  1. I was at a boogie (WFFC I think) many years ago and there was a 16-way with 8 pregnant women in it. Of course the other 8 were the babies. One woman I met at another time told me her baby had over 200 jumps. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  2. Dooh! I'll admit to idiocy on that. But idiocy becomes me. Fortunately, this dumb mistake was on the ground, not in the air. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  3. A fish scale cannot be correctly marked in Kg. Kg is a measure of mass; fish scales measure force. In order to measure mass you need a balance scale. Since you started getting technical, I'll chime in. A balance doesn't measure mass either. Since it relies on gravity, it measures weight. Take a balance to the moon and see if it reads the same. Nope. Now an oscillating spring will measure mass. that is what the astronauts use when in space. Anyway, scales that measure in kg, or N, or pounds (force or mass) or slugs, are all equally useful, if you stick to using them near the surface of the earth, where g doesn't vary much. Having said all of the above, mostly useless stuff, I can live with N, kg, our pounds on a scale. I'm not keen on the kpf or whatever it is that the cypres people use though. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  4. I agree with Travman. I think your first two alarms are too low. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  5. Talk to USPA. They have experts on this stuff. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  6. I think your question is so vague that there is no useful answer. Can you tell us what you really want to ask? -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  7. I'm pretty sure that neither your face nor your ass are worth saving.. As a teammate, I should know. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  8. I wish i had kept track in my logbooks over 30+ years of skydiving the number of lost shoes by people I've jumped with. Yours is a good one. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  9. No problem. Short & fat and tall & thin, and everything in between-- there is joy in skydiving for them all. You can do any kind of skydiving with any body type. Anyone who suggests otherwise is a weenie. Some things are easier for one type or another, but that is all. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  10. Clean your cutaway cables more often. Use the manufacturers recommended method, not any of the myriad methods that you will hear on this forum. Edit to add: 6 months is far to long to go between cutaway cable cleanings. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  11. As others said, they look too high profile. Skydivers experience much higher wind forces, and generally from a wider variety of directions compared to skiers. Since you have already ordered them, you might as well try them out. Don't say we didn't warn you. If you wear contacts, bring a spare pair. Make sure you snug the strap. edited for typo. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  12. Judging by your profile, you are nearly there. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  13. This is a comparison of apples and oranges. They are quite different canopies. Im pretty sure the resale value on a Spectre will be better than a Sabre I(?). On the slammer note, I have one slammer in 600 Spectre jumps. As said above, ANY canopy can slam you. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  14. It isn't a rip off, it is business. If I was selling you some stock, would you expect me to sell it for a discount on what I paid for it, or sell it for what it was worth? The worth of anything (in terms of selling it) is what someone is willing to pay. I have bought and sold gear. It is each person's responsibility to shop around, and be an informed consumer. I have seen people sit on their gear until it was worthless merely because they couldn't get what it was "worth" out of it. Mandating $3000 for a $1500 rig is not smart for a seller. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  15. Almost any rigging loft would have them or make one for you. Email square1 and Pier and I bet they would fix you up. Just because one isn't listed opn the web doesn't mean they wouldn't get you one. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  16. dude, I'm sorry your dog was sick on your rigs. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  17. I disagree. Without a doubt there are fewer low pulls now then in the old days. While I admid that my old days are different than some (mine old days start in 1973), I saw a lot of low pulls then. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  18. There are some DZ's, and the number is more likely to go up than down, that require an AAD. I encourage you to keep it. Mostly because I think the insurance premium is worth it. I don't even know you though, but I'm pretty sure I'd rather have you live than go in. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  19. Hey, I still think that a blast handle is good! -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  20. I certainly would NOT expect a repack, or anything else. I see waaaayyyy too many people blaming their packer for every stinkin little thing about their openings. I view my packer as a surrogate, who has no responsibility, which probably puts me in an extreme position compared to most jumpers. Of course if they insisted on paying, I would put up a fight, but if they want to claim that they pay for reserve repacks (as some do) I won't prevent them from being able to say it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  21. An interesting notion, but adding complexity can also add other failure modes. I suspect there would be major resistance at the consumer and rigger level to this. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  22. The cypres does not sense g-forces. Also, I'm not sure why high g's would require two hands, since one hand probably didn't help the other get up to the cutaway handle. Are you saying that the spin up made it a hard pull? Do you have rigid housings on your risers? -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  23. parapak, so the rig can flex against your back, as your body flexes. A little slipperiness there is good. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  24. Please tell us what you thought embarrassing or dismaying about it. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
  25. Skydive Coastal Carolinas is a little bit north of Myrtle Beach, across the border into NC. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
