Honestly when I first read it I figured you pulled and everything went fine just the moment between pull, the drogue collapse and the extraction of the bag to deployment and being seated, which only takes a couple of seconds, felt much longer to you (3 sharp pulls and throwing your arms up in frustration could, in my opinion, be done in the same amount of time if over amped/excited) giving you the feeling that something was wrong when there wasn't (not a dig or anything just a guess) 0.02c

I haven't done the states on a J1 (I think it has a 20hr/week work limit off the top off my head; though does a skydivers work only entail the jump process of from entry to the property?) but you should be fine on a J1 as long as you follow the rules. There are also plenty o Dzs that are illegal friendly, and plenty that have been burned and no longer use illegal employees.

J1 if you are a full time student or graduated in the last 12 months. H1B1 and the like ( H2B2 is the other of the pair off the top of my head, skilled worker visas) don't apply for skydiving (I tried that route with a job offer and the company helping). In short there is no such thing as a work visa for a skydiver, apply for the green card lottery and hope? Or maybe try a good immigration lawyer Thats what I found anyway (as a reference I have Australian citizenship and have worked in Korea on an E2, Canada on WHO visas and am now in the UK on a T5/youth mobility visa). my 0.02

Sony ActionCam AS200V and 4K ActionCam FDR-X1000V announced
OzzieDave replied to darklow's topic in Photography and Video
Posted a bit on here about the as100 (mounting and use). Haven't jumped as much as I would likely but possibly close to 200 jumps on the camera and I have only had one camera bust (which was my fault/forgot the remote and no one else on the plane new how to tell if it was recording or not, turns out it wasn't) and lost 1 video to a corrupted card and just generally had issues with sandisk cards with the camera. User isues/card issues aside the camera itself has proven to be very reliable with decent battery life (though buy a second battery) and damn good quality compared against cx series cameras and GoPros -
Possibly not super useful as a reply to your question specifically but in general terms could help someone from the UK. I just insured all my gear for up to £20,000 as tools as I am a full time skydiver (underwritten by Beazley) for £250/year. in additon to my rigs/jump suits/wing suits etc it also covers my laptop and camera gear. £100 deductible and they do old for new but only at 80%. Covered when it is at work, in my car while in tranist (including if I stop and go shopping) and while in a 'secure loction' (locked door) at home. They wont cover it while in use but my biggest concern was having my gear bag taken from a car or my flat because 'it's a big bag on wheels full of shit, must have something I can pawn for meth

Anyone Know of Skydiving in South Korea?

Gday, Yeah when the steadyshot is off (~170 degree field of view)you can see the visor on the right hand side. Screen shot is attached. When the steadyshot is on (~120 degrees FOV from memory?) the visor is not visible. Screen shot is attached. Where the camera sits right now it isn't in my peripheral when looking straight ahead though if I look for it I can see the very front of the casing. The hole for the camera case was drilled inline with the two holes drilled for the G3 plate. You could mount the camera further forward, probably only by 2cm, and you wouldn't have the visor in view when steadyshot is off but then the casing would be in your peripheral I would imagine. Cheers Dave

Below are some pictures I made of a bracket for the AS100 and G3, which should work for the Az1. Cost about $15. Piece of angle aluminium, 2 screws for the G3 side plate (I cant remember the size but they were metric 10mm long and I think M7s?) and a 1/4* 20 3/8th screw for the hardcase. I cut the aluminium to roughly match the G3 side plate and cleaned it up on a bench grinder. Used the G3 side plate as a guide for the holes and just lined everything up square with the top of the visor. Works pretty well and took less than 20 minutes. It is upside down so it can be on the left side (away from the pull) which does create a small cavity that lines could get in I guess, next project is a cutaway. I also made a bracket for a flat top set up if you want go that route see here http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4661905;search_string=sony%20a65;#4661905 Cheers Dave

Florida skydiving and AFF to PFF back in Canada.
OzzieDave replied to gingergal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Something you might want to look into/discuss with your local Canadian DZ is what they will do with you one you come back. There is a whole range of attitudes in Canada for people with USPA ratings or AFF levels so the easiest way to sort it out would be to talk to the DZ in Canada you jump at, discuss your plans, and see what they have to say. Good luck. USPA AFF-I, CSPA Pff-I -

Using the AS100 not the AZ1VR but in the AS100 manual it says you need SDXC (not HC) cards. I don't know if sandisk sent me a few bad cards or what but their cards corrupted after only a handful of uses (they did warranty them) but while I waited I picked up the Lexar professional cards (black and blue 633X 64Gb SDXC variety) and only format in camera and have had no issues. I only record on the Pro mode (xvac s) for work.
