I still say it is anxiety, not physics that gave her that impression. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

My 10-way team would benefit from having some video of good teams. Has anyone seen the 10-way on the official Nationals video available from airzonextreme? I'd hate to spend $49 for little or no 10-way video. I have 3 or 4 brief clips of team TFX that are available on the web, but no others. Any other sources would be greatly appreciated. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

According to the PD web pages, the Spectre is "slightly tapered" which by all definitions is not "square". I'd call it slightly elliptical, just to qualify it as not-square, and not-very elliptical. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Ultimately it would be one for the lawyers, but MY reading of the FARs is that there is no violation. They each did have the required equipment. I wouldn't recommend it though. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

it seems unambiguous to me, for example on the Diablo 88 the C lines are 145 mm longer than the B lines. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

why do we not have cutaway/reserve pillows like this?
darkwing replied to Newbie's topic in Gear and Rigging
It is an interesting notion. I'd like to think that easier to grip (and to distinguish from other things) does not necessarily mean easier to snag. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -
Your english is much better than my Ukranian! Just to clarify, are you asking if someone has a description of how to make soft links? -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I was in an 8-way scrambles competition at Lake Wales about 1 1/2 years ago which was scored on the honor system. It worked very well. It was a fun meet though. I don't think it would work well for 4-way. Heck, half the time I do a 4-way jump I can't remember how many times we went through the set. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I wear glasses and strongly prefer my Bonehead Havok to my previous Z1. If I didn't wear glasses I'd get a FreeZR. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

You might try putting a second no-sew trap near the end of the running-end of the trap. I've tried that on the no-sew pack-boy closing tool loops and it seems to work. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

My Pilot 168 (loaded at 1.45) has significantly less front riser pressure than my Spectre 190. I'm not much of a front riser user though, so it isn't an issue to me either way. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

It is interesting to me that many people seem to think riggers want short repack cycles so they can make money. I have been rigging for 25+ years, and have known many riggers. I'm pretty sure that I have never met a rigger that wanted short repack cycles so they could make more money. Nor did I ever meet one who raised his rates when the cycle got longer. While there may be riggers who feel different, I bet they are in the minority. In short, even when I was an active rigger, I wanted longer cycles, and my fee was unrelated to the repack cycle length. I'd be interested in hearing from riggers (not from people who think they know how riggers feel about this). -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Our first year of competition we had a King Air at our home DZ. We were pretty successful in practice at launching the first piece. Going to competitions and jumping the Otter made things seem very roomy. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Lowering the pull force by 5 pounds is something I think you should generally avoid on a main loop... -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Well if you have already bought it what's the point in our feedback? I liked the way my demo flew, but not the way it opened, so I bought a Pilot. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Legalities aside (i'm not qualified to evaluate them), I think this is a great way for generally honest people to clarify the basic important points responsibilities, and procedures. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

OK, physics guy chiming in here. The question is vague enough to merit a vague answer. it takes 10 seconds, which is 1,000 feet. Sure that is a round, rule of thumb, but the devil is in the details. The "real" answer depends on variables including body position, body mass, body shape, exit altitude, and atmospheric conditions. Practically speaking there is no formula that you can plug the numbers in to and get a much better answer. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

the quick answer is that your pc does not seem to be sized out of line for your main. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Huge difference in jump prices
darkwing replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It is called a free market. $15 is a bit higher than I would expect, and $9 is a bit lower. There are many factors that dictate those prices. What were the aircraft? In turbines, a low exit altitude merely displaces a full price ticket, and adds the hassle of a jump run. Generally I'd expect a higher price for a jump out of a turbine and a relatively lower one for a jump from a C-182. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -
It also makes a difference what line it is. The further outboard the line is, the more effect a difference in length will have. Was the replaced line a complete A-B or C-D line? Since you have already replaced it I suspect your question is moot. Have you jumped it? If it flies OK I wouldn't worry about it. After a few jumps check the length again, and maybe do some adjusting. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
