with others. learning to fly on your belly and gaining awareness is very important in wanting to expand your skydiving career. why? every person must go to their belly to pull (and you've got to be stable!)!! secondly, make sure you have three-dimensional freefly friendly equipment. this is very important because flying vertically drastically increases your fall rate (and you wouln't want a pre-mature opening or risers coming off onto your shoulders in freefall!). make sure you have at least one visual and one audible altimeter (it's easy to loose track of altitude when you're learning and there's generally only 45 seconds of freefall time as compared to 60 seconds of belly flying). also a hard shell helmet is important because things happen a lot faster and they're not really a bad idea..! next, get coaching or advice from well respected freefliers from your drop zone or travel to a dz that has a special event for beginning freefliers (check out the calendar of events on this site). learning this way will help advance you faster than having to do several solo jumps, 'just trying to figure it out.' never feel intimidated to approach 'famous' or 'well-respected' freefliers.. i know they're more impressed with those wanting to learn and ask questions than those that think they're cool just 'thinking' they're doing it! (just my opinion ) if i can be any further assistance please let me know (and i hope i helped) ~fly safe my friends~ missy --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**
  22. Well, it's only due time when you'll be vortexed to reply.... First, I do not know everything about skydiving. Second, the following is only my opinion so please take it in stride. I know for myself that the jump numbers do not matter, however, I truly love to fly. I do what I can to be in the air as much as possible and that may mean getting comfortable with my currency. But I will ALWAYS check my gear before the first jump of the day, before I get on the plane and before I exit as well as I mentally review certain procedures in my head such as exit separation and malfunctions. Not everyone sees me do my handle checks or sees me prepare for my jumps because their eyes aren't always on me. I'm not implying that others with many jump numbers do the same, but the danger comes when we start assuming and not communicating problems to the source. If you see jumpers carelessly running to a plane without a rig... shouldn't we say something? No currency could also be dangerous, especially with those with lower jump numbers. Maybe a review of a canopy flight plan or reviewing malfunctions isn't such a bad idea. And it's not a bad idea for those who are current to just slow down for a moment. But when you 'live' the sport, i have to admit it is different (but being an example is being more conscience about it...) Let's not get too caught up in the problem, let's make a stand together to make solutions. **What Crazy Thomas says, we shouldn't take lightly... we should promote our sport as a safe one. Realize it or not, when students see YOU, they watch what YOU do... mine as well be a good example and show them that you care, lots of jump numbers or not! It's those that don't care that give this sport a 'bad' name (especially for those who choose to do this for a living). But, we're all have our own perogitives... thanks for reading... and i don't know if this makes any difference...?? take care & fly safe! missy --- Missy Nelson **Learning Never Stops**
