I think upholsterers might use something essentially equivalent to E thread, "ticket 69" -- Jeff My Skydiving History

What's your worst ride up to altitude???

A looong time ago a student threw up on me in the airplane. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -
Did I ask you for a gear check?
darkwing replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The last person I sat next to who decided against a gear check in the plane ended up with the main bag dropping on the floor and going out the door. They were absolutely certain that their gear was fine. Please find someone you trust on the airplane. I do believe you should feel free to decline a specific person's offer, but I think you should be able to find someone you trust. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -
This seems to be a big problem on many Z1's I've seen, and the one I owned. I used Shoe Goo to fix it, as have others at my DZ. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Without getting into the construction details of your jumpsuit, it is often possible to alter a suit to make it faster. Check with Tony. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Square Canopy use, non jumping questions. What can they be used for?

sell it to a base jumper. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -
I'm pretty sure that there have been problems even for people who do not stow the excess in with the slink tabs. I agree that in MOST cases, once the slink has set the tabs will stay put, but I recommend that you fix it for sure by tacking the tabs. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I think it was unwise to treat your chest strap that way. You should have had it sewn stiffer if you wanted it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

You could easily have some lycra panels added to accommodate the "growing room" issue. I gather there is no lycra on the jumpsuit now. Ask the mfr what they think about the tightness. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

did you get him to sign your logbook? What is his license? -- Jeff My Skydiving History

how tall are you, how much do you weigh, and what did you ask of the jumpsuit mfr in terms of fall rate? -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I wouldn't recommend tape. I suggest that you just have your rigger tack the tab in place, for any of the types of soft link. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

within the past year at our DZ one was jumped more than once. There is even video of it involved in a three-stack with two crw-dawgs docking on it. The Official Harvest Moon Boogie video from last year has it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Slight amendment to the Aircraft lineup--it seems the Super Otter may be slightly delayed getting released from duty at the Nationals, but we'll have a Caravan and a King Air until the Otter shows up Late Friday or sometime Saturday. Good weather at the Nationals will mean a timely arrival of the Otter. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

the lame on-line database the FAA has doesn't seem to allow searches by seal symbol--only name. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

What happen to Packing Cathy @ z-hills?
darkwing replied to mirage62's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
She was at our DZ, Blue Sky Adventures this past weekend. Packing tandems like crazy. Yes, she is about 8 months along, and doing great. For her view of the great Z-hills debacle, see her website . Or ask her. She is very open. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -
When I hear advice I often ask myself "why does this person give me advice that significantly differs from that of the manufacturer?" Which doesn't answer your question, but it gives you something to shoot back at the person who said it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

"Parachute Landing Fall" ... that special way to land to minimize injury potential. Definitely ask your instructor. A demo is worth a thousand words. If you have jumped, then it is likekly you have been trained to do a PLF, even if you don't know it by that term. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Nice spreadsheet. It is very compact and still very informative. I like the way you track some of the things. I also note you lost a few pounds a while ago.

I pretty much agree with NickNitro. The flare is very mushy by modern standards. You don't get the response during flare that you get with a modern canopy. Flare, and brace for impact. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I have done both. Most recently (last week) I bought a set from PD and relined my Spectre. The price was worth it, since I don't have the rigging facilities I used to. If you have the setup, and the experience, it is pretty easy to make a set from scratch. Those are two pretty big ifs though. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
