Probably came with risers which did not have RSL loop, or like you said, on the wrong side.

Expectations: Number of Jumps to get a USPA A License
shift replied to reelnoncents's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was typically within 5-10 meters (always short). Then I did a swoop and chug, and landed maybe 1m to the right of my beer -

Finding your canopy with GPS (a test with a map link)
shift replied to Hellis's topic in Gear and Rigging
I found one with 3 months, minimum refill was $25. http://www.freedompop.com/ gives "free" service. But uses Sprint towers (CDMA), so no SIM card. BUT, if you can get a smartphone on their plan (they offer a galaxy S2 for $189) and use it as the GPS, that might work as well. The S2 would be a bit big, but someone might be able to get a smaller phone instead. I was curious how you were going to mount it. On the dbag itself would mean you need to pull the closing pin at the beginning of each day to turn it on. Easy enough. -
Probably already been established, but did the article say it was disconnected? Or did he not have one at all?

Finding your canopy with GPS (a test with a map link)
shift replied to Hellis's topic in Gear and Rigging
By that I mean I could see being required to pay a monthly fee because we "might" need it later, vs just paying when we need the service. If you dont pay the monthly fee, you dont get the service when you need it. Or, if you prepay for a SIM, it would expire in a month or two. I really like the idea for those in wooded areas, or with tall fields. I live in the desert though, makes finding a canopy much easier :) -
Finding your canopy with GPS (a test with a map link)

So is the cost per unit when you order 100 make it worthwhile you think? But if there is a monthly cost for the service would be annoying to me. Unless they charge you a flat rate of $X per sms when you need it. Dont know how things are in Sweden, but here in the states it isnt uncommon to charge you a lot before you need something because you MIGHT need it someday. I really like the idea though, hope the rest of your testing goes well! Looking forward to seeing how it all goes. -

What was the cost of the unit? Is there a fee for the SMS feature? I assume it requires a cell connection... -
Expectations: Number of Jumps to get a USPA A License
shift replied to reelnoncents's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I applied for mine around 40 jumps (took my time finishing the paperwork). about 3 months, with 30 mins in tunnel. A couple other guys at the DZ finished in about a week with the minimum 25 dives. -
Okay, I get it now, you're really just guessing and have no actual facts about this subject. Yes, if you paraphrase a couple words out of every sentence it would appear so.

Neat

White reflects all colors in the spectrum, which reflects none. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black, this is what I mean when I say absorbs. This would mean the fabric would heat/cool more dramatically. Possibly effecting the porosity. As mentioned, ZP is heat treated. I dunno how much the sun is going to affect it, but I dont see it helping any over a white canopy.

I jump a neon yellow/black/white canopy, and all I can tell you is that compared to the "white", the rest of the canopy looks brand new! I also jump wearing a neon yellow helmet and shirt, and I get comments all the time about people being able to spot me super easy :)
-
Why do you think that? Black absorbs sunlight (think of a black car on a sunny day). Makes sense. But it looked like you really liked red, and personally I would chose it over black :) It would also be harder to see imperfections in black, such as a small hole or debris. Also, black is hard to keep clean (at least black cars are).
-
I like either of the last two. I think the sun would have more of an effect on the black skins. I'm also a fan of having asymmetrical colors, makes identifying the left/right quicker (think line twists or a big pile of canopy on the ground). I think this looks nice as well, more sporty to me (see attachment).

Stolen Gear - What would you do?
shift replied to kmills0705's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Was there a police report filed when it was stolen? Call the cops. Let them know it was stolen, and you know where it is. If the new seller is innocent he should be willing to work with police to find out the real perp and have them prosecuted. If they are try to hide it, they are guilty too and should be charged with receiving stolen property. The diablo may not be worth much, but where is the rest of the gear? How many rigs are going to go missing from this dz? Maybe your ex had the means to buy another rig, but some other unlucky jump jumper might not, and it could take away their means to pursue jumping. -
Question About Wing Loading and Experience
shift replied to iinastynateii's topic in Gear and Rigging
I recently went from a canopy loaded at 1:1 to 1.13:1, and it was a very noticeable difference. Canopy flies much faster than my old one, and is much more responsive. I recommend staying on a 170 while you get current (which you said you were planning to do), then talk to you coach/instructors about downsizing. They should be able to help you determine if a 150 is a good idea for you. Also, you can always rent one and try it out (or demo from PD), before you buy. You said you werent interested in swooping or high performance landings, so what is making you think you want a smaller canopy? Also keep in mind that a 150 sabre2 is going to be a lot different experience than a 150 stilleto. -
I think you got a great plan. Tunnel time is a great resource for anyone, not just new jumpers. Also, getting more experience before taking a break is a good idea. As for equipment, skydive spain will probably have everything you need included in the cost of your AFF course. Call them and make sure.

I completed mine in about 4 days of jumping, over a week long span. Didnt jump every day as the DZ didnt have enough to do loads every day (slow time of the year). Every weekend would be fine, every other weekend probably less ideal. They usually have a time limit between your levels, a month I think. You probably dont want to space it out that much.

congrats. you're doin awesome.

Did you call them? What did they say? Im no expert, but I play one on the internet. From what Ive gathered, going slightly smaller should be alright for belly flying. If you are free flying, you might need to be wary of things being too lose and opening prematurely. A J1KS is sized for 170 F111, a J1KL is sized for 190 F111. It sounds like you might already be at on the smaller end of your limits. I would ask some riggers or coaches at your DZ for a more thorough opinion. Chances are, you need to downsize your container.

When people ask me about skydiving, I always say "if youre thinking about it, just do it. You wont regret it." I never let "I'm scared" be the excuse I dont do something. Especially when countless others do it on a regular basis and its proven to be safe when done correctly and responsibly. If you dont know how to control your canopy, you need to learn. And you do that by skydiving, and taking canopy courses if you need to. If the issue is money, its understandable. If you are passionate enough about something you always find a way. Whenever I am debating if I should try something I always tell myself that I never want to look back when its too late and think "I didn't even try..."
