  1. Simon Bones OWNS that look!! Lol - I do have a bat onesie but it has little wings like a wingsuit so I wouldn't dare wear it! I have enough trouble with exits and landings as it is, without adding complications A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr

  3. I didn't really get any adrenaline rush with my tandem jump either and wasn't really sure what all the fuss was about. My first AFF jump changed all that dramatically . It's a completely different perspective because you have much more responsibility for the whole process. Even if you ended up having an instructor pull the pilot chute for you, you would still need to land the canopy yourself. To use a car analogy, it's a bit like the difference between being a passenger in a sports car being driven by a racing driver, and being the driver of the car yourself with an instructor beside you. The instructor can give you some assistance with steering and some advice, but essentially you are in control and you have to do the actual manoeuvres yourself. 4. Yay! congratulations!! Was that a coaching jump? Even once I get my UK A licence, I won't be able to jump with other people apart from instructors and coaches (and possibly C licence jumpers - I need to check at my DZ about that) until I pass my FS1 qualification. Managed another 5 jumps this week and have now passed all my AFF levels (1-8) and have done 4 consolidation jumps so 6 more to go to my A licence
  5. Some of these are incredible, some are just weird - my favourite is the one with the paramedics and the 3D pavement art
  6. Imagine those of us who have that weight "excess" ALL THE TIME! ;) Suck it up! :P Lol - that sodding weight belt will definitely keep me from eating too much chocolate. There's no way I want to be lugging that around all the time.... A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  7. Am I missing something here? Whilst I in no way condone what he did, she doesn't exactly seem to be that bright and possibly has been somewhat economical with the truth? How does somebody manage to fake a prescription for somebody else and get the drugs in the first place? What was she doing taking ANY drugs that she hadn't put in a prescription for i.e. the bit where it says he convinced her she was ill (seriously?) and needed antibiotics (she believes her boyfriend over getting a medical opinion?) and then takes the pill that her boyfriend provides?? What would opinions be if it wasn't an abortion pill he had given her but an ecstasy tablet or some other recreational drug? At what point has she given up responsibility for her own actions? Edit: her own actions and the subsequent consequences A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  8. Thanks guys - our main landing area is a big grassy field, then we have harvested corn fields all around it so the earth is quite soft (if a little spiky from cut corn stalks!). And I hadn't thought about videographers. Definitely a good reminder to keep aware of everyone else as now I'm starting my solo jumps, I may not always be the last one down (though on my huge student 260, I'm not holding my breath on that one ) A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  9. Serious question from a complete newbie - why would you aim to land so close to the tandems and students when you had that whole big field to land in? I'm guessing that students and tandem passengers might also not be very aware of their surroundings so I would have thought it would be safer to give them a lot of space too to avoid the potential of one of them walking in front of you as you land. It looks as though you closed down your options because of where you chose to land, though that doesn't excuse the muppet who cut in front of you! 10. 15 minutes should be ok - I did that yesterday on 2.5 minute rotations and it was fine. I was suffering more after trying to walk some distance with my weight belt on - I hate that thing! At least I get 10 jumps in a row without it now
  11. Seriously??? You're paying someone else to pack for you and they didn't spot something like that and you think it's your responsibility? As an extremely new jumper who hasn't even qualified yet, that's a very scary thought A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  12. Well, I guess no-one who responds to him could say they didn't know what they were letting themselves in for. Spot the control freak!! But as to whether any women would actually bother to email him, is somewhat doubtful I think he kind of missed that point that in this day and age, smart women are perfectly capable of looking after themselves and don't need patronising by someone who thinks he has A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  13. Thanks all. The seller never replied to any of my queries so she's either away or maybe sold it to someone else. I'll keep looking
  14. Your reasoning is similar to mine - taking cases of anything - like the water or beer other people mentioned, is definitely stealing. I would say that's slightly different, in that you've paid for the room and those toiletries are included in the price. If you choose not to use them, that's up to you, but it's not as though you have the option to steal twenty bottles of each (unless you raid the cleaning lady's trolley, lol A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  15. You're referring to something like these? http://www.webofficemart.com/Products/Mini-Moos-Half-and-Half--5-oz--24Box__MMO100981.aspx?ref=google&source=google&utm_medium=shopping_engine&utm_source=google&mkwid=wWoaapIe&pcrid=25412354109&gclid=CKDrqoyIt7kCFXRp7AodoTEAFQ Yes, those
