Thurlow was interviewed last night on Hannity & Colmes. I couldn't find a transcript of it on their site, but he is very credible, in my opinion. He thought he got the medal for saving the boat that hit the mine, he didn't write the citation, Kerry did. John O'Neill's interview: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,129554,00.html There was no enemy fire when the guy was picked up from the water. Many boats were there, many honorable men say they spent about an hour trying to save a boat without being under fire. I hope Kerry will debate his Vietnam service with these guys who served with him, instead of just challenging Bush to debate it. I think he won't, just like he won't challenge the validity of these charges, except to say that they are false because of the money which financed the advertisement. Bring it on! Iraqi soccer players angered by Bush campaign ads featuring team
sundevil777 replied to outrager's topic in Speakers Corner
Dang dude ... Iraqis are not free. They're just living under a different dictator (GWB) that's all. Plus I have one question for you. If a foreign army invaded your homeland, what would you do? Proclaim the invading army defenders of your freedom? Ya right ... LOL ... The Iraqis were clearly very happy to be liberated, even though it had to be done by invading. Don't you remember all the people putting the smack down on SH's picture with their shoes? I think it was not staged, it reflected the sentiment of the vast majority. It is just since having to face the harsh reality that decades of decay/neglect cannot be fixed so quickly that there is so much discontent. The golden nuggets should not be competing with private DZs to offer such a service. edit-for Bush 41, I can understand, but not a mayor of a small town. Isn't that why the National Guard is not allowed to offer the services of a few C-130s for record attempts, because a person can hire them from private companies? About how many are now over 12 years old worldwide? Maybe will be more common when riggers are faced more with the temptation for their own rigs. I would expect there to be a market for retired units in countries with no law requiring adherence to mfg instructions. Are there any such countries that have drop zones? Buy one that needs the service to be done (at appropriate cost, of course). You pay SSK directly for the service, seller ships it to Ohio. SSK should owe you the report of the unit's health. Anyway, it will leave in good condition - repair/replace/adjust whatever is needed. You then get a unit with no doubts. edit-don't buy it until you get the OK from SSK, so that if it got wet you wouldn't have a worthless unit, they won't fix that sort of stuff within the cost of the 4/8 year service. Your risk is only that service cost. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I grab the toggles without even looking at them (as I'm checking for traffic). I also stow the brake line excess so that it cannot be hanging down in the area that I will grab. I kinda like having full toggle control as soon as possible to avoid others with a full toggle turn if needed. So funny to see the background for such shots! Highlights magazine! Looks like the floor of a kids bedroom after a sleepover party. Can't go wrong with red, white, and blue. Risers in, should I cut-away before reserve pull
sundevil777 replied to pierre3636's topic in Safety and Training
If the main falls out of the container after opening shock (down), it will inflate slowly and can be chopped easily before it causes a problem. It is the scenario where a PC in tow clears when the reserve container opens/freebag leaves that is the important one to consider. sundevil777 replied to pierre3636's topic in Safety and Training
I believe that you are incorrect. The PD/army study does not support your conclusion. I think far too many make this conclusion based upon nothing more than what seems 'obvious'. No offense intended. If the main deploys after the reserve, the freebag is already gone, not an issue in this discussion. I really do think that this issue is one of the most important within the realm of safety and training - because there is not general agreement on the right procedure (even within the SIM). If your main is going to deploy straight up alongside your reserve, the main PC and bag will do so whether you cutaway or not. However, I do not want the loose risers to be whipping around as they pass by the reserve. Why do you prefer the triangular shape? I just like it to not stick so far out, it is still plenty - very easy to grab when I needed it. In my opinion, there are a lot of very uninformed opinions that have been offered so far in this thread. That is to say, bad advice. For a much more intelligent discussion, try this thread (of course my posts are the only ones you need pay attention : http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=598018;search_string=army;#598018 People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I think the low profile handle you mention is the same as I discussed a while back in this thread, with pictures: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=429237;search_string=profile;#429237 People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Cost of freebag (Tell me this is a joke!!!)
sundevil777 replied to goose491's topic in Gear and Rigging
I think the manufaturers would be wise to offer extra handles and freebag/PC at the time you order your system, at a 'normal' price. 13 people due to some 1990 agreement to observe each others elections, probably for some 'educational' agenda, having to stay 50 feet away - that doesn't bother me. It may have been stupid to agree to that in 1990, but it amounts to nothing really. I don't like the way he portrayed everyone in congress as corrupt due to campaign money, well not exactly, since he didn't admit to being corrupt himself. And then to push so much for his campaign finance reform as such a great solution. It has turned out to have no good effect. As opposed to radar altimeters? I like to wear my wrist mount with only the index finger through the loop (it is small), so that the dial is more toward the thumb, not so much in the burble, and easier to see without turning your wrist. Ex-freekin'-cuse me?!? "Cheney Blames Democrats for Gas Prices"
sundevil777 replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
When the dems DID control both houses and Clinton was pres, he didn't always get his way in Congress either. It only took a couple of senators to not support the party leadership to stop a bill. So, it is not pure spin. Some Rep senators did not support the pres, but the entire dem leadership was against it. Thanks for the link. That was the one I was remembering. So, consider that the unit uses about/at most around 100 times less power at 'rest' compared to when the LED is on/calibrating. Turning off the unit takes, say 10 seconds or so. So if the unit were on for 100*10=1000 seconds or about 16 minutes, then you are better to turn it off. Even with the assumptions that I haven't listed, or even if it is 1000 times less power, then it would be about 2.5 hours for the break even point. So I think it is fairly safe to make the obvious conclusion. The reason why the battery voltage is lower when the ammeter was connected is because a parallel circuit is established, the measurement affects the system by draining some power. A more expensive meter with a higher impedence would use less. People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. Wow, how times have changed. At 280 jumps It is too bad that you don't have the confidence to be a part of it. I don't mean to say you should get into a dangerous situation-over your head, but are you sure the organizers could not find an appropriate slot for you? I do know that you would have been on Cloud 9 if you had been part of the big-ways. Honestly explain to the load organizer your skills and misgivings and let them decide. They may tell you, sorry, it is over your head, or they may welcome you near/as part of the base. This time of year, every weekend is a CASA boogie at SGC-Xenia! I don't mind them being slower, they are so comfortable and I love the big, wide tailgate for RW exits.
