"Forgive me, but why on earth (or "above" earth) would you put so many jumps on a canopy that only opened nicely for you once?????" Didnt really have much choice. Second-hand market isnt big where I live (Europe). My first new rig, limited experience and knowledge of canopy types. A few years ago I didnt really know what kind of alternatives I had, given limited number of dealers I knew. When I was ready for a Stiletto and able to sell the Sabre I made the transition, at that time I really hated the Sabre and was virtually scared before each opening. The guy who bought it actually said it opened better than his previous canopy(!) mc Edited by marcin on 5/14/01 09:53 AM.

Put about 200 jumps on Sabre 150, bought brand new. Always opened very hard, with one(!)single exception, when it opened very sweet. Once almost killed me and my neck hurt for weeks (packed by a pro). Rolling the tail, stuffing the outer cells into the center cell, puling the slider in front of the nose, pushing the nose into the pack job seemed to help nothing. My stiletto opened OK,however it also smacked me once, so I almost blacked out. Tight rubber bands (the traditional type) definitely help). It was also difficult to pack, remaining slippery for all the time. It flew great though and I really liked flying it. mc
  3. Two rides on PD143, loaded 1.4. One cutting away flying canopy (steering line problems), other very fast spinning mal (no RSL). Opened nice, quite firm, steering and landing was great. Sank noticeably faster than Sabre 150 main I first cut away(I guess because of F-111 material most reserves are made of) mc
  4. Sounds good. How would a HW compare to Stiletto of similar size (opening, glide etc.). Is it just a cheaper clone with smaller pack volume (not a bad qualities)? mc
  5. Thanks for the info! I haven't heard of the new design. Do they sell it in USA? Is HW prone to line twists? mc
  6. Hi I'am wondering if any of you have had any experience with heavier loaded HeatWaves. I'am 187 pounds (85 kg)w/o gear and was thinking of a 120. I've jumped Sti135 till now. Do you think I'd be satisfied with the performance and openings? I disliked a bit the off heading openings and long but uneven (nothing happens for a while but then the slider comes down fast) openings of Sti, but flying characteristics were great. Thanks for your input! mc

    TurboZX ??

Hi Max. weight taken from paragear.com, under Main canopies_Para-Flite and _PD: Turbo ZX 145 -160lbs. Turbo ZX 165 -180lbs. Sabre 150 -165 lbs I'd say Sabre is a better gliding, "modern" canopy, TZX pack volume according to paragear's data is larger, but my impression was it actually packs quite small, Sabre may be a hard opening one sometimes. TZX should be much cheaper. I think you'd like Sabre's flight more. M.

    TurboZX ??

I've got only few jumps on TZX 165 and a few hundreds on Sabre 150. Sabre killed me on openings, TZX opened firm but not explosive. I've heard from jumpers that TZX generally opens slow, sometimes even excessively. Sabre turned zippier, TZX entered the turn slower, but I guess sunk a bit more than Sabre and after 2-3 spirals generated relatively big G -forces. Sabre definitely glided better and was more responsive to toggle input on landing. M.
