Heya all, The Dropzone Pub is up! The success of this joynt largely depends on how much good to rather worthless information, stories and photos you can bombard me with! I'm looking for a pub-master, bar man or lady! Someone with HTML skills who knows how to manipulate a few images and know his/her way around a computer, to take over the management and building of the pub. It could also be a team of people. Some could be hunting for content while someone else is manning the bar. Drop me an email if this is you and you'll be able to commit some of your time for a few months at least. Most of what you see on the page has been automated and it should not take much effort to maintain. (Setting it up is always the hardest part) It could be loads of fun and I'll be at the table in the corner, ready to help! As always, I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions. Enjoy!

Hey all, Well - after traveling like the proverbial dog for the past month or so I just flew into San Francisco today and hope to be here for at least a couple of weeks. That should allow me to find some time to work on Dropzone.com.

You mean you didn't get that.... The problem with chat rooms are that they frequently bog down your entire server making not only the chat room but also the rest of the site slow. I've considered a few options including hosting the chat room on a remote server - I'm still considering that. A further problem is that it is hard (to almost impossible) to moderate a chat room. A few unpleasant characters can easily create an experience and environment that reflects negatively on the host. I'm not against the idea - I'm merely still looking for a model that I can live with.

Skreamer, Had a similar experience with L&B. Couldn't get my Pro-Track software to work on my PC. I posted a question about it in wreck.skydiving (didn't even contact L&B directly yet) - next day there's an email in my mailbox asking for my snail-mail address so they can send me a new unit! I'm trying to explain that it may just be a configuration problem on my side... Before I can figure it out my new unit arrives! Post your story to the gear review section as well. Thank you for the kind words dear! You are oh so welcome. It's been an absolute pleasure to follow your progression on these forums for months now. You'll be amazed how much you taught people while you think you were only learning, and I'm not only talking about skydiving. And although you may think it's mushy, notes like yours is what motivates me when it's late at night and I have to put in a few hours on the site to get something new out. Thank you.

Hey Geoff (jou IP adres gee jou weg!) Die probleem met Chat Rooms is dat dit heel gereeld jou server se geheue tap tot die punt waar alles anders ook stadig begin raak. Ek het al oorweek om 'n chat room op te sit wat op 'n ander server geinstalleer is... sal nog sien. 'n Verdere probleem is dat die moeilik is om 'n chat room te modereer - voor jy kan se poep-in-die-bad is almal buite beheer, misbruik die fasilitiet en dan's daar 'n gemors om op te ruim... Hey - new messages are market as "new" and their icons are orange instead of yellow. I find the best way to track new messages is to set my "display preferences" (click on "edit profile" in the navigation bar) as below: Default sort order: Descending date Default display mode: Threaded Mode Default view: Collapsed Threads Total parent posts to show per page: 25 Play around with these preferences a bit.