  16. I think possibly you've misunderstood - the mini cartons hold a few ml of milk, so for a normal mug of tea or coffee, most people would use 2. I've edited my post to clarify. A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  17. Because I'm bored with tedious paperwork today...... We have free-vend tea and coffee at work, supplied from vending machines. We also have mini cartons of UHT milk and sachets of sugar supplied for those who bring their own supplies of tea and coffee. I watched someone put some sugar into his tea, then pick up two cartons of milk and walk back towards his desk. No problem with that - then a random thought struck me. If he didn't actually put the milk into his tea when he got back to his desk, but put them in his pocket and took them home instead, would that be theft? He is entitled to take the milk, he is entitled to drink it, is it legally / morally wrong for him to take it home? (I'm not suggesting in any way that he was going to do that, it was just a random thought that occurred to me!!) I have some thoughts on that but was curious to see what other people think (assuming anyone else is also bored ) Edit: Just to add, by mini-cartons, I mean about a couple of teaspoons of milk, not half pints! 18. What's the worst possible thing that could happen there? You have a parachute and you were planning on jumping out anyway. From my perspective, logic has nothing to do with it, this is pure instinct. I have exactly the same reaction at the climbing wall when practising falls of a few metres (lead climbing) when reaching for a clip with slack rope. And I'm literally only going to drop 2-3m, at most 5-6m if my partner has given me some extra slack rope. I have to jump off the wall without thinking about it, if I pause, I cannot physically force myself to let go. The adrenaline rush is exactly the same feeling. And I get the same thing on roller coasters too. I don't know if some people are 'wired differently' which makes the experience different - I know I've read on these forums about people sitting in the carpark too terrified to go and jump at all, and I don't experience that. If I did, I doubt I would continue. And the same goes if I was frightened of landings so spent most of the way down worrying about the last 10 seconds. I'm not an adrenaline junkie, it's fabulous when I'm making my body go where I want in freefall and when I'm flying under canopy but if someone told me tomorrow, "that's it, you can't jump again for x reason", I could easily walk away. 19. You still think there is a "free" world??? There can't be many places left on the planet that aren't spied on in some form or another - maybe under the sea or inside some deep caves! Even the uninhabitable bits are monitored for the resources that could be extracted or to make sure no-one else is encroaching A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  20. Yep, I can do calm in the plane but opening that sodding door turns me to jelly! Up until that point, it's almost "just another plane ride" but once they open the door...... I've got churning in my stomach now just thinking about it, lol. In my grand total of 7 jumps, I have discovered that "he who hesitates is lost" is totally applicable to me So long as I move quickly to the door and just GO, I'm ok, it's when I give myself time to absorb what I'm about to do that it freaks me out. The second I'm out (and hence committed!), I'm absolutely fine. I still have that moment of disorientation until my brain 'un-fries' and I can start processing where I am and what is happening - one of the other students at my dz showed me the sheet of (optional) lessons for consol jumps and I cracked up at the one that said "turn 180 to follow the path of the plane". Plane? What plane? The second I'm out of the door, I completely forget how I got up there A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
  21. Yes, why do you want to know? It has been the case for friends / relatives in more than one major religion that I know of - in 3 cases the relationship did result in marriage, within 10 years, none of the relationships were still going. 22. Does anyone know this make of container? What do you think are the pros and cons? A second-hand one has come up for sale at a reasonable price, and the seller is a similar height/build to me so hopefully it would fit well. DOM 1996, in fab condition RSL fitted Cypres ready I need to find out the maximum volume main that could go into it - the seller doesn't say what canopy she has been using and the container is described as 190/170 which may be too small for a rig I would consider to start with. 23. I guess it depends on how severe your surgery was, whether it affects any other activities you do and how you personally feel about it. We really cannot advise you, you do need a medical opinion because you will need a medical form completing before you jump with that kind of history (or at least, you would in the UK, it may vary around the world). You should also consider whether jumping against your doctor's advice might invalidate any insurance cover You might want to post in the Tandem forum for considerations about the landings. The aim is usually for the tandem instructor's feet to touch down first (so you lift your legs up for landing), but slide landings are also common, particularly if winds are a bit high. Maybe consider the potential to the rest of your life if a landing goes wrong - obviously a risk to anyone who does a tandem jump, but given your surgery, you might be more prone to injury from a hard impact than someone who hasn't had surgery. If you decide the potential risk is worth it, then go back to your doctor and discuss it with him in more detail. Good luck! 24. http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=wuffo I *think* it's derived from "what for you do that?" but could be completely wrong, lol A mind once stretched by a new idea never regains its original dimensions - Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr
