If only there was a read jumper attached to the rig! Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Right on Peter! Good for him. Those 18 meter rocket jumps are nuts! Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

What would make you "turn in" someone to the FAA?

From being at DZs. Ever heard of a "safety meeting?" In reality, I respect riggers a great deal and I'm just trying to add fuel to the dz.com fire regarding the selective use of self policing and regulations. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174 -

I don't know. One of the problems would be knowing whether a person was impaired while rigging. Part of any process is finding out the truth, which is all but impossible in many cases. "significant percentage of riggers"? That should give everyone a warm and fuzzy feeling. So in the interest of safety and skydiving, "Peek" has no opinion regarding stoned and potentially impaired riggers? Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174 -

A question for Peek: how about a rigger you discover who actively smokes weed? Or perhaps uses even harder substances? Do you report the person and take away a potential livelihood when a significant percentage of riggers fall into the above dangerous category? Yes, it'll be a significant day! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOY!

I would change "risk" to "risk management" in the second sentence. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Funny thing. I jumped my BASE rig from a balloon from 1000 feet. The balloon was not tethered and the pilot was an FAA inspector! Apparently "peek" knows very little about BASE gear. It's always funny when skydivers act like whuffos regarding BASE. What if the jumper was using a 2 parachute system designed for BASE but was not TSO'd? For example, the Sorcerer rig, which can deploy a reserve chute in 25 feet if packed slider down. Or a conventional BASE rig with a D-ring and a belly mounted tersh parachute? Would that have been more acceptable? In reality, the BASE system is incredible safe and will only lead to better gear throughout all of parachuting, including reserves. The new BASE gear improvements are really quite good, including the WLO toggle system and the vented pilot chutes. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

I was visiting Beijing China last week on business and we stopped by the Chinese Silk Factory while on a tour. The guides in this town always include some shop on the tour so that they can get a profit cut for things we buy. Anyway, in the beginning of the tour, they had some very exotic and some ridiculous Oriental silk suits. Next to that they had some photos of various world leaders wearing them. What I found interesting was the photo of Bush and one of the heads of the Chinese communist party in 2001. I don't believe this is Chairman Hu, but I could be wrong. Interestingly, this was about the same time when the Chinese forced down a reconnanscence (spelling?) plane south of Taiwan into China. The Chinese gutted the plane for all its secret hardware and created an international incident. http://www.micktravels.com/china/silk/10-silk-factory.html Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

You are right, but how many jumpers do you know that weigh either 50 pounds or 300 pounds? Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
-
Yes, this is correct. Add 100 to your naked weight in pounds. Add 20 if the altitude is high and/or the landing areas are difficult. Subtract 20 if the jumps have easy landing areas, like those found around many antennas. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Isn't the Mojo also made by (or at least distributed by) Martin? That would put him at 39.7%. ApexBASE has ~30% which includes the Fox, FliK, Dagger, and Rock Dragon. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

Maybe the discrepancy occurs from using 2 significant figures. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

ApexBASE doing this indicates the highest standards of service and the highest levels of ethics. Kudos to ApexBASE!
