Fair warning - try at your own risk. This is not meant as a "how to pack your canopy" tutorial of any kind. Two potential suggestions: 1. Roll the end cells the other way and tuck them into the middle cell. My fiance' does that on her Sabre1 (non-psycho packed) and it actually snivels. Heading performance seems to deteriorate a bit though, so perhaps not the best idea on a highly loaded canopy. 2. If that fails, get your rigger to sew a pocket on your slider. I have one on my Sabre1 and it gets 800 ft snivels.

HOW DARE YOU INSULT THE ONE TRUE RIG! on a more serious note... Icarus reserves are bad?
-
I vaguely remember the manual mentioning something about the risk of headphones accidentally unplugging as a reason why you just should not use a flysiht as an audible. At any rate, the manufacturer advises against it, probably a bad idea? But then again, you're a grown ass man at this point. ... and swooping is a bad idea too...
-
Those are some pretty lofty accusations. Could you attach some names to the ambiguous references?
-
Of course I do. Let me just remind y'all that the title of the post wasn't "look at that awesome shit !" Posted the video to get feedback. Some people are educated enough to be able to give that said feedback. The volume of "feedback" for you to get is so large that you should get a coach to explain how to do what you want to do from the ground up. You do pretty much everything inefficiently, so my advice is take a long step back, and take a class with someone that has taught a bunch of people and a track record in both doing and teaching. Whoever taught you thus far didn't get very far with you...

As mentioned, I'm no swooper. But even I can point out a few things that you did that were wrong in that video. It was very sloppy, and I think you know that. I think your gut reaction of going back to the real world is probably your best bet. Go and get coaching from a non-internet someone that knows their shit and has some medals and teaching experience to prove it (PD canopy courses?). Random "awesome swooper" at your home DZ will probably be hit or miss. That'll be way more constructive than having ten people debate whether loosening your chest strap is beneficial if you don't put your slider behind your head (it is, but less than if you do put your slider behind your head), and ten more telling you how much you suck and that you're definitely going to break yourself or something.

Full disclosure - I'm not a swooper. But I have taken a few canopy courses and thought about doing riser turns at 1.35. What discouraged me from doing them until one more downsize was the last, "advanced" canopy course I took my coach told me that building up enough speed in an efficient swoop on a lowly loaded canopy leads to a natural positive recovery arc (you pop up... and then have a shitty landing). This became very evident from videotaped landings of people in the course. So I'm waiting to get to a wingloading where I have a more neutral recovery arc before giving learning to work with front risers a more honest shot. btw. if your profile info is correct skow - your pilot is loaded at nearly 1.7.

Unless you jump where there is a lot of sand, I don't know that cleaning the housing is recommended unless there is an issue. Studies I've seen show that a light lube on the cut-away cable, especially the ends where it passes through the 3-ring loop, can significantly reduce pull force. Exercising the three-rings means to twist the rings enough for the riser fabric to flex substantially a few times to help avoid the riser from taking a set, which can cause delayed release. I know of one case where a friend of mine had to wipe her hand across her three-rings after a chop to get them to release. That's a funny thing - I was told it was the rigger's job to clean out housings every repack in NE USA, far from any sand. Meanwhile in the Western USA (where there isn't much grass...) a different, also well established rigger with a large operation clearly thought otherwise with someone I know. I had my rigger repack her rig (it was that time of the year), he came back and said she had a really hard pull because of shit lodged in the cable housings. So if it's your job to repack someone's reserve, clean the damn things with a pipe cleaner? Please?

Really? That's encouraging. Anyone with an infinity with black hardware that's seen some action already?
-
Is black hardware made of a black metal or just coated with something? Can someone post the wear on the hardware after a few hundred jumps? Is it more abrasive to the white loop on the risers?

Cross Keys. If it still hasn't folded (check with them after Dec. 22nd). There was also one that was still open in upstate in the adirondacks last year. But really the NYC area jumpers take vacation time in the winter and go to Florida, Puerto Rico, Mexico, etc.

