  6. I would be prouder not have any BASE related broken bones, like Yuri, but here's my short list: Shattered femur into six pieces - nearly a compound fracture - nearly fatal - BASE jump and significantly eaten by fire ants afterwards. Consumed right arm. Broken tailbone - BASE jumping, flight into tree trunk at high rate of speed, fell face first afterwards into a pile of large rocks Broken nose - fighting, not sure which fight Broken ball off inner ankle -- jumping tall fence for BASE jumping Sliced arm -- razor wire on fence Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

If I ever build a canopy, I'm going to make sure the label will be the entire linch pin for the canopy. That way, if any farger tries to mess with it, the canopy will disintegrate. Maybe it should be booby trapped too! Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
  8. I have that photo at home. Someone once asked Hoover how long it took the pilot chute to pull the canopy out... His response was "throw the pilot chute and wait 6 to 8 weeks for delivery!" Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    Number 100 . . .

The remaining part of the analysis is to find the total number of active jumpers instead of total throughout history. That would lower the number of jumpers and increase the fatality rate. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    Number 100 . . .

I estimate the numbers are doubling every 8.3 years. I estimate a constant annual fatality rate to be 1/10 relative to the BASE numbers. I estimate the true fatality risk to be 1/15 to 1/30 relative to the total number of BASE jumpers. Further data is needed to do a full statistical analysis. 14. That 2 Live Crew song "me so horny" keeps playing in my head. uh, horny for a jump that is... Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
  15. Some old school jumpers used to jump with the pilot chute in either their right or left hand, depending on the exit points. No going stowed is the preferred option. Moe Villetto used to have a velcro tab on each side of his velcro rig for this scenario. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    Number 100 . . .

This is interesting. Imagine that after all these years that jump fatality rates are as bad as they were back in 1988. Same thing happened in skydiving when that sport evolved. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    BASE Paradise?

So in this case, when we say "watch out for the pigs," it's literal, and does not refer to the police! Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    pc wear and tear

Is the shock loading on a pilot chute the same as a parachute? Does the wear on a pilot chute equate to the wear on a deploying parachute. I have no idea. Numbers and rigger specs don't seem to be that relevant if a simple test such a breathing through ZP indicates a problem. If it has the consistency of fishnet, maybe the pilot chute had a bad batch of ZP, or something else is going on. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
  21. Gaped, that cliff jump is same picture on Bill Legg's wall. I wish I had jumped that site but I was iced out. Here's a photo that Yuri took of me while we were jumping an antenna. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

    Italian terminal wall

Dude, kindly ask for help from the Italian locals. In addition, not relying on the hard earned accumulated knowledge of the locals who know the wind conditions and particulars of this site may put you or one of your crew as #101 on Nick's list. Sliders in Twin Falls

The only lines I walk are the ones I set. Sometimes it's frightening having so much freedom in one's life, but it is also very liberating. Regarding BASE, if you live by the sword, be prepared to die by the sword. I have seen so many people come into this sport, and once they realized that death is a real possibility, they get out of the sport. It's a serious wake up call for many people once they realize this game we play is a dangerous one and that a fate worse than death can and does occur. My mentor Steve Morrell, BASE 174, once told me that "BASE is a finite sport. If you do it long enough, you will die doing it." I still believe this opinion. He didn't live long enough to have his statement overturned "No one will live to 1000 BASE jumps." I think Space has said something very significant and I wish more people would realize it.
