  1. Matter's MTR-1 sells for about $876. It is available in one color and twelve sizes (four sizes of three areas of the suit). Their delivery is usually within a few days. Matter Clothing is found at http://www.matterclothing.com. Edited to add: If you're looking into the one-wing design, Fly Your Body's S-Fly is approximately $740. The S-Fly comes in four stock or custom colors. All sizes are custom. The delivery time is six weeks for stock colors and nine weeks for custom colors. Fly Your Body is on the web at http://www.flyyourbody.com. Personally, I say spend the extra $50 and buy a GTi, or try to find a used one for cheap. The least expensive NEW suit on the market is BirdMan's Classic II at $699. So if you're looking for the "suit for the common man", the Classic II is it. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  2. Yeah. I did. I ate the worm and then shit my pants. I don't remember much of that night, but I hear I didn't have too good of a time. I haven't touched hard liquor since. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  4. Is that the one where the hackey slipped under his container? Crazy stuff, that. Yeah, we definitely have our bouts of clear weather here during the winter. Last weekend was gorgeous. Do you fly a wingsuit? Either way, it'd be nice to have you down here. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  5. Thought I'd help out, too. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  6. A Crossbow. I met him just recently. Really, really nice guy and he's got quite a few jumps on that Crossbow (plus probably a couple dozen on his new S3, if I recall correctly). "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  7. Very very nice. Sounds absolutely beautiful. It's really amazing the exploring you can do with these. I've really enjoyed getting out very far away from the drop zone and exploring the surrounding area... going places that you would never dream of going (and certainly land out) without a wingsuit. This really is the best thing that can be done with one's time. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  8. It is called the GX. Those who were here at SDO and bombarded Jim with questions about the canopy will confirm that. Edited to add: I've noticed attention to the rigidity of the center cells to improve openings on newer canopies. On the Sabre2, the ribs between the center cells have these sort of "stiffeners" at the nose. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  9. Body position, of course. Packing... maybe not... to a degree. If your pack job is lopsided, uneven, etc, it seems like the way the canopy inflates would make up for that a bit by inflating nose to end cells evenly and consistently. Maybe it won't be in the exact direction you are facing (if the pack job is at an angle, the bag rotates, etc), but it wouldn't hunt for a heading. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  10. Literally. When he was still at about a grand, he was pretty far out and we were saying, "he'll be low by the time he gets over here." By the time he got there, people were screaming, "ABORT! ABORT!". Once he made the turn, you just hear, "No no no no no no no no no no no no no." They all made it without a scratch, though. Even the gear (cameras, Cypreses, etc). skydivingmovies.com is not being cooperative with the big version. Argh. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  11. That's "My Week Beats Your Year" by Telefon Tel Aviv from their album, "Map of What Is Effortless", scheduled to be released at the end of January 2004. You'll be able to get it here (we got an advance copy). It's different than most of their stuff, but all their stuff is good. I didn't even noticed after putting the music in that the first line is, "I stepped off the plane and it was so fresh." :) "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  12. Weird. I even made the video with Microsoft Movie Maker (a new plug-in I installed for Premiere 6.5 KILLED it, and I haven't found my disc yet). You'd think there wouldn't be a compatibility issue. ;) I'm uploading the high res version to skydivingmovies.com right now. The encoding is a little more straight forward. There's not much compression, so the file size is big, but the quality is worth it. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  13. Did you try DLing it first and then playing it from your machine? Media Player does that for me, too, when I try to stream a file, on occasion. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  14. They didn't even mention "The Bottle Top Spin". FYI, "The Bottle Top Spin" is the name of a move that doesn't exist that can be applied to any sport where tricks are involved (breakdancing, dirt biking, kiteboarding, etc). It makes it sound like you know what you are talking about, and can be followed up with an accusation of not being a member of a certain "school", as shown in the two examples below: - "What?! You've never heard of the bottle top spin? Man, and you act like you're old school." - "You haven't hit the bottle top spin yet? You gotta get with the new school." 15. http://www.deepart.org/sight/the_carnage_round.wmv OK, they aren't all chows. The distance swooping competition at this year's Freedom Jam went terribly awry. Amazingly, the participants all walked away without a scratch, but left us some really nice carnage footage. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  16. I go for the pond, but only with the legs snapped up. I also set up a little closer to ensure that I'll clear the pond, but not so close that I'll miss it and hit the ground if I hook it too low. I wasn't there when it happened, but there was a pretty nasty wingsuit chow at our DZ once. No injury, but lots of wet gear. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  17. How about you just hand the rating over, I'll buy you a beer, and we call it even? "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  18. True. I'm just anal about these things, I guess. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  19. 'Bout damn time. I've been trying to coincide with the course for awhile. I agree that Jan 1 is a bad idea. I'm leaving on the first, and as I understand it, so are most people. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
  20. Ugh. It's so bad it's almost funny. This isn't news, this is a sixth-grade current events report full of invalid information and little to no relevancy between subjects. You know it's doomed when the claim is made that going from 120 MPH to 45 MPH *doubles* your freefall time to two minutes. 45 down more than doubles, even when pulling high. That whole BSBD/Porsche/BMW quote was a frickin' joke. BD's quote was the only thing that was true and pressworthy, but even then, the writer had to throw in a comment to twist his his words. And where they got that Felix did anything BirdMan related in freefall for 14 minutes or that he popularized wingsuits (which he wasn't even flying), I'll never know. 21. Yeah, that was Evan. His camera, his Cypres, and himself made it through 100%. It's amazing that it all happened in one round, and that no one got hurt. As I understand it, the spot was off on a hop and pop load, and most people were low by the time they got back. We would have lost some legs and maybe some people without that pond. Though the water definitely contributes to target fixation, so... who knows. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  23. I used to live in Jamul, CA. Some friends down there sent me pictures of the fires. It takes me back to when we had a HUGE fire less than one mile from our house. We were asked to evacuate, but a Santa Ana was happening. The wind blew really hard from the East, and we were North of the fire. Seriously doubting the destruction of our home, my brother and I grabbed some cranberry juice, bloody Mary mix, and a bottle of vodka and went up to the top of a neighboring mountain, a few hundred feet from the fire. We got wasted and had a hell of a show as propane tanks exploded every ten minutes or so. Good luck down there, guys! (Edited to add pics) "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

  25. Jim (flyinfishman) came down from Snohomish to get his first three flights in on his very nice looking *shiny* new GTi. On the first flight, he was going down in a little quick (and had a nice spin on deployment). On his third flight, he nailed the low 50s for a good three grand. I was in my GTi, as well (which was really fun to put back on), and he kicked my ass in the air. The guy's a freakin' natural. The sun against his suit looked really cool. Got the attached pic from him. That's him on the right. Look out for this guy. "¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
