  1. That's me. I'm so sorry. All my best. nothing to see here
  2. I'm sure there's plenty of school teachers who skydive. However if you mean those who also post here... Intermittent poster Swanee is/was a school principal in Australia. hmatousek is a teacher in Chicago. nothing to see here
  3. Seems 'feetupt2' (Suggestions & Feedback forum) has same problem? nothing to see here
  4. Dirt Darts. And if you want to see lots of derogatory terms about skydivers used "in the wild", check out this thread on an Australian pilots' forum: Professional Pilots Rumour Network nothing to see here
  5. I sure didn't read any sarcasm in that?! I think your story's awesome too and would love to do it! Me, I've done a few 'unofficial' jumps into parks and things near friends' homes, but nothing with a massive cheering crowd (though I have had the occasional kid asking for autographs ) I wonder just how many of us there are for whom that quote is absolutely true? nothing to see here
  6. I did half an hour in one day and I was very tired by the end of it and extremely sore the next day. If you do an hour in one day and are not ultra-fit, you may find your last 10 or so 'jumps' are not very beneficial as you are so tired you can barely hold your position. nothing to see here
  7. 1: the temperature 2: a wave Good answers, but not quite... Explain how they are incorrect in any way except that they were not what you were expecting. Explain where I pronounced them 'incorrect'? Ellipses simply mean there is more to a sentence. The end of the sentence may well be "...what I was thinking" or "...what it says on riddle.com" or "...as good as Cherry Ripe chocolate bars". nothing to see here
  8. 1: the temperature 2: a wave Good answers, but not quite... nothing to see here

  10. Oh, don't even get me started! Not a single thing on their menu even remotely resembles what you might consider Australian cuisine!!! And we don't have 'shrimp' in Australia - just prawns! An authentic Aussie restaurant would have meat pies, dim sims (these have nothing to do with dim sum), chiko rolls and fish'n'chips. A bit more upmarket, you might have kangaroo steak, emu or crocodile. And beetroot and egg on the hamburgers, definitely. Still, Outback is probably as authentic as our Chinese restaurants. sounds like Fosters... Oh. A hole.
  11. Who said I gave a shit what other people's opinions of what beer I drink? Actually, my original post was about the misleading advertising campaign for Fosters in America, and not a comment on your personal taste. It was also intended to be fairly lighthearted (as evidenced with the smileys and [/hijack] quotes). However, as it has clearly hit a nerve, I'll cease and desist now.
  12. Fosters is made in Australia (and I never said it wasn't - reread my post). The stuff you get in America, however, is made in Canada.
  13. [hijack] Do they still have that ridiculous campaign that 'Fosters is Australian for beer' over there? 1. The Fosters you get in America is brewed in Canada! It's not Australian at all. 2. Nobody in Australia drinks the Australian-made Fosters (although the most favoured beers are made by the same brewery, CUB). It's only available in 'larger' bottle shops (liquor stores). It's generally exported to other countries in the South-Pacific region. (Probably with the same stupid ad campaign.) 3. Both the Australian-brewed and Canadian-brewed Fosters taste like crap. 4. Obvious conclusion: Fosters is not 'Australian for beer'. Your TV is lying to you!!! [/hijack] Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
  14. I'm no mathematician, but I think you are now asking a different question than that with which you started the thread. I'm going to change the concept of dying whilst skydiving (or playing Russian Roulette) to the concept of breaking an ankle whilst skydiving. Let's say the chance of breaking the ankle is 1 in 500 on any one jump. What you are asking now is: - What is my chance of breaking my ankle once if I jump 1 time? - What is my chance of breaking my ankle once if I jump 25,000 times? I would wager that a person who has done 25,000 jumps is more likely to have broken an ankle at some stage than a person who has done only one jump, simply because they are giving themselves more opportunities to hit that one chance in 500. However, The question that opened the thread was: - What is my chance of breaking my ankle on jump number 1? - What is my chance of breaking my ankle on jump number 25,001 if I haven't broken it before that? inter alia, The chance is equal for both: a 1-in-500 chance. I have no idea why I have entered this debate. But that's just my layperson understanding of the whole thing. Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
  15. I don't understand this. Unless the SL program is very different in the US, this student would not have passed her 15 sec / 20 sec / 30 sec jumps towards the A-Licence. Those jumps require controlled turns (360 and 180), backloops, deltas, tracking etc. If she was spinning on any of these jumps, she would have had to repeat and would not be "off student status". Sounds more like a failure of that particular DZ rather than a failure in the SL system. Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
  16. IMHO, if money is an issue, SL can be the better way to go, reason being that you are able to maintain currency (which is very important) by virtue of being able to afford to jump more often. Here in Australia, at least, by the time you get your 'A' licence, you will be at exactly the same level as someone who achieved their 'A' licence via AFF. Both AFF and SL students then progress to 'B-Rels' (basically Coach Jumps getting you ready for 4-ways to 10-ways), which are exactly the same for both disciplines. If money is not object, go for AFF. Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
  17. I'm getting the same thing... on Win98. Haven't been able to view a gallery for weeks. Wasn't always like this. Wanna see ppl partying at Eloy and go green. Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
  18. Last Sunday is Shopping Day! Soon-to-be-superseded t-shirts for 2 bucks and 50-75% discounts on jumpsuits and freefly pants coz they want less weight to haul home!!! At this stage, I definitely plan to make the trip to the WFFC and am trying to drag a whole Aussie contingent with me! (Skymick, you reading this....? Put ya name up!) 19. So, what was in his book and how did you find out about his accomplishments, the lives he saved, etc? nothing to see here
  20. Did your doctor mention anything about drunken wrestling in the spa...? Was it that long? I thought it was basically just til the next person hurt themself and was in more pain than you. Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
  21. At a boogie or new DZ you'll be asked for both: your Licence number (A8590) and your APF number (1146374). Your licence number is a quick identifier of your skill level, so the DZSO can tell you what you are permitted to do, where you may land, etc, whilst the APF number is a constant identifier. It used to be that the numbers would identify you geographically (ie all Victorian member numbers started with a '3', NSW with a '2' etc), not sure if this is still the case. Hmmmm.... that didn't clear things up much at all, but I've typed it now, so I'll post it anyway. Cheers, Eiley nothing to see here
  22. Funny... I recall this gorgeous, vivacious, friendly, outgoing chick who became an integral part of the social scene at the DZ well before she was off student status! What have you done with her? Where have you hidden the Heather who partied at the Gay Rave, the one who we found in our house cooking us dinner when we came home one night, and the one who features in a whole bunch of drunken photos in my album here in Oz???
  23. Um, do I know you (profile unhelpful)? Or are you just replying to the last post in the thread?
  24. Don't forget one of SO1's best friends reads DZ.com!! SO1 and SO2 did have a chance to get to know each other a little in '02 - SO2, you may recall, won 10 free pack jobs from the staff packers in the MS Boogie raffle (SO1 was a staff packer). Boy, were those guys impressed that the winner of the 10 free packs had a brand frigging new Sabre2! Anyway, I don't think you have anything to worry about, at least on the part of SO1. Cheers, Eiley ETA: Andy, do you have an online gallery of pics from the Xmas party, or know where I can find one? nothing to see here
