    So now that we've drifted from the original purpose of this thread - to give suggestions and explain why our prefered martial arts is the one we'd suggest - and gone on to grade school antics of "I can beat you up...," can we get back on track and help Viking (and maybe others who are looking to get into another form of martial arts) with some valid suggestions as to styles, etc?     Nope...didn't demo any of my current gear. Bought it when I was just off student status. Now that I know about demos, when I do replace my gear, I will be demoing first. Life is short!     Viking, I studied Uechi-Ryu Karate. It's full-contact, close up fighting. Figured if I was going to be fighting, it'd be close up. (Currently dojo searching again. ) Best suggestion I can give you is go to different dojo's around your area and see which one you like and what "fits" you. What works for me or Tonto or Nightengale or....may not work for you. Make sure you visit the dojo's while a class is going on and see if they'll let you participate for a class or an "intro" period (usually 3 classes). If you like it and it works for you, study it. If not, find something else. I would suggest making sure that it's full-contact. If you're always pulling your punch in class in a real fight you'll probably do the same and get your ass handed to you. Life is short! Break the rules! Forgive quickly! Kiss slowly!     I don't have any ratings nor have I practiced something like this. I'd like to say that I'd go as low as I could without jeopardizing my life, however, in an actual situation like that, I don't think my skillset is good enough to be able to get to someone although I'd try my hardest.     Totally depends on the service that I receive. Good service: Pizza delivery - usually a buck or two (i.e. on time and still hot) Sit down restaurant - 15-20% (or more) for good service Hairdresser - between $5-15 depending on what is done and how it looks Coffee place - depends...if it's a mom & pop kinda place, usually $0.50-1.00; Starbucks, etc. - nope. All the typical answers cameup; fireman, policeman, salesman, doctor, lawyer, etc. Johnny was being uncharacteristically quiet and so the teacher asked him about his father. "My father's an exotic dancer in a gay cabaret and takes off all his clothes in front of other men. Sometimes, if the offer's really good, he'll go out to the alley with some guy and have sex with him for money." The teacher, obviously shaken by this statement, hurriedly settled the other children to work on some exercises and took little Johnny aside to ask him, "Is that really true about your father?"     Hey, Justin! I'm on the list, and my motives have nothing to do with "people need to belong to to feel cool is one of them."
