I honestly don't remember my reaction to Lewinsky. My reaction on hearing Bush had smoked pot was one of almost total indifference, my opinion of him is so low that there is little that can make it lower but that really is not the point I am trying to make. My point is that by bringing up something that is heavily in the news the person who was starting this thread was not necessarily starting a 'bush bash' thread as you assumed. Simple as that. I'm not sure what question is it I am meant to be answering. I thought that someone starting a thread on how the POTUS had been caught on tape declaring drug use was not "just another Bush bashing thread". This is a legitimate concern about the illegal activites of the President is it not? If someone had described Clinton's extra curricular activities with Lewinski as "just another Clinton bashing" it would be laughed off. . I really don't give a fuck one way or the other about George and his drug habits or lack of them, I do however find it annoying that people can't bring it up without someone calling Bush bashing. Tangent: In the UK this is also the case with older bikers becoming a dangerous group. The reason for this is that these guys learnt to ride 20 or 30 years ago on bikes that were a far cry from those we are riding today. They then stop riding, have a family and then decades later yearn for some excitement and go out and buy a new bike. We call them the back-to-biking group. So they haven't ridden a bike for 20 yrs and have gone out and bought a Honda Fireblade becuase it is cool and they used to ride 900 CC bikes back in the day and then, lo and behold they are in over their heads and fuck up. It would be like someone doing 100 jumps in the sixties then going out tomorrow, buying a nice shiny new rig and jumping with no retraining. Unfortunately it leads to deaths. I also agree that what happened was different from the actions between an older man and a younger girl. Doen't make it right - this kid still had his childhood taken away early - but it is different. He is a victim but I don't think he has undergone the same violations as would have been the case with a girl. It sounds like this happened on a number of occasions and unless he was 'up' for it this couldn't have happened. I in no way condone this activity but it is different. Also consider that sex with a 16 yo in the US is considered paedophilia or statuatory rape but in the UK, where the age of consent is lower, it is not. Are Britains perverts if they have sex with a 16 yo? What about the Dutch, where (correct me if wrong) the age of consent is 12? I also think that in the UK, but again may be wrong, that there is no age of consent for boys, only girls. This does not excuse this womans actions again as she abused a position of authority.
