I love the proposed design that has been selected. I love the fact that it will feature a structure higher than the original towers....in my mind building something lower would have been a victory for OBL. The symbolism of the higher tower and 1776 (feet) is very appropriate. Can't destroy the spirit of free people. Offering to send you 5 times what you're asking is definitely a scam. Don't have anything else to do with these people. Find another buyer. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I don't think it's money laundering....if they are offering a check the money is in the bank and already laundered Sounds like they are possibly making sure that you receive enough cash to cover shipping and the rig....to avoid any snags of that sort. Depending on how you ship and whether you insure, the costs of shipping can vary widely. I don't think it's fishy...it seems like they are trusting you to make good on delivery and want to make sure it happens. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Quicktime Pro. Lots of options as far as codecs, webstreaming, etc, etc. For $29, it's a pretty handy tool to have. You can make the quality as good or minimal as you like by choosing different codecs, frame rates, key frame rates, size, etc. You can also set the bit rate. Quite a few of the really good quality videos on headdown.net are in Quicktime format. Base Forever and Castles in the Sky being favourites of mine. I actually exported the two foregoing videos as DV files (using Quicktime) and burned them to DVD so that I could watch them on my TV. The quality is very good considering they started as fairly small files. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

With one jump your instructors might now want you jumping with a camera at all.......but what I used to do to carry a still camera for hand held shots is tie a pull-up cord to the strap, tie the pull-up cord to my chest strap and drop the camera inside my jumpsuit. After opening I would unzip my jumpsuit and pull the camera out, take some shots and put it back into my jumpsuit for landing. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I think you should pump through a few rolls of low ASA fine grained slide film...slight underexposure to saturate the colours...and just sit in awe at how sharp and beautiful everything looks!!!! I've never been able to afford a medium format camera but have always loved the quality of Norman Kent's medium format work...done on a Hasselblad, I believe. I think he shoots Fuji film of some description. Enjoy that machine and take some shots to knock our socks off!!! I bought a Cruiselite Beta (175 sq. ft.) in about 1985....it was a great canopy. Sink it swoop it crew it. I loved that thing. I believe Paraflite also made a Cruiselite XL of around 270 sq. ft. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

As noted just above, these were called "ghostplanes". We tried a couple of them without success way back when. One resulted in my buddy's first reserve ride when the ghost canopy entangled with his pilot chute and started collapsing his main. We used separable D-rings to attach a tertiary parachute to the main lift webs when doing intentional cutaways. We'd just chop and then dump our reserves. The tersh was just there for backup. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

I have officially declared today, Friday, February 21, 2003, "Officially Sick of Winter Day". We've had snow since around October 10th and it's -31 C (-24 F) here (Canadian Prairies) right now. Enough already!! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

A shot of the late Constable Greg Makinson, known to his skydiving friends as "The Mighty Sparrow". He passed away in 1991 of leukemia. I've seen on the rumor sites that the speed issue should be addressed with an update....none too soon for a lot of people unfortuinately. I find it a bit slower but not irritatingly so. I have burned several DVDs using "chapters". One had a problem with the chapter starting a few secinds before the end of the preseding clip. I can only attribute this to the fact that I added the title at the very end ...after I had set all the chapter markers... and that the addition of the title at the end of things wasn't compensated for. Only family videos but I think this is something to be careful of. I have found that the "time remaining" displayed is really out to lunch. Just leave it and it should be fine. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Thank-you for that, I've been laughing my ass off all the way through it...we use an ISP called Sasktel that that letter could have been written to. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Ok, here's the write-up on Kittinger's jump that appears in Cheryl Stearns' website. It states 614 mph or about 9/10 the speed of sound. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

??|?d this software on Versiontracker the other day and it looks like it might be able to get the DVD info into a format that you can then get into FCP3. Perhaps with this and Quicktime Pro you can convert it to something that FCP will work with if FCP won't import directly. (I have no idea what FCP can use) I haven't had time to try it out. Looks from the read me file and comments that it will take a _long_ time to do it's job. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

Just curious to see how many people who quit smoking in January are still hanging in there... I hope everybody but if not, don't give up and try again. It took me about 15 years to quit and dozens of tries so never give up! If you are hanging in there I hope you are finding it easier with the toughest weeks behind you. Keep it up!! -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey

The lens uses an aspherically (non-spherical) shaped element or elements to correct for spherical aberrations which degrade the image. Very common in lens design. Definitely not. She is one of the most awesome skydivers in the world. Cats are tough animals. A neighbour's cat got run over by a car a few years ago and he was terribly hurt..lost an eye, smashed legs, etc, etc. and he was back out hunting in no time at all. I think if he's made it this far he'll be good to go before you know it. Keep us posted. -- Murray "No tyranny is so irksome as petty tyranny: the officious demands of policemen, government clerks, and electromechanical gadgets." - Edward Abbey
