  6. I climb out of my rig like this sometimes because I have trouble quickly releasing the chest strap - yes, I know, it's not ideal for water landings or quick getaways. consider doing a double wide leg strap, side by side webbing sewn between the two pieces. 8. Speaking of pooping, on some hairy cliff jumps (at least during the earlier days of BASE jumping when gear and techniques were still in their infancy), it is so frightening that we sometimes carry a role of toilet paper on our chest strap. We call each piece of toilet paper a fear ticket. "Got your fear tickets?" The phrase "Scare the shit out of you" is a real one and combat soldiers I imagine realize this on a fairly regular basis. skydiving canopy

A guess... The 7 cell ZP Aerodyne Research Triathalon with dacron lines. But be warned on any experimentation that you do. The cost of an injury will be far higher than the money you save for finding an all around canopy for skydiving and WS BASE. Carry-on via London?

A friend of mine took his skydiving rig to a Cozumel or some other resort town in Mexico. At one point, they had to change planes. The plane was small and he was forced to check his rig at the plane. When he got off, they handed it to him along with the reserve handle that had separated from the rig via the baggage handlers. 14. A picture of Phil Smith, BASE #1, that he sent out to a number of friends on postcards. A cop is in the foreground. The Lyric Center is in the background on the left and the (previous) Texas Commerce Building is on the right. TCB was the building that allowed the completion of the BASE cycle for the first generation of BASE jumpers. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

  16. we had a local jumper dayblaze a prime site - a huge crane and easy landing area - before the rest of the group got to jump it. so my other buddies go out to it a week later in the middle of the night. a guard jumped out with his pistol drawn on them. my buddies fled and one of them lost his new base rig and his expensive video camera (and would have been deported if he had been apprehended). the consequences for dayblazing can be pretty fucking high. 17. Definetely impressive! Good job VKB guys. I envy your walls and balls. All we have here are terminal antennas though and a few nice buildings. The first time I became aware of "wall surfing," I believe it was in maybe 1999. I remember when Patrick de Gayardon used to swoop the Grand Canyon about 50 feet to 150 feet over the canyon's ledge after exiting from a plane. Heading performance

Low drive and poor lift with 5 cells despite on heading openings. The nose inlets are so large to keep the cells inflated that they provide significant drag on the canopy, preventing significant forward speed. The aspect ratio near 2 seems to give the best overall performance. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
  19. Note to the casual reader... Brian's post is quite correct. Try to get heading control if possible while dealing with the malfunction. Fiddling with a little ring on a toggle while so low is a dangerous endeavor. If the jumper fixes the spin but happens to be pointed toward the object at that moment, the vertical speed will translate into horizontal speed and an object strike could be imminent and quite hazardous, if not deadly. G3-suit. VKB

Definitely cool stuff. How much of an improvement in lift or rather glide ratio are getting over the standard base rig with a typical wing suit? Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174

  24. I have no idea. I have never been to Yosemite, but it's on my life list. My memory must be fading. I do recall that he said he jumped a wall on the other side of a popular Yosemite spot. He said it was incredibly beautiful and maybe a little dicey. Looks like a death sandwich without the bread - Steve Deadman Morrell, BASE 174
