  1. WAIT?!? WHAT?!? BEER! Congratulation for dealing with your mal! :) I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  2. Thank you, pchapman. Your assumption is correct, I use it on a wrist mount and I didn't think about the possible influence of dynamic pressure (you'd think that altis are more resilient to those changes and measure only static pressure more effectively?). My problem is that every single jump I make (plain belly, right, some beginner's RW), is full to those spike, and as you say there isn't much data left. They're ALL very wide continuous oscillations between super-slow speeds and super-fast speed. I'd like to answer the simple question "what is my freefall average speed?" but go figure with those very noisy charts. The problem of relative wind, I didn't consider. This weekend I'll give it a try and use it in my helmet as audible, to see if it logs cleaner data. I barely look at it in freefall anyway, but I'm really going to miss it under canopy. Or maybe see if I can stick it under the sleeve of my jumpsuit and uncover it once under canopy. FOR SCIENCE!!:D Hopefully Alti-2 will tell me if those noisy charts are somehow normal, I'll post the answer if/when I get one. 3. Sounds exactly like my Saturday, except points were less than 14 for us but still around ~9, those four 4ways jumps were my "welcome" to a DZ I had never been there before and even better... I was the
  4. Thanks, I just shot them an email, I'd have preferred a quick experience from another person that has the same product, but... hey! This works too. :) I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  5. Nobody out there to tell me if those logs look normal or if my 3 is a bit off? Either that or I deserve the most boring/most useless thread award! :) I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  6. First Level Check or First Level Verification. Whatever First Level means, no idea on that one... but that's it, literal translation. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  7. Yes, and the next 3-year check was done on 24-01-07 (6 months after what it should really have been, but I guess that's quite common since there were all the other 4-months repacks and check in between). P.S. RIPIEGATO SU CONTENITORE = repacked in container... I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  8. LOL, the rigger must be a doctor in his spare time, the hand-writing is just as bad. By the way, just to be picky-picky, trimestrale = three months. Triennale (which now I see is what's written there) = three years, but again, just another maintenance cycle, seems to me. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  9. The one I'm not exactly sure about is the one at the bottom of the first image, on 23-10-03, where the printing are completely faded and the hand-writing says something I honestly can't read to save my life: TRIG???LE No idea what that means. All others seem regular maintenance. I'd ask about that entry, if I were you. Then feel free to post his response and I'll let you know if it makes sense. Yes, riparazioni means "fixes", but I don't see any entry about them. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  10. Which one are you referring to? Ripiegamento simply means "repack". I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  11. Yes, but the exact meaning of what's written in the entries is not. :D And if you don't know italian, there is no way to know if the reserve has been rode or not... unless maybe you count the day between repacks and hope the guy didn't have perfectly scheduled reserve rides. LoL. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  12. verifica trimetrale = threemonths periodic check verifica quadrimestrale = four months periodic check. idoneo = passed, good to go. Ass. Cypres = I guess it's cypres sent to maintenance (ass. = assistance, maintenance) I can't really read the stamps as they are faded, but the last two, on 24.01.07 and 24.05.07 say: - 24.01.07 - Three months check - passed - 24.01.07 - Four months packing - 24.05.07- 120 days , expires on 22.09.07 Before that I only read "idoneo" which again, means "passed", "safe". It looks good to me, as far as I can tell. And unless it's in one of those very faded logs, I don't see any "ride". Source: Born and raised in Italy. 13. AFF-2... repeated 4 times. Good times. I feel that toward the end I remembered the dive flow of that particular jump better than my instructors. LoL. And.. hey... I have one of those funny "AFF FAIL!" videos to show around (advice: lower your speakers volume): http://flickr.com/gp/104470974@N05/d88224 so I'd say, totally worth it! My instructors and I still periodically laugh at this one, my attempts at AFF2 quickly became a running joke. I certainly made sure to give her a run for my money on this jump! I got full service: dive down at student falling out of control, dock to stop spin and even deploy the parachute for me because I couldn't find the PC. Probably, if we took a groundhog skydiving, it would have been as useful as me on that jump. :P But I didn't give up, my instructors were absolutely great and it all worked out in the end. 14. Yes, totally, go through all your procedure on the ground, think like it was your FJC, my rule of thumb also was "if I can't don and undon my gear wearing gloves, there is no way I can jump it", also, after practicing over and over on the ground, my first 2 jumps with gloves were full altitude solos, so that I could make sure I could touch and feel all my handles if I needed too and that I've had extra time to deal with the problem if I felt like the gloves were in my way, before getting at 4k and having bad surprises, mainly because a (much) more experienced jumper pointed to me that he thought those gloves were a little loose on me, so I wanted to take every extra precautions. 