  1. a good jump pilot will keep a extra pair up front. Just remember: if you use them you MUST replace them.
  2. Melissa, sorry we had to cancel your appointment. I was offered to chance of a life time to go fly in The Last Frontier. Unfortunatly its on some what short notice. i need to be in Anchorage on the 28th. The last week has been a blur, and the next few will only go faster. Texas Skydiving Center is a small one Cessna DZ. Ive been there as both a pilot and a jumper. if they say they can accomade your group go for it. Be aware it will probably be one tandem at a time. It might take all day. As a jumper you should definitly go try a small DZ like salado or lexington sometime. Good luck with AFF and blue skies. Ben
  3. 5. I was offered a job today 4. Its in Alaska 3. Its not flying jumpers anymore (sorry guys i love ya, but sometimes you all drive me crazy) 2. It pays almost twice what i make now. 1. Im probably going to take it.
  4. Is there a registration fee? What if im only there thursday? Wil they wave it because im a hard working jump pilot? Ben.
  5. If i show up on thursday who is gonna jump with me? Ive got to work fri, sat and sun.
  6. 40 hours is the minimum. Expect it to be more. Much more if you don’t study hard and fly at least 3 times a week.
  7. Don't know but probably How big? I have a 18X13 three room and a queen size air mattress. You thinking of going out somewhere so you can get some sleep?? Yes, I’ll be as far from the center of activity as I can get and still be on the property. I’ll be in bed by 1100. Disturb my rest at your own peril.http://www.kevinholman.com/pics/guns/shooting/protac042003/COBB00-R1-25-emu.jpg
  8. Is there going to be a big party this weekend? Can i borrow a tent from someone?

    104!

25 loads in our twin otter. I logged 12.2 hrs. We also put up 6 or 7 AFF students and a fair amount of fun jumpers. Ben
  11. A flight instructor told me this a long time ago. I'm finding its true in more than just flying. "Good Judgement comes from Experience. Experience comes from Bad Judgement." Just a thought for today. Ben
  12. Rascal 235 baby! Representing the '80s When they let me out of the pilot seat.
  13. Douva, Good luck out there. Ive havent known you very long, but i think you're alright. im sorry to see you go. If you ever get up the coast to Skydive Santa Barbara, tell them you know me. They might even remember me... Ben
  14. Sorry to hear the job didnt turn out as you wanted. But look on the bright side, you still get to jump with all your buds here in TX. Ben.
  15. I miss Gonzo! I used to fly that plane for WPS. I've got 300+ hours in it. For those that are still confused it is a Soloy conversion 207. It has an Allison/Rolls Royce 250 engine. 385 hp max continious/420 takeoff. Excellent short field performance, decent is like any other turbine, FAST! and its jungle gym out side with all kinds of rails and steps. In Spokane, with a field elevation of 2500 ft, we would climb to 14000 msl/11.500 AGL. When I flew it in Texas on contract, the field was about 500 ft and we climbed to 13000 MSLish as I recall. I would recommend 12000 agl as a good compromise between climb performance/economics and attracting jumpers. But it’s been more than 2 years since I flew that plane so my memory may be fuzzy. Take good care of gonzo, I hope to come jump from it someday now that I’m a jumper too. Ben
  16. Heh...now that's funny! I love that otter. Comfy and climbs really well. I just hope you have a pilot flying it that can spot. *recalling when me and the Raeford DZO's were doing RW and landed off by a mile east on one jump, and a mile west the next.* Yea, I can spot. Ask anybody. Ben
  17. About half the riggers i know have told a story like that.
  18. Mm, yeah, my favorite: lifesaving equipment made by the lowest bidder. The most expensive isnt always the best.
  19. Ive always wondered how many misfires cypres had when they first came out. Im pretty sure when my cypress expires in a few years i'll be buying a vigil to replace it. the vigil seems like it will be a better product than cypres when they work out all the bugs.
  20. I sometimes to pack to make money on the side, being a cessna pilot doesnt pay. When i was packing a lot i could do an average sport rig in 12-15 minutes. Slick new Z-P took a little longer. most people who pack for a living are faster. Ben.
  21. Have you also noticed the reinforced fuselage on the exterior of most (all?) Otters for this specific reason? _Am The reinforcement on the fusalage is for when ice forms on the prop then is flung off.
  22. Interesting... Know the price for one of those? And are they FAA approved to go in a 182? Also very interested in info regarding the Walter M601 E-11 engine.. Extremely cheap, very good performance and a long TBO... It would take a long nose to install it in a skylane, but i've heard rumors that it has been done.. Anyone? Helge The Soloy conversion is more than just an engine swap. it involves major airframe modifcation. So, no you could not put one on a 182. A Contintal IO-520 or 550 engine upgrade would be a much better choice. most of my jumps are out of a Cessna 185. 20 min to altitude. Dont be an airplane snob. Skydiver used to be happy to jump out of a 172 at 8000 ft. Ben.
