peel and pull the reserve, dont just pull
SanDiegoRW replied to Newbie's topic in Safety and Training
I am a newbie myself, but when I purchased a new rig I opted for a pillow reserve handle and an RSL. I know people with well over 2500 jumps with not one reserve ride. I am not saying I won't need to pull that pillow one day by any means, but what I am saying is when the time comes to pull that thing I am positive that velcro no matter how new is going to lose the fight. Other than that, an accidental reserve ride at 10k feet going 150mph+ is not anything I want to experience. But you know, the cutaway handle is soft and held in with velcro.... as I recall from AFF training the cutaway gets yanked before the reserve in most situations. Yes, the soft reserve handle could burn an extra second and an extra second could cost your life. But. it's a chance I'm willing to take. My life, my choice. -Kenny -
Yes 96. Jumping shoes are always ready to go. I'm trying to do my 100th on Saturday but we'll see. -Kenny

Hey D, it's raining at Zhills right now and its supposed to rain tomorrow too. But they are calling for good weather Saturday through Monday.

I would say it's never too soon to get good coaching. The longer you fly by trial and error the easier it is to pick up bad flying habits. My suggestion is do some jumps flying on your back. That way when you get coaching you are already comfortable off your belly and you won't be so tempted to go back to your belly and cork. It is also really easy to get into your sit from your back. Stay safe. -Kenny

I can barely hold myself in a headdown I'm not trying to stear you around too.

Hold hands on the exit hmmm? Okay I'm taking you headdown this weekend missy. Hurry up and get here so you can make me look bad. I think I'm going ot hit the DZ today before the possible rain. Yep, I am! Zhills here I come. For all of you at work, have fun! hahahaha -Kenny

I will be doing the old 100 this weekend.

With my fallrate I can video a 4 way belly team while freeflying. So best of both worlds.

Yeah as a student I always got end cell closure on the 288. A nice big flare always cleared it. Of course it didn't stall because I was flying a school bus. My 150 has end cell closure now and then but usually clears before I even unstow the brakes. Sorry to hear about the harsh openings. I've had one so hard I got leg cramps and a sharp pain in my eye ball. I hope I never have one again. -Kenny

Ahhh someone did say it. The first one to post actually. But anyway... more beer! -Kenny

You know, my slider design causes the tab to hang out a bit and I have never had any problems. Not to say I never will, but....yeah. I think it depends on how you pack it too. Trash pack and anything could happen. hmmm -Kenny
-
Yes FL is fine...
-
My advice is go jump unless you feel like you are a danger to yourself and others. However, I don't know what has caused you to be so nervous. Your life, your call. -Kenny
-
The slider is there to control openings. After the canopy is opened is serves no purpose to my knowledge. Don't leave the velcro wrapped around the slider when you pack it! -Kenny

Yea... Lights that just turned red I take it out of gear. Lights that I "think" are going to be green soon I just hold in the clutch. But, I've been driving stick shifts ever since I got my license and I have only had my foot slip off the clutch once. It was in my drive way after I had washed it. Yes wet feet. But anyway, the car moved maybe 6 inches and then died. Best bet either way, don't stop so close to the car in front of you at red lights.
-
I think best bet would be to hold your breath as long as possible. But who knows... I'll try it on the way back to San Diego and let you know. -Kenny
-
Well, I made it through airport security with my rig and I'm in Tampa now. woohoo I think I'm going to hit Zhills tomorrow
-
You know I love you Andrea. Okay I'm off to the airport! Wish me luck with the assweed security guys! Later all, see you soon. -Kenny

Yeah we have a port-a-poddy in one of the corners of the living room you can use and plenty of carpet. I'll PM you a phone number just in case something comes up. Can't wait to see all of you there! -Kenny