15. Hello Folks, I have been jumping with an N3 for a few jumps now and I noticed that it tends to log freefall speed that are, well, quite larger than I expected. I am a very thiny guy, I only do belly and belly RW, absolutely no freefly, head down and stuff like that. Everybody complains I fall a bit slow (although for the most part, I think it's psychological, since they see me small and my lack of skill to adjust my freefall with respect to the formation properly just yet, once I sort things out I expect my freefall speed to be just average), but anyway, I'm digressing. If you see one logged jump here as an example: http://jumplog.net/jump.php?user=Daniele%20Tancredi&jumpNo=36 and the jump chart here: http://jumplog.net/profileChart.php?jumpNo=36&user=Daniele%20Tancredi To pick this one, I see spikes of well over 300mph of vertical velocity. Pretty much every jump I do, records speed in excess of 220mph to 250 mph and so on (you can see more jumps if you want, but it's pretty constant), and sometimes it doesn't really seem like a spy but they are quite a few data points logged at that speed. I know those spikes are flukes, they must be, but since I am very unfamiliar with this type of equipment, I wanted to ask: are they common on this freefall speed logger? Do you see them on yours as well? Or there is something wrong with mine in particular? It's the first time I use this type of things applied to skydiving so I really don't know the characteristics and what to expect. Thanks a lot for any reply you could provide, I just want to make sure my N3 works and logs fine! 16. I wear a pair of Neumanns. I love them, they are super comfortable to wear all day on the ground (although I didn't try packing with them), very nice touchy sensation and quite warm (although the top is not super zero porosity, so maybe a rubber liner if you plan on jumping into crazy cold wind might indeed help). The bottom palm is nice "leatherish" cloth that has a nice grip. Absolutely no problem feeling the PC, touching the handles and using my toggles. Watch out, you want them on the tight side, I bought a pair of small, since I have relatively tiny hands, and I wish I bout the extra-small since they are still a bit large. If you have the chance to try them on first, do it by any mean. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  17. Yeah, I can imagine, when plane were small and formations were harder to build, now the whole story makes a lot of sense. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  18. Gotta love how her breathing, clearing the throat and whispering actually record higher noise levels at the mic than the plane itself. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  19. Thanks for the explanation. makes sense! :) I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  20. One stand-up landing is, however, a requirement on the USPA A proficiency card, as far as I remember. Or maybe the fact of not having a home DZ never allowed him to build personal relationships with other jumpers, enough to realize that there isn't the "cool kids group" in this playground, because we are all "Cool Kids". :) I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... 21. Sorry for asking, but I am unfamiliar with these acronyms. What are SCR and SCS? Thanks in advance! :) I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  22. And she took him back, after all of that? She should have told him to go propose to his coin. I wonder if they had kids because the coin said so. If you break up for completely irrational reasons, be brave enough to never look back. Do it for your dignity, if anything. I'm standing on the edge With a vision in my head My body screams release me My dreams they must be fed... You're in flight.
  23. I'm no expert by any mean, I wouldn't even say that I am decent in knowledge, but shouldn't this be a problem? If the manufacturer recommends a certain maximum size, it means they did extraction tests and so on with a bigger one, and they failed. Why would I expect it to work in my case? That's exactly why they say PD Optimum 126 MAX. If you stuff a bigger reserve, it might or might not work, for sure it is less than ideal, right? 24. Why you don't ask your instructors? They were there, they saw your opening, they know what happened better than anybody can here with a few pics of the sequence. It's particularly hard to judge something like the force of an opening from a bunch of still pictures, I think. Just as an FIY, it might not even have been anything related with the opening itself, it might have been a harness not perfectly fitted to your body (it happens, with rental student gear), or straps way too tight (it happens, when you gear up yourself the first few jumps and you tend to pull all the straps as hard and tight as you possible can), so a perfectly normal opening gave you the impression (and bruises that come with it) of a hard opening. It happens and once you get your own rig, everything will feel soooo much more comfortable. Or it was indeed a hard opening. Who knows? :D But congratulation on your first AFF! 25. I have been to two different DZs and, that different reasonings, they have the exact opposite exit order between free-fliers and belly fliers (of course, wingsuits are always last). Now, I have read the article posted on here, most recently two good ones by Brian Burke that were strongly recommended to me by one of my coaches. http://www.dropzone.com/safety/General_Safety/Implications_of_Recent_Tracking_Tracing_and_Wingsuit_Incidents_938.html http://www.dropzone.com/safety/General_Safety/The_Horizontal_Flight_Problem_935.html All related to the exit order and separation problems. Now, yes, I understand what you're trying to say. At the same time, I am a 35ish jumps skydiver so I will do whatever the rules in place in the DZ I am jumping at say. Those article should be given to the ST&A, maybe, and he should be the one in charge of deciding if actions to change the exit orders are required. From my point of view, I don't know enough to take any strategical decision of that level and I do whatever the ST&A, Instructors, coaches, DZ&Os tell me. When I'll have thousands of jumps and saw my good share of shit happening (hopefully from far enough), then I'll speak my voice. Right now, I say it varies from DZ to DZ because the newly licensed jumper usually doesn't have much decision power.
