  1. There is much to admire about him, but just to make sure we remember the other side... From PBS.org, Fallen Hero: Charles Lindbergh in the 1940s: Having returned to America in April 1939, Lindbergh turned his attention toward keeping his country out of a war in Europe. At the time, most Americans shared his isolationist views. Germany invaded Poland five months later, drawing Britain and France into the war. Two weeks later, Lindbergh delivered his first nationwide radio address in which he urged America to remain neutral. In the speech he criticized President Roosevelt, who believed the Nazis must be stopped in their conquest of Europe. Lindbergh saw Nazi victory as certain and thought America's attention should be placed elsewhere. "These wars in Europe are not wars in which our civilization is defending itself against some Asiatic intruder... This is not a question of banding together to defend the white race against foreign invasion." Building on his belief that "racial strength is vital," Lindbergh published an article in Reader's Digest stating, "That our civilization depends on a Western wall of race and arms which can hold back... the infiltration of inferior blood." And... To millions of one-time admirers, Charles Lindbergh's luster had been fatally tainted by his words and associations during the 1930's and early 1940's. Historian William O'Neill spoke for many Americans when he offered the opinion that "In promoting appeasement and military unpreparedness, Lindbergh damaged his country to a greater degree than any other private citizen in modern times. That he meant well makes no difference." It would be years before the words Lindbergh and hero were again uttered in the same breath. 2. Can someone post a pic of how they are attached? Thanks, Cliff People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  3. Doesn't seem like a major change to me, not any more invasive than sewing on a pocket for a hook knife onto the webbing, as long as you stay away from the existing stitching. Am I wrong? 4. Thanks for the feedback. So I'll conclude that as long as I can get them installed the first time, that no rigger will be so anal retentive to complain about it. I never had any doubt about whether SLINKS were safe for use on my rig, just wondered if I would face a hassle with some riggers. Thanks again. 5. I understand, but isn't it still possible that the next rigger to pack it may determine that PD doesn't allow SLINKS to be used for my brand of reserve, and refuse to pack it? For instance, the Bomb Proof loft at Eloy will refuse to pack a reserve without slider bumpers, my reserve was first assembled without them. So how can I avoid the potential of riggers not agreeing with each other on such a "grey" subject. Thanks for your help. 6. It still seems from their website that PD only approves their use with PD reserves (did PD accept/acknowledge Precisions approval?). So if a master rigger installs them, I might later have another rigger object and refuse to pack the reserve without metal links. Is this a realistic possibility, or does master rigger status prevent second-guessing on this kind of "grey-area" judgement call? 7. Do you also need to install a wind deflector to fly with the door removed, or is it just helpful/optional? 9. Remember to not give up-don't think you have to complete a front-flip if you go past vertical. You still are just slightly head down relative to the wind. 10. Does anyone know if SLINKS will be approved for other reserves? Will each reserve have to be recertified? If the links are considered part of the TSO configuration-must be configured as tested by the mfg, then I would think that the reserve mfg would have to specify what size link must be used, including carbon steel or stainless. Apparently PD considers the link part of the reserve config, as opposed to the links considered part of the harness/container. I think it would be nice to eliminate possible over/undertightening of the links and subsequent cracking/loosening of the nut as a possibility. Of course I would not knowingly choose a rigger so incompetent, but we don't always have the luxury of using our "favorite" rigger. Thanks in advance for your thoughts and info. 16. Has anyone tried adding another layer of leather instead of coating the bottom with the goo? Besides having a reputation for making it slick, I just don't like the idea of putting goo on my expensive new suit for wear protection. Seems like it would be best sewn on, but maybe a little goo as adhesive around the outer edges might be enough and not require paying a rigger. When the leather got thin, you could remove it and apply a new layer. I only wish I had asked for this to be done by the mfg. Please let me know your opinions. 18. It lets the company decide what speed and weight for which they want to claim a rating. The harness will only be exposed to a normal reserve opening shock, nowhere near the load of the ground based-5000lb test. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  19. Very interesting, so the different ratings (-b, -d, etc.) actually require very different proof of structural integrity. So a '-b' cert demonstrates that the H/C can withstand 20g for a 250lb load, and the '-d' cert only shows that it can take a normal reserve opening (probably no more than 4g?). Thank you Mr. Booth Cliff People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. 20. What g-load limits? Are the drop tests required to impart a minimum g-load. What is that load? Does it change for the heavier, higher speed tests? Either the test procedures actually require more load to be applied to the harness, or it just supposes that more load will likely be applied by subjecting it to the opening of a reserve with more load at higher speed. Either the procedure allows the use of slow opening canopies and allows packing methods to produce slow openings or it requires minimum g-load to be sustained for a minimum time. It appears that the standard does not allow one to make the conclusion that such rigs are stronger. Without knowing the old spec applied (for example) at least 250 lb at 8g for 30ms, versus the new spec applied at least 250 lb at 12g for 30ms, the spec is meaningless. Am I the only one who sees this? Or is there really some useful differenc in the test requirements to prove the harness has been subjected to more load? As I said before, I don't want to believe the tests are so inadequate, but it is starting to look that way. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  21. All the trouble to require load cells but no objective standard? So the weight/speed standards prove nothing other than the ability to withstand a set of openings on the canopy of choice by the mfg? I just want to know what these ratings are actually proving. 22. What I want to confirm is what the test procedure is for the harness container system-not the reserve. Is it subjected to a static/ground loading test AND dummy drop tests? Or is it dummy drop tests only? Cliff People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
  23. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the TSO allow a person to "help" their results when testing a container by using reserves known to open slowly (even rounds)? If true, then the load applied is not known, therefore proving nothing. I really hope this is not true. Wouldn't it make more sense for harnesses to be tested based on a certain load mechanically applied in an easily repeatable manner. The load could of course be a based on wanting to withstand a specified weight at a specified g-load, of couse simulated with a static load for a specified time. 25. If you're packing it yourself, then there is no issue, any rigger can supervise, right? Or does it have to be a master rigger? Anyway, you've got the issue solved and can probably show a lot of witnessing riggers the right - easy way to do it. Too bad you still have to pay for it, or do you?
