Need good cushion/support boots for jumping

This is interesting. What kind of reserve do you have? Did you really have to take a wrap to take up slack in the steering lines? This should not be the case. Do you have short arms? -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Need good cushion/support boots for jumping
darkwing replied to darkwing's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have a friend, an older skydiver, who is coming off a nasty ankle break (not skydiving related). He is looking for some good supporting and cushioning boots to jump with. I remember the French Paraboots we had back in the 1970's but I couldn't find any of those (at Paragear). Can anyone recommend a pair of suitable boots. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -
Yup, DJ just got back to me, and they have two assortments, each with 12, 1 oz. spools. One assortment is fluorescent, one is regular colors. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Thanks all. Your memories are consistent with mine. The DJ Assoc. website no longer lists the thread, but I emailed them, hoping for a positive response. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I recall seeing a source of assorted colors of small spools of E-thread. I can't find them though. I searched the forum, googled.... I'm pretty sure I remember it being discussed here. Anyone, anyone... Buehler...? -- Jeff My Skydiving History

I am so happy that Freefalling together is finally available again. A couple of years ago I searched in vain for one. I ordered mine today from Skydiving. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

It isn't that hard. Just build it. Take some measurements off of a canopy and scale it down. You aren't trying to break any world records, just make something that flies. The fabric isn't tat big of a deal either, especially if you consider it a first effort. Buy some cheap fabric and build it. You will learn so much in that process and you might decide to build another. You can upscale the budget and effort level then. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Ask your canopy and container manufacturers. I'm pretty sure PD recommends F-111. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

In the absence of other factors, I'd ordinarily look for a manufacturing defect for a first jump failure. -- Jeff My Skydiving History -

SkyCat is a very reliable and reputable merchant, and I think your problem will get resolved to your satisfaction. It is likely that someone who jumps at Raeford will read this and volunteer to help you, since that is where SkyCat is located. If not, then I will contact them for you. I am sure that whatever the problem is, it can be resolved with a little communications. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Seeing a toggle that appears to have been pulled through the retaining ring would ordinarily make me think it was never routed through the ring in the first place. check the grommet and see if it will fit through the ring. I have seen guys jump with the steering line only routed through the slider grommet. Look for damage on the toggle tongue keeper. That also gets damaged if the cats eye is above the ring on an otherwise properly rigged toggle. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Is this "Random Fly" the same stuff we usually call "unstable"? -- Jeff My Skydiving History

It depends on what you define as a "big fat canopy." Also, what's your definition of high jump numbers? Mostly I'd say the answer is "yes." Also, you don't need to worry about it. Jump, progress, and jump the canopy you want and are qualified for. -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Usually related to turbulence. The standard prevention (not perfect) is stay at full flight, and avoid turbulence generators (ie, don't be downwind of obstacles). -- Jeff My Skydiving History

your survey needs a broader range... -- Jeff My Skydiving History

Survey about skydiving for student project
darkwing replied to darkwing's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Dudes and Dudettes, I post this at the request of a college faculty member overseeing a student research project. Your response to the survey will be greatly appreciated... ****** Begin Plea **** I am contacting you because I am desperately trying to locate respondents for a research project which one of my students is conducting. He is looking at the characteristics of people who participate in specific sports. This study specifically needs respondents who engage in one or more of the following sports: scuba diving, skydiving and/or mountaineering. We are hoping that you and/ or members of your organization can assist us. We are having a great deal of difficulty locating enough respondents for him to conduct statistical analysis. The questionnaire is available online. Pretests indicate that it only takes about 5 minutes to complete. The respondents need only follow this link and submit their input. http://csob.berry.edu/faculty/nmiller/sports_survey.htm We would be happy to share the aggregated results with your group if they participate. I am more than happy to build a method to collect the names of people who complete the surveys to allow you to assign points or credit if you so request. Needless to say, this project is only for academic purposes. The student plans to present these results at the National Sports Marketing Association conference and to submit the manuscript to the readings book associated with the conference. None of the data will be used for commercial purposes. Not individual will be identified in the results. Please feel free to visit my website to learn more about me and my research at http://csob.berry.edu/faculty/nmiller/ Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions (nmiller@berry.edu or 706-238-5891) Thank you so much for your consideration, Nancy Nancy D.
