  1. Any particular reason for wanting this info? I saw a guy under a snivelling reserve which popped at around 80-100 feet. He did flare but still hit the ground like a ton of shit. He was lucky and walked away. There are so many variables. Are you pulling at terminal? Are you chopping a main with a skyhook at 200 feet? Here's an idea. You could take it lower and lower and see if you make it and when you don't we will have a definitive answer - for you, under your reserve at least. I wouldn't however recommend this approach... 2. Are you responsible for their bad body position on exit? No. Never heard of this and it should have been made clear before you started, as Billvon said. Fuck em - what are they going to do, sue you? CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  3. I personally think your questions lies at the heart of the argument for allowing guns - i.e. you really don't know who might be 'packing heat' and who isn't, especially in areas where concealed carry is allowed... Doesn't answer you though. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  4. My view is that wherever you are in the world you should be able to say 'Hello' and 'Thank You' if nothing else. A little effort in these places gets a lot of reward. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  5. The second guy I get but the Police Chief that was shot in the head was a Darin case? Not sure I get that. Are you suggesting that everyone killed by a gun leaves the gene pool better off? CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  6. I'm not sure wht you would buy it. What point are you trying to make? There was a headline in the paper the other day: "Man found 8 days after earthquake hits China" - would that make a good T-Shirt? I prefer "Fat kids are harder to kidnap" CJP Gods don't kill people. 7. Hey Matt My mate Oli was the first at the scene of the fatality in Perris a few years ago. The individual (I think it was a guy) spiralled in from about 250 feet after unstowing his brakes late after flying back from a long spot. The effort he saved himself after opening cost him his life. I agree with you that until you have performed your checks you don't know if you have a working parachute. Finding out that you don't is not something you want to be dealing with at under 1000 feet. Anyway take care mate, be good to jump together some time. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  8. I have had a few brake fires. Once you know what the situation is they are reasonably easy to fix, especially with larger and more docile canopies. I know students who have cut away for less and you did well for working it out, with the help of your instructor. Hopefully you have debriefed enough to know what to do if it happens again. The reason you may not have had many replies is that whilst this seems like a big thing to you, and is in terms of the situations you have had to deal with, it is fairly straightfoarward and did not result in any injuries - don't be deterred from posting! For the first live advert in many years in the UK they really have picked quite a challenging topic - Will they pull it off? I assume so but oit should be fun to watch and great for the profile of the sport... CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  11. It is pretty hard to rate a DZ that you haven't even jumped at. I picked a location in Spain for a holiday close to a different DZ from my usual haunt (Empuria). They seemingly jumped every day. I e-mailed them a few times to ask about some Free Fly coaching and got no response. Eventually I got an e-mail just before I left saying they were jumping on the Thursday and Friday that week. I rocked up at just before nine on the Thursday. Firstly it was hard to work out where to go as there was not a sign in sight. Nor was there a single person or even any aircraft that I could see. I wandered around for about 15 minutes and eventually bumped into two guys. They were friendly enough when I approached them - I asked if they were jumping and they said 'at the weekend' - I said, what about the students you were meant to have today and got a simple shrug. I then left somewhat downhearted. All in all a major disappointment to not even get a single jump in (Saturday it rained and so I didn't even bother). I wouldn't mind if I hadn't expected more. The location would be awesome to jump with beach landings but as I will never return I will never get to see it from the air. Just goes to show that you really can't beat Empuria Brava for your fully rounded skydiving experience...

  13. How far can you take this argument? Could we breed humans to hunt specifically, if they never lived in the wild? Just a hypothetical question of course. CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  14. I watched 'Louis Theroux's African Hunting Holiday' on BBC2 the other night. It features the inimitable Louis Theroux exploring the world of African Trohpy hunting. A brief explanation: Several farms in Africa have now turned themselves into private hunting lodges. They breed animals with the express purpose of killing them for sport. These animals range from Warthogs, Zebra and Impala all the way up to Lions and even Rhinos. Most of the clients come from the US and they pay per kill. A lion will set you back US$50-100k and an impala about US$2,000. In some cases when the animal is killed the meat is given to local villagers. I thought that the show was incredible, but most stuff Louis Theroux does is. It was obvious that he found it distasteful but he seemed to be trying to understand, although he was unable to make a kill himself. I have done a bit of shooting, mainly pheasant and rabbit, but never just for the 'sport' of killing. I don't get the idea of shooting something so you can sit next to it for photos and people describing dead animals as beautiful makes my skin crawl... I am not sure that breeding lions just to kill them is ethical but on the other hand some of the species they are 'selling' have been bought back from the brink of extinction just to be hunted... I would be interested in your thoughts on this. You can see the whole show on BBC iPlayer: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/page/item/b009sj0c.shtml?src=ip_potpw And clips on http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/noise/?programme=louis_theroux CJP Gods don't kill people. 18. It's something I go through alot. I have a two year old and a 9 week old. I don't jump as much as I would like but still love it. The thought of leaving my kids to grow up with no dad is heartbreaking and one I hope that never happens. If I die will it have been worth it - I think not. But then the same could be said for riding my bike, or driving my car. I have decided to keep jumping and do everything in my power to be safe - I just think I would be one miserable bastard if I avoided all the risky things in my life. I may revisit this at some point in the future but who knows. If my wife asked me to stop however it would be a very different thing. I am 90% sure I would stop if she asked. A friend of mine's wife asked him to chose between BASE and her and their daughter and he chose them. If you want to be happy then you need to consider their happiness as well as your own. 22. OK will do... http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/glance/tables/frmdth.htm Mmmm - they quote 28,663 deaths from firearms on there. I can see why you thought I had the numbers wrong... CJP Gods don't kill people. People with Gods kill people
  23. Wow - 247 deaths and injuries. In a country of over 5 million people. Staggering. Especially compared to the 52,447 violent gun injuries and the 28,663 deaths in the US in 2000 (couldn't find later stats). Wow - you've really given me something to think about.
