  1. Well, in fact, I do have a fairly low opinion of high school students as a group, but its not really their fault, that would be the parents and teachers... I'll grant that that opinion is based on a limited group that I have been exposed to (Southern IL, Coastal GA, and the Houston area)... you must have a fairly low opinion too, to say that they can not make up their own mind about evolution based on evidence presented in the text... but that besides the point... You missed two key words from my post, "see" and "hear". The sticker neither states or advocates anything but that Evolution is a theory. There is no mention of any other theory, much less creationism, nor is there any advocation that creationism be taught on par with evolution... so it appears the courts have become the thought police by esentially supressing a fact (which no one here seems to dispute, that is Evolution is a theory) because of a preceived religious intent. So, again, a simple yes no question... is evolution a fact or a theory? and another one, does the sticker say anything about religion or creationism? Supressing the sticker on Constitutional grounds is BS... with so many other REAL threats to the Consitution out there, what a waste of the court's time. J \ That is a silly distinction. Is f=ma theory or fact? Most people call it Newton's 2nd LAW, but it fails at very large and very small distances. We don't put warning stickers in physics text books saying "Newton's Laws are only a theory" . . www.freak-brother.com
  2. How is the movement of an airfoil through the air as a helo rotor blade different from the movement of an airfoil through the air as a wing? . . www.freak-brother.com
  3. Average annual precipitation in London, England = 23 inches (source, UK Met. Office). So much for stereotypes. . . www.freak-brother.com
  4. It's a physics/materials science issue. Has to do with tin's tetragonal crystal structure and anisotropic surface energy and entropy. Been known about for decades. . . www.freak-brother.com
  5. Since airplane effects have already been described, I'll just add that a similar effect is found in helos within about 1 rotor diameter of the ground. In marginal situations (hevy load, high density altitude) an aircraft may be able to take off but not climb out of ground effect. Has caused a number of accidents over the years. . . www.freak-brother.com
  6. At the 100 ways in Perris last September, Kate and Louis (keygivers) were using a system to talk to each other in freefall. Don't know the details of the system but apparently it worked OK. . . www.freak-brother.com
  7. The center of lift and aerodynamic center (AC) are not the same thing. The Cof L moves around depending on control inputs, and coincides with the CG if the aircraft has no angular acceleration in pitch. The AC is the point at which pitching moment coefficiants are invariant and (for the entire aircraft)needs to be behind the CG for stability. On a subsonic airfoils the AC is at 25% of the mean chord. The aircraft AC is found by weighted average of the contributions of the various components (wing, tail, canard, fuselage even). . . www.freak-brother.com

  10. I can average 80mph in a tight nylon Tony "Pit" RW suit, on a tracking dive. I know some who can go even slower in a regular RW suit. 69 dosn't seem all that unexpected in a custom tracking suit. . . www.freak-brother.com
  11. I didn't start till '81 so I missed that. But about a year after Muskogee, Bill C. bought Skydance and moved it over to Tahlequah. I had re-enlisted in the Army so I only got to jump there on leave. Lotsa them folks are still around. And, stories about them days still eminate.... It was the season of 10 way, the 100 yard dash of skydiving. Damn I miss old 10 way. Sparky Hinckley, IL, first completed 10-way outside of SoCal. Where the Freak Brothers started. DZ is still there. . . www.freak-brother.com
  12. Then there's the real Skydive Chicago. . . www.freak-brother.com
  13. I am shocked to hear about his passing. I had jumped with Steve years ago when I lived in Illinois and before moving to Florida. We even did a few demos together as part of the Pegasus Skydiving Team many years ago. He was a good guy and a very skilled skydiver. I would appreciate any details about what happened. Mike Anderson D-9493 Mike We have no details. There will be an ash-dive in the Spring. I will post where and when, once it has been decided. J . . www.freak-brother.com
  14. If you read my posts, I tooks Ron's suggestion as a good suggestion. I haven't seen anyone else post a good suggestion, just whining. Derek "Houston, we have a problem" isn't whining. . . www.freak-brother.com

  16. True, the salary of POTUS alone is currently $400,000. His response was still generous and probably in excess of proportionate with fellow citizens and the level that would be healthy for us to contribute at as a nation and needs to be viewed in the context of his other generous donations. Besides all this you're missing the underlying point that it's none of your business, . It became our business when the White House announced it. It's around 0.05% of his net worth. . . www.freak-brother.com
  17. Huh? That is where we disagree then. I don't feel DZ.com exists because of my input. I like learning, discussing, etc. Derek "Think I wonder how many incidents have been avoided because DZ.com exists?" I find it very hard to believe that you so readily discount the contributions of the users. Who wrote the safety articles and accident analyses tha allowed incident to be avoided? Who wrote the equipment reviews? Who writes the tips on camera and video techniques. I know a now banned guy who contributed a lot of safety stuff. Do you just consider these people parasites? . . www.freak-brother.com
  18. That is certainly true. Doesn't mean it's right. Sometimes it pays to recall the wisdom of the ages. All the following are plagiarized from very smart people.. We thought, because we had power, we had wisdom. Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should. Democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others. Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. Better jaw-jaw than war-war. Good fences make for good neighbors. To improve is to change; to be perfect is to change often. Always do right. That will gratify some of the people, and astonish the rest. The characteristic of dictatorships is fear. If the people stop fearing the dictator, he'll lose power. . . www.freak-brother.com
  19. There are those that simply roll over and accept what life presents to them, and those that try to improve upon it. . . www.freak-brother.com
  20. I'm not arguing with the empirical results, but I have larger variations than that in one day without any weight changes. Having said that, starting with the assumption that 3 lbs give you 2 mph probably is a good starting point. Come to that, I can go from 95 to 135 and back again on my belly in a single skydive. However, the 2mph/3lbs seems to work for average speeds in my comfort zone. I'm sure a tiny person would see more of an effect per lb added. . . www.freak-brother.com
  21. The physicist in me says the exact same thing, but the empiricist says I (me) get about 2mph extra for each 3 pounds of lead, when starting at 110mph, for amounts between 0 and 15 pounds. Would obviously be different for other body shapes and sizes. Linear enough over that limited range. . . www.freak-brother.com
  22. Hi Mike, I don't know. His sister was going thru his stuff and came across his FB card. Apparently she did a web search and found me (as the FB webmaster). So your database efforts came in useful! TJ Hine has volunteered to organize a planeload for him when the DZs open for the season. . . www.freak-brother.com
  23. I believe that is the guy (didn't know him myself). TJ has offered to organize. Jeff - ?