Can you post a picture follow up with what you do with S-biners? Someone's gonna ask...

I have it from a reliable source that guys that fly Squirrel and Phoenix Fly have small penises. Meanwhile Tony is as hung as Jarno, Matt Gerdes and Scotty Bob combined.

It would be really cool if the option were offered. That is all...

I lurve my Havoc (full disclosure, bought second hand, initially built for someone with more of a gut than me) ...but on a plane ride up a couple of weeks ago I noticed it ate half of my cutaway handle. Which surprised the shit out of me. More surprising was I couldn't get the fucker out. It was literally jammed. I couldn't force it further in, I couldn't force it further out. I had to unzip my fucking suit in the airplane at 10k and wiggle the fucker out. To date I have no idea how that handle made its way into that hole. It took a ton of effort to get it to move in it...

New Women Skydiver with Contacts
lyosha replied to skydivemermaid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My fiance (in the same shoes as you) used to use these for forever: https://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/peerser-goggles-3408 ... until she lost them. Walked into our local gear store and bought a pair of these instead: http://www.bobster.com/riding/goggles/crossfire-small-folding-goggle-anti-fog-clear-lens.aspx# ... and likes them even more. Or you could just get a full face helmet ;) -
By the way this video should be included in this thread. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTpW9QeZxaM The reason it takes the jumper 25 seconds to cut away is because his cutaway handle got eaten by the suit (and he rips the yellow cables by feeling and hand).
-
So what should I ask TonySuits/Squirrel/Phoenix Fly to do to make sure I am on the lower end of the probability of getting my handles swallowed?
-
How is this for headsup: don't jump a suit design that can swallow your reserve handle. I can't for the life of me understand why so many people take this risk and buy these kinds of suits. Also, why not just unzip the suit to get access to the handle again? Preferably while still under canopy. Don't cutaway until you have access to both handles... first jump basics. Says the suit jammed his reserve handle in place with some sort of cord that connects zippers. No clue what all of that means. Which wingsuits are the ones that swallow handles?

Heaven forbid your AAD weighs 200 grams too much! That's a pretty bold and general statement. Care to comment on what logic led to it? Because I can provide some counter examples where it wasn't...

Vigil as well. Mine is set to fire at 150 ft higher than standard pro firing altitude.

No, nor is that a realistic expectation. Generally you would look for ways to reduce, not prevent gun crime. This one I agree with. I just don't think the answer can be found on the far left or far right. My position is that in choosing a side I'm going to protect gun rights because I don't think that stripping them away will solve anything. There are an estimated 200 million guns in America owned by an estimated 60-65 million people. Personally, I think the real number is twice that much. If you ban all guns in America, completely disarm the country, and make everything illegal, there are still 200 million guns out there. Most people will not comply, so those guns will be stashed here and there, and steadily people will get caught with them and the prisons will become inundated with otherwise good law abiding people who became a nonviolent criminal over night because they disagreed with a law that violated their constitution. Even if I played along, my approximately $25k collection of firearms becomes illegal and I just hand it over to be melted down without compensation? This is a strawman. No-one is seriously suggesting a total gun ban. There is a lot of middle ground between the totally ineffective system we currently have that fails to keep guns away from people who shouldn't have them (convicted felons, the mentally disturbed), and a total ban. Canada and Australia... have not banned guns, but they do a far better job of preventing gun crime than we do. The USA has the worst record of gun murders of any first world nation. And that is NOT because Americans are just nastier people than Australians, Brits and Canadians. And if you REMOVE DETROIT, CHICAGO, NEW ORLEANS, WASHINGTON DC. We drop to almost the bottom of that list. So we should just ban those cities right?? Maybe raze them and start over? Its not a problem of the tools used, its a society and mental health problem. I don't think that's accurate. If you remove the states that don't have any common sense gun regulation on the books we drop to the bottom of the list. Gun crime is heavily correlated to "common sense" gun control laws such as background checks. Who would have thought - checking if someone was a criminal before selling them a gun would help deter crime?

The NRA’s profit soars as gun deaths mount
