1. I agree with your comments regarding diversity of experience being asset, however I would also think that someone who has been around the sport for 5000+ jumps would have knowledge of different aspects of the sport even if they don't have experience in that specific discipline. For example, if someone has never done a wingsuit jump because it doesn't appeal to them, I think they could have enough of an understanding of that aspect of the sport (based on their years of experience an thousands of jumps) to be an effective president. Although I was replying to your comment, it was in the context of the thread and stayhigh's comment about who has the most jumps. I don't know anything about either Jay or Sherry's experience level, however based on comments regarding the number of jumps Sherry has I don't think her number of jumps would indicate that she doesn't have the experience required to be USPA President (admittedly I know nothing about the different disciplines that they participate in). Stayhigh's comments regarding who has the most jumps implied that he thinks that # of jumps is the sole factor in determining who would be the better USPA President, and I disagree with that opinion (and based on previous comments it appears you do as well).
2. After people get to a certain point does it really matter who has more jumps? I get that a 100 jump wonder probably isn't the best choice, but when both people are over 5k jumps I think that either of them would have sufficient knowledge of the sport to be USPA president.
3. If the chair of the safety and training committee believes that what he did was cause for his removal as chair, who are we to argue with him? If he did nothing wrong as some people are suggesting he would have no reason to tender his resignation.
4. Has your weight loss leveled off recently or are continuing to lose weight rapidly? When talking to your doctor that is something that you should let him know. If you are continuing to lose weight (assuming your doctor finds nothing medically wrong with you), you are probably not consuming enough calories to fuel your high level of activity. I experienced a similar weight loss when I was training for a marathon. I went from 210 to 168 in about 4 1/2 months. I had to start eating what seemed like a ridiculous amount of food in order to maintain my weight. On top of seeing your doctor it might also be a good idea to talk to a nutritionist. They can help you with your diet and give you a plan of what you should be eating. If you are increasing your food intake it is even more important to eat healthy (for example, you may be increasing your cholesterol levels without realizing it).
5. lmao... "your Honor I was 'holding' a license!" I would never end up in front of a judge, I never do anything wrong
6. To answer your questions in order: 1. Talk to the person signing off on the jump to determine how they want to handle declaring your target. I assume they would want to you to let them know what your intended target is prior to jumping. 2. It states in the SIM that it is from "center target". Center target would be a point on the ground. For example, on the 25 foot circle you referenced, it would be the center of the circle. If you are using a disc it would be the center of the disc. 3. Who can sign off on your jumps can be found in SIM section 3.1.C: Landing within 2m of a target would be a skill requirement so you would need one of the individuals listed in part 3 to sign off. Good luck on earning the C license!
7. I understand the words issued and acceptable to the administrator, do you understand the word "holds"? You can't choose to focus on the words that helps your argument and ignore the words that don't support your position. As I've said before, the word hold implies that the license is valid (p.s. I'm still waiting for a response on why the license has to be in my name to satisfy the requirements). As far as the license being accepted in the past, maybe the FSDO didn't know that the license is only valid if you have a current USPA membership. I bet if when asked for your license you replied "here is my license, but it isn't valid" you would receive a different response. Just because something has been accepted doesn't mean that it is legal. When one of my friends was younger he used to use his brother's ID to buy beer, just because the clerk at the liquor store accepted it doesn't mean that what he was doing was legally acceptable. A lot of times you can get away with things for quite a while even if it isn't legal. When you end up getting caught the excuse "they've accepted it in the past" usually doesn't carry much weight.
8. With insurance you should be 100% honest on your application. If you say you are taking a hiatus and that isn't true you can end up not being insured. Insurance is not very useful if it doesn't pay out to your beneficiaries if something should happen to you. You should also read the policy in detail. Some policies exclude high risk activities, so if skydiving is excluded in your policy you could end up with no insurance if that is how you end up dieing. If you have any questions about your coverage you should discuss it with an insurance agent. It is much better to pay more for insurance that will protect your family as opposed to saving money on insurance and having your family end up with nothing.
9. I wouldn't be presenting a false document, it is a real license. I also wouldn't lie to them, I would tell them that this isn't my license. Could you please show me where in the FAR it says the license must be in my name? Or maybe you are saying that the phrase "holds a license" implies that the license must be your license? Kind of in the same way that I am saying that it also implies that the license must be valid?
10. If we want to go by literal meanings in the FAR, if I borrowed some else's D license would I meet the license requirement under the FAR? After all, it just states that I have to hold a license (and if it is in my hand I am "holding" it), it doesn't say it has to have my name printed on the front of the license.
11. Psych evals??? None of us would be allowed anywhere near a plane, regardless of whether there was someone else strapped to us or not
12. I think that we are going to end up disagreeing on this. I am not arguing that the license was issued by the USPA, but in my opinion the underlying assumption in the phrase "hold a license" is that the license must be valid. If you do not need to have a valid license, would someone who has had their license suspended be able to become a TI? After all, they do have a license, it has just been suspended (in the same way that someone who is not a USPA member holds a license, it is just not valid).
13. I would interpret this differently (and this is just my opinion). 105.45 states that you have to "hold" the license, not that you have earned the license at some point in the past. If your license is not valid I would think that you do not "hold" the license. Regarding the master license, my understanding is that the D license is the equivalent of the master license. Although the FAA has not updated the language in 105.45 the D license is accepted as a master license for these purposes.
14. The USPA appears to disagree with you, from the USPA website: B. General conditions for licenses 1. USPA licenses are valid only while the holder is a current regular USPA member; there is no other renewal requirement. Link - http://www.uspa.org/SIM/Read/Section3/tabid/165/Default.aspx
15. I think you might have missed section 1.iii: Holds a master parachute license issued by an organization recognized by the FAA I'm not sure how you could have a master parachute license recognized by the FAA without being a USPA member (unless if they will recognize licenses from another country - anyone know if the FAA will recognize international organizations?).
16. Hell freezes over every year, or at least the town of Hell in Michigan does. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hell,_Michigan
17. Hello everyone, I'm new to this whole skydiving thing (haven't jumped yet but planning on doing a first jump course in the next few weeks). I can't wait to start jumping and look forward to getting to know all of you on the forums!
18. Ouch!!! Hopefully that heals soon and you can get back in the skies
19. Hi Lucky, You should borrow a torque wrench and put that $16.99 towards a jump ticket. A couple of options to borrow one: 1. Advance Auto has a borrow a tool program. They don't have a list of tools that you can borrow on their website but I'm pretty sure they would have a torque wrench you could borrow. Give them a call and ask. 2. Ask around your DZ. If anyone there works on their own vehicle they would probably have a torque wrench they could lend you. Good luck installing the trailer hitch!
