  1. IF the reserve was soaked, wouldn't that affect the weight of the fabric (i.e. heavier) and make the deployment sequence unusual? If the heavier fabric inhibited the deployment sequence, could that be where the tension knots begin to form? I have no idea, just wondering. I think you are right on. increase mass of the lines and canopy may make it easier to strip the bag off. Then all bets are off... rm
  2. I'll bet the cypres2 just turns itself off. rm
  3. I would have turned mine OFF for the jump - if I had one. They worked as designed..... rm
  4. a 182 with the IO520 is a rocket. is it possible you are not getting 300HP... rm
  5. if you were a DZO and had to use your own cash and wanted to maximize profit you'd buy a Caravan over a PAC750? I find that surprising to hear. Why the popularity of the PAC750 then? rm
  6. 6 jumpers in a widebody 182? not with me on board. rm
  7. Rob was refering to the DHC3 "Super" Otter - which is a single. Most are on floats I think. Never jumped one but it (or a PAC750) is what I would buy if I had cash to burn.... http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/review/ttc.htm rm
  8. when it comes to a container and reserve, I'll take tried n true before cutting edge. Main canopy is another story... rm
  9. I sell a lot of gear for friends. When I sell a reserve I always ask experience level and exit weight. Sometimes, I will not sell the reserve to a interested buyer. For example a Raven 135-M is an OK reserve but only for someone with an exit weight of up to 150 lbs OR unless they have landed one heavily loaded (know what they are doing). I had a -M for many years and it was overloaded too much. Never had to put a jump on it but finally moved on to a PDr, they are bullet proof and handle being overloaded well - like the other modern reserves. rm
  10. Ten years ago my S/L instructor in Russia told us a story about someone who was jumping with wedding ring. The ring had a big diamond on it, which made it a perfect snag point. During deployment a suspension line wrapped around the diamond, and cut his finger off. Next jump EVERYBODY removed all the rings they had - even the "non-removable" rings as they said before. For me it is simple though, as I never wear any jewelry, so we decided not to buy wedding rings at all for our wedding. same here. I hate rings etc so just said I don't want one. If I did have one, I'd take it off to jump. rm
  11. what is the size of the PC, how long is the bridle. is it zero p. I replace my PC at 500 jumps or before that if it starts to hesitate. To avoid potential problems I go with the container manufacturer. I would not use anything less than 26 inch zero p - for any canopy. Maybe overly safe but I do not want PC in tow on a low hop n pop again.... rm
  12. if I was there we could have done a 3 way "racer way" along with P. Chapman. I agree they are perfect! rm
  13. I need to watch that video again.....a classic for sure. rm
  14. well you have to understand. someone says they load a VX at 2,5 and says they are doing 270's at 500ft. I don't see how they are not low. on the otherhand, why would't' i believe you? thats why i want to see a video, to better understand what is going on. there could be many factors "why you are not low". but 500ft, on a vx loaded at 2.5 with its standard trim, even with a fast 270, IS low. I am not at the high experience level of some of you guys so I hesitate to comment but my VX is loaded at 2.3 and I start 270 at 670ft using neptune alarm and eye balls. Usually hit 6 ft gates nicely. Not sure about the time to complete but it is not what I would call a slow turn or whipping it around. My buddy flies a Velocity 90 at 2.2 and when we land together he generally needs more altitude than I do - making it a real challange. rm
  15. do they get any easier with (say) 600 jumps on them. I would not buy new anyway - way too much cash for me. Plus I would want the Skyworks lines installed. I thought "top skin only" would be a good compomise - apparently it was tested and did not work out. rm
  16. good stuff. does a 96 JVX 2.0 (sail material) pack up about the same as a 150 9 cell zp? just wondering if it will fit my container - it fits up to a 150. I have a 97 VX now. no cash now but I think I know what my next main will be! rm
  17. I don't like the word belly. I say just call it RW because that is what it was in the beginning. rm
  18. are you guys (the top swoopers) using the jvx with sail material or the regular jvx. I asked a canopy designer about the material and he said it does not make sense to use. I think the real proof will be in the competition results.... rm
  19. maybe it is only me. how did we get to call it belly flying. I #ucking hate the term. to answer your question go to a tunnel and get good coaching EARLY ON. I wish I had. rm
  20. what about the relative weakness of the US dollar. Only a factor if you buy material from other countries. a weak US dollar makes your canopies cheap (edit cheaper) for Canadians... rm
  21. Mine's been fine since I bought it... mine also. don't they reset themselves if at altitude too long. I think I read this in the instructions. rm
  22. get MELs thin cascaded HMA lines if you don't have them now. it will help... rm
  23. My reserve pin(s) cannot be bent from leaning on anything or from jamming the reserve into the the door on a late exit, and my 6'4", 200lb self has not been able to bend one during packing...despite the fact that I pull my closing loops as tight as I physically can during closing. Sometimes a better design is just the way to go... yes, I always check but never will see bent pins on my racer. you should get a copy of the new reserve packing DVD from JumpShack, very little effort used to close (keep in mind I am not a rigger). rm
  24. this is what I found. my point was...high front riser pressure is no big deal just get the right risers. rm
  25. funny, my VX opens nice and who cares about high riser pressure - no big deal with long risers. rm
