Removing Hand Strap for HC3 - for Tonfly box
skymoo replied to skymoo's topic in Photography and Video
Hi all! I've finally received my HC3 box from the guys at Tonfly. It looks nice, but it is VERY tight. I will oven it for a looser fit, and post pictures when all is mounted. The good thing for now, os that it does not leave the buttons exposed at all; a completely closed box. Anyway, I am wodering if any of you have figured out how to remove the handstrap from the Sony HC3 camera (HC-3) in a way that you can install it again. I find it helpful when recording BASE jumps and other instances where the camera is in your hands recording over a huge fall! Let me know your experience with this cheers to all! http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly! -
Yup, you most certainly can - from earlier in this forum: Cheers! http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

So, Colombia is not your first destination when you think skydiving trip... but if you are planning on coming down here, do NOT forget your rig. Since we jump very little down here comparitively, we have to come up with ways to get those planes up in the air. This means getting exhibition jumps and organizing boogies to amazing places where there are no DZs. At the end of the day, we have a blast on and off the DZ. Last weekend we went to a Boogie in Cali, Colombia with sunset jumps into the lake-shore in Calima where we stayed at an amazing party house, chilled on a sailboat cruising the lake in the middle of the night after an amazing dinner - who could ask for more? if you ask me, this beats the rutinary DZ anyday. Some picts are here: http://www.childrenofthesky.com/CaliBoogie01-2007.htm obviously, planning is essential, so you may want to shoot me an e-mail when yuour coming down to hook up into the events held down here. Thought I'd share... tata fo now http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Medusa was on Colombian TV flying his bird-man suit - backwards. The segment is on: http://www.childrenofthesky.com/Caracol.htm Segment 3. I enjoyed all four; a bit of BASE, and all the wacko stuff Medusa is always up to. Thought I'd share this with all http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Aerostore is a good source. Directly from them is another way of doing it - like i did. The problem is they do NOT speak english well, and take their time in answering emails in English. I ordered in spanish/portuguese and got my helmet in less than 2 weeks. My friend in the states went to a Brazilian restaurant and ordered over his cell phone using the waiter as a translator he's like that. Price difference has gone down because of shipping. $220 plus shipping from Brazil (+-$50 in shipping)- $280 plus shipping form Larry (aerostore). I've dealt with both and they are all wonderful people. I haven't bought helmets from Larry - other stuff. Hope this helps. http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

AFF in Brazil, Colombia or Venezuela?
skymoo replied to MiniClaire's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Well, I;m sure miniClaire has taken less than two years to get her answer... but for those in the future looking for skydiving in Colombia, with English speaking instructors and fun boogies... see the contact information on the bottom of the homepage of Children of the Sky www.childrenofthesky.com http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly! -
Hey Angry Peppers! check out the Children of the Sky web-page www.childrenofthesky.com where you can see what we are up to in Colombia! There's some white water rafting pictures in Chile too. Let me know when you get in dude, and I'll show you around, introduce you to the fun crowd, and take you to the mad parties. In Santiago there are a couple of young, fun skydivers as well I can put you in contact with... and for jumping you may go down to Pucon to jump with an incredible view of lakes and volcanoes... sweet. http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Cool! I was gonna say, come down to Colombia and I'll do it for you http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Hey there Betsi! No glue... it looks quite tight but they only secure it with rivets... this from looking at mine. I confirmed it with Kaue over at Rawa. Cheers! http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Rusty, very nice guy at PD, confirms that the 825lb microline lasts longer than the 550lb microline. "they are thinner and have less weave, any nick or scratch percentagewise will wear out the line more" now, the advantage is confirmed to be less drag, but in his words "only the very advanced canopy pilots" have use for this slight difference. I'm sticking to 825s Yup, it took three years to answer this http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Thanks rhys ... I too am inclined towards buying a suit or jacket from the guys that know what they are doing behind a sewing machine more than I do. I fall very fast, and without these wings... tandems are a spec on the TV screen... any more good camera suits / wing jackets you have liked enough to recommend? http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!
-
OK after 3 years of originally posted - it's time to revisit. Which is your prefered Camera Suit / Camera Jacket? which brand, worth it's price? This will really help all of us starting to fly cam with Tandems and AFFs these days... Let's hear it! http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Medusa lauched his extreme segment "Caracol al Limite" on Colombian TV - a total success. Most of the filming was done by himself, Jimmy Halliday, and Cliff Ryder. I thought the final product, edited at a TV station was pretty cool... you can view them here: http://www.childrenofthesky.com/Caracol.htm CONGRATS! http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!

Neoprene Camdom for Sony HC3 - manufacturers
skymoo replied to skymoo's topic in Photography and Video
Thanks, I'm qouting with the guys in Australia a custom made Neoprene for the HC3... I'm telling them to make tons for all of us! If the cost is absurd, I'll go with the stretched TRV camdom. Skydance, Paragear, and competition helmets sell TRV camdoms for $35-$40. Guys at Way Cool will custom make them for the HC3, and were nice enough to quote at $140 plus shipping from Australia... hmmm. The camdom really makes a difference, specially when you can cover the junction of the wide angle and the camera lens - avoiding fogging. Also covering the tape door helps against condensation... so in really humid areas (97% where I jump) it is worth the extra uncomfort you mention. The guys at competition helmets a a zipper for convinience, so you don't have to remove the neoprene to view the LCD screen. Anyway, put your HC3 into its old camdom, and let us all know if it fits in your cookie box! Thanks again PHead for helping out. http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly! -
Neoprene Camdom for Sony HC3 - manufacturers
skymoo replied to skymoo's topic in Photography and Video
Anyone knows who manyfactures the camdoms for the sony PCs - TRV ect... I'd like to contact them to encourage them to make a thin one for the Sony HC3, as camdom + box is what I've found to be the best combo for protection in very VERY humid areas. Although experience has shown me that the neoprene camdom helps against condensation, they are not too popular these days. Where are these manufacturers? http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly! -
OK DSE, first off, great article on that skydiving wedding you shot... very interesting. Well, my HC3 is finally here. Protection box search is coming to an end. Lens is the next step. Questions for DSE and those of you in the know out there: When I shoot with the HC3 I feel closer - have to step back further - than I used to have to with my PC-9, no wide angle attached on either. You write "you don;t really need it" ... but I'm still inclined to get it - given this. Questions: - Where can you get the Xdream lens? - Is .3 too much if you fly just outside a 2-way Freefly formation; would .45 be better? - I found a Raynox HD-5050PRO, 37mm, 0.5x, Super Wide Angle Conversion Lens for $90 which promises to allow for full zoom and no vignette. Would you recommend this lens? It advertises for HD. Is it better than Cookie Composites Liquid (half way zoom, no vignette either since they make it 30 mm, or Xdream's .3x? Will .5 be too little to Freefly inside and outside the formation? I've flown .45 inside freefly just fine; wondering if the new HD - widescreen format and .5X lens will make enough difference/damage that I should go for another lens. - Since last post months ago, is there a better wide angle lens you can recommend for Sony's HC3 HDV camera to take most advantage of its video quality? Looking forward to your comments http://www.childrenofthesky.com Freefly!
