  1. I absolutely hate this saying or joke or "rule" or whatever it is. My fiance and I moved out to the dropzone together, and all of the guys love telling me this(as well as making crude jokes about trying to get her into bed). Not sure if they are joking half the time. But that mentality is so disrespectful of the relationship. I am to the point that I am always going to be at my fiances side if she is drinking because I dont trust most of the guys here. Its kind of ridiculous honestly Carpe Diem, Even if it kills me -- "Dead Poet's Society" "Are you getting into trouble over there?" --- "Nothing that I'm going to admit to!" ____________________________________
  2. I got into the air for the first time in 7 years yesterday... and my SO made her first tandem! She rocked it. After landing she described the freefall as "Really peaceful"... all of the Instructors looked at her and said "Thats not how I expected you to react... Natural born skydiver right here!" I am so excited about this. This weekend was the first weekend out there. We had a good day yesterday but we were on a weather hold all day today and ended up closing and having a bar b que around 3 or so. But all in all it was a good weekend. 3. I cant even begin to express my happiness at the moment. I have been working for so long, to no avail, to get back to the skydiving community. I am ecstatic to announce that I got a full time position as a packer with Skydive Spaceland - Dallas. I still have a long way to go on this adventure but I am finally able to say: At long last. I have missed you so much, and I am back. 4. After I finish the home study course and have prepared for the knowledge portion, I am taking the Paraconcepts rigging course later this year. 5. I am about to start Dan Poynter's Rigging Course and I was wondering if anyone knew a place that I could get retired gear for cheap just to practice on. I don't want to put the money into an Airworthy rig for this purpose. I'm looking for Modern style sport rigs, a retired main and a retired Reserve. Preferably not an old Racer I'm in Dallas, Tx if that is relevant. 6. I live in Dallas. Have been out to SD Dallas quite a few times. Its roughly an hour drive from the airport. Carpe Diem, Even if it kills me -- "Dead Poet's Society" "Are you getting into trouble over there?" --- "Nothing that I'm going to admit to!" ____________________________________
  7. This is exactly what I was going to say. At all of the DZs I have ever been to, there was a no open containers on the DZ until the beer light came on. Seems like a pretty standard rule. 8. I grew up around the sport. My dad and I traveled all over from DZ to DZ from the time I was about 4 or so. Made my first jump at 7 years old and never second guessed the awesomeness of the sport. 10. That is the bomb! why do you think that the oldtimers are always on the sunset load. It is kinda tricky to pass a lit joint in FF though. ;-) take care, space Which is why CRW was invented! That actually makes sense. People flying big, docile canopies side by side puffing on a joint, or blunt, whichever they prefer I guess... Better have a zippo with you because lighting that bitch under canopy would be hard as hell with a bic! Now my next question would be: Whats the penalty for dropping it? 11. Ive been hearing alot about people lighting up and smoking a joint on the way down at Sunset... Is that really common? I feel like that could prove dangerous, Especially under a HP Canopy.. 12. It's too bad it has to be that way. I hope you understand where he is coming form, though. His parents created a broken home for him and now his dad has started a family with another woman. Looking at is from his perspective, I can understand why he might not have that "connection" with you. If his mom had been in the picture I might agree, but the last time she saw him he was 5 years old, since then, no calls, no letters, no nothing and my in laws in live in the same town as her. Even when he was there all of last summer, she made no attempts to see him... I am the only "mom" he has known. I potty trained him, I saw him ride his bike for the first time, I held his hand the first day of kindergarten, I have done everything for him that a mom should do.... I am the kid in question here.... My name is Joey, Misty (mamajumps) is my ex step mother, and I would like to share my side of the story here. Granted, this post is hella old (I don't even know how I stumbled across this to be honest) but I feel like I need to address this. Its not that I hated her. Granted, we didn't get along too well and there was alot of struggle between us. I was an angry, confused, and hurt little kid. It is true that my mother wasn't there much. But I did have very clear memory of her and I didn't understand the situation at the time. So I was angry and confused about that (I would like to add here that I found a box of letters that my mother had sent me through the years that I was never told about). I was never in a stable environment. I never was able to keep friends because we were constantly moving around. I was picked on and bullied excessively, both at school, and at home by my sister. My sister was ruthless. It was always a power struggle between us, and constant fighting. I was the oldest but she was the princess. I will say that a lot of the problems that Misty and I had weren't because of our relationship. Sure, there were things about the household that I didn't like: Constant yelling, Nobody ever listening to my side of things, constantly getting yelled at and in trouble for things I didn't do ect ect... All normal things for a family with 4 kids. But I always felt like the outsider, and I always felt like I got singled out quite a bit, and my sister made damn sure of that. Of course, My sister was Misty's first biological kid so more often than not Misty would take sides with her and because of that nothing ever seemed fair. I know Misty loved all of us. I know she worked her ass off to be the best mom she could be. I am also well aware of how hard it was for her to try to raise 4 kids mostly on her own, Dad was there... but not really. He was always off doing his thing while we were at the house. But I absolutely loved it when I would get to go with my dad. It was a break from all of the bullshit. My "hatred" toward her was mostly the result of bottled up anger and confusion and frustration that had to be aimed at something because I didn't know how to deal with it in a healthy manner, and she just happened to be in the cross-hairs, she was my scapegoat for all of my problems. For the most part, I was pretty unfair to her from the beginning. Now with that being said, she did and said some pretty fucked up shit to me through the years. I wont get into too much detail there but it wasn't all one sided at all. Our relationship was problematic from both sides. I'm not sure what her issue was, or if it was just a response from dealing with my shit for so long. I don't know. I don't really care at this point.... I know none of you guys really care about this, but I wanted to type it out and get it off of my chest just to feel better. I would also like to admit that my relationship with my current step mom wasn't much better until after I moved out of my parents house, and for a lot of the same reasons. 17. It's not like men change, either. We want what we want, day in, day out. what do we want? boobs when do we want them? now, later, tomorrow, yesterday... As Warren Beatty said to Halle Barry: "I was hoping for sooner." Halle Barry's boobs? huh? Where? sorry, I have selective reading. 18. I was at the DZ in Lake Wales Fl in 2003 when Columbia blew up. Feb 1, 2003. I would have been 7. I was playing around the packing mat, probably playing Mrs. Pac-man eating a frozen push pop when I saw it happen on the TV that was in the hanger. I cant believe that was 13 years ago. I cant imagine how you feel with Challenger being 30 years ago. 20. Great advice! Thank You. I have lived on dropzones off and on from age 3 until I was about 16 Dad being a TI, AFFI, Videographer, and Rigger; and I a packer during the summers. I can honestly say it was the only time when I was truly happy. If I do decide to come back to the real world, I have a college level sales and marketing education (not a degree but enough knowledge to create a nice career if I wanted to) so I do have a career-path to fall back on if I need to. I am just tired of the 9-5 grind. I feel so stagnant, unhappy, and find myself longing for the skydiving community. Im excited to give in and see if I will truly like it. 21. Well, as far as rent goes, a room on the DZ is included when I go down there to work. As I said, I will be a heyboy and a packer. Mostly just the Heyboy duties for the most part. I am lucky enough to stay on my parents health insurance for the next 6 years. (Step Mother is an attorney and their benefits extend to children under 26). So that being said, I would have to be making $300 for comfortable eating per month, $30 for motorcycle insurance, and probably about $50 per month on gas for the bike(assuming most of my time is spent on DZ). Everything else I make will go into savings and toward my riggers ticket this year. As I said, I don't plan on jumping until next season once I am current on packing again, have my riggers ticket and have more savings than I currently do. Then I will relocate to a higher volume DZ and pack full time, and at that point I will be putting as much into savings and jump fund as I can, but I will have enough savings to cover whatever rent I may have next season in the case of bad weather or something. I feel like I am in a good position to do this.
