  4. The instructor who showed you that is not correct. The unstowed portion of the lines in reality is not an issue. They aren't going to wrap around other lines unless you do it intentionally or your packing techniques are horrific. Keep the lines down the side and away from under the reserve tray. There are many instances where a reserve tray has been removed from the back pad. It's caused by unstable or back to earth or vertical deployments. The tray won't leave completely but it will smack you in the head as it flips up. When it does happen, the damage and line burns all over the container are most impressive. The reserve will still probably function properly if needed. A bight of lines in a rubber band is pretty soft, it takes a lot of ingenuity to actually wrap another line around one and make it stay there. If it were easy to do, there would be daily baglocks because there are some seriously crummy packers out there. Just put the lines down the side, and place the bag in the tray in an orderly manner.   6. How much time passed between bottom skin inflation till impact with the cliff? Were you whipped out of the 1/2 line twist or into more line twists? From the pictures it appears there's plenty of room between you and the cliff but it doesn't show how fast you surged toward the cliff, or if you were still in a twist. How much actual time did it take to strike the cliff. I'd like to hear your account of the cliff strike. Preferably written outside the internet character of magot.     Tailgate

    What may be interesting is watching a lot of video where a tailgate is in use. Nose first inflation may or may not occur. If you keep the brake lines away from the nose, chances of a line over is slim. If the tail expands first as it often does, as long as it won't get over the nose, it doesn't matter. I'll make an attempt to get video next time I'm at the perrine using different pack jobs to see if that makes a difference. People assume that because there is a tail gate, it will constrict the tail long enough for the front of the parachute to expand first. Basically whatever part of the bottom skin catches are first will expand. The last video of my canopy opening, was clearly tail first. Some of the other jumpers had nose first, some some expanded simultaneous. Line management and orderly bottom skin expansion is key. If the tail goes first, that's fine.   16. Edit: I explained what it is so I edited it out.. yes I know what it is. As for the tail gate ... A tail gate may or may not help with nose first inflation. It will help to keep the tail and the nose away from each other because it encourages line management.   18. That is not true. It depends on what is meant by freeflying. Real freeflying will require certain Measures. The pin cover can't allow air to enter the top or bottle and flip it open. The BOC is large so a small pilot chute can escape. It must be tightened up to hold a small PC tightly. Premature deployments happen on skydiving rigs. Having it happen on a BASE rig has it's obvious hazards. A horshoe on a BASE rig is probably deadly. I've watched plenty of premature deployments and some included injuries from the canopy deploying in front of the arm. Head down is only a position, it is not freeflying. I would be fairly comfortable just holding a head down for a while with my rig, however, I would not perform multiple cartwheels, spins,(both head down and head up), layouts, eagles, etc... In other words, off a tall cliff, sure, from a plane, keep it simple. (I just read the typo on the Para Avis site) My skydiving rigs include an Eclipse, and an Infinity. Both of my containers will handle anything thrown at them. My 2 Perrigee Pro rigs will perform it's duties rather well but I wouldn't perform real free flying it.   19. I agree with Martini. Keep bashing the Sabre. I’m cheap when it comes to canopy purchases and I may have to up size one day. Yes I've read all the Sabre threads. Since fast openings (on the ones that do open fast) can be fixed easily, it's no big deal. Sabres fly great. They surf just fine and they are pretty easy to do accuracy with when needed. They also are a lot of fun to stall and back spin. They're stable, handle front riser input quite nicely too. With 1000 jumps, the canopy probably opens fine. I find it difficult to believe someone would put that many jumps on something that slams open. It's either that or the canopy has gone through 12 owners and that's not likely either. I've jumped plenty of Sabres. Only one had fast opening characteristics. It was fixed with a pocketed slider, and then eventually replaced the slider. If the canopy is in decent condition, 1000 jumps is nothing. One of my Stilettos has 3000 jumps on it and is still airworthy. The bigger Stiletto opens nice and soft.   22. Yes, I've seen that. Proper planning includes feet placement. When wrappinging your legs around the other jumper, keep your feet well away from the main pack tray. No one says that a Mr Bill is safe but people *will* do them anyway. Since they will, show them how. Don't do ever! .... doesn't work. When I first started, the instructors were swooping. I asked about it and the feedback I recieved was ... Don't do hook turns, and that was that. Rather than someone showing me how, I just figured it out myself. It's a crummy way to learn. Mr Bills are dangerous, no doubt about it. It won't stop anyone from doing them if they want to because they are fun. My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Ghetto
  23. So you're saying you wouldn't want to do one? Of course, obviously it's more of a risk. I've done a few and the worst result was I couldn't hold on through deployment. Sometimes not studying math has it's benefits. It makes risk calculations a lot easier

  25. Tell us more why you feel this way? There are many dumb things to do yet people do them anyway. I find Mr Bill dives to be a calculated risk and can be done rather safely.
