Sorry I don't buy it. He was convicted for not COLLECTING and paying tax. Not for stealing from his employees via manipulating their paychecks. Can you provide some proof of this? Are you just going by the news stories? Or do you have some other source? We all know how much the news people can screw up a story, so maybe they did the same here. Anyone know how long this was going on? Past 1 April 15 and not collecting the taxes would be evident to all involved, since they would not be reported in the W2s. I'm just going by all the news stories from the last several months. If he truly was stealing from the employees why wasn't this noted and included in his proceedings? None of the news stories I've seen mention him stealing. They only state he failed to collect the taxes. But everyone seems to assume he was stealing as well. Why is that? I find it hard to believe as he was NOT charged with stealing.

That is not true. Get your facts straight. He failed to "COLLECT and pay" any taxes. No money was withheld from any employee's paycheck. Read the articles. Therefore no employees were hurt.
-
How did any employees lose money? He did not collect taxes from them so in essence, the employees ended up with more take home pay. If the government is now trying to collect the money from the employees then that sucks but they really just got use of money that wasn't theirs in the first place that should have been paid to the government. And I'm sure they knew they should be paying taxes on that income.

What deployment method do you have on your primary sport rig?
tetra316 replied to DocPop's topic in Gear and Rigging
The method I have been taught involves 'inverting' the PC (as though it was collapsed by the kill line, although, of course it is NOT) and then just lying it in the pack tray in that configuration. S-fold the bridle and that's it. Quote You can do that with a boc pilot chute. In fact some well known packers at Perris do just that. -
Getting Big to get back from a long spot????
tetra316 replied to azureriders's topic in Safety and Training
It happens because sometimes students do not ask their instructors the questions but discuss it amongst themselves later which will usually lead to confusion and incorrect information. That sounds like what happended here. They didn't ask the original instructor for clarification but talked between themselves after the fact. For someone from out of town teaching a course, there is no opportunity to correct this misinformation since they are no longer there. Or maybe the students had additional questions after the course was over and the instructor left so they asked each other instead of seeking out someone qualified. There are lots of ways for not everyone to get all the information. Of course all instructors should try 100% to make sure their information is understood. But even the best instructors have to deal with the above from time to time, more so those that do traveling instruction. -
As do I. Well, it's more like 1300 jumps on my Infinity risers and not a single brake fire. And my risers are the ones without any keeper on the back. I think the brake fire issue is more packing method, which can vary depending on your gear.

Seriously? He always made me pay $20 for the few I lost.

Getting Big to get back from a long spot????
tetra316 replied to azureriders's topic in Safety and Training
Whaaaa? HE asked YOU to handle it? WTF? Probably because the original instructor is from out of the area. And I wouldn't be so quick to blame poor instruction if other students walked away with the right information. -
One dz used to give everyone a certificate and a bumper sticker. Another one does a certificate, bumper sticker, and handout detailing the AFF program and costs. Both will give a student log book both only if they ask for it or if the tandem is in prep for the AFF course.

#1 yes, ill fitting student gear can cause soreness. #2 is bullshit. It is not the size of the canopy that dictates opening, but rather the condition of the canopy. Also your lack of experience plays a part. If you are not used to opening shock, it can be painful. On any size canopy.

What do you have to deal with at your airport?
tetra316 replied to legalize1966's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well duh, why would anyone want to support a bunch of scammers? -
Actually he said 15.
-
while you may be right, and i think seperation at 5500 is good enough, pulling at 2500 is NOT your "standard-procedure".. on an everyday skydive - not on world-records.. You are right. It is more like deploy at 2000 to 2500. Yes on world records. Not every canopy takes 1500 to open and not everyone is scared to open at 2k.

It is a dz policy. They can do whatever they want. Absolutley correct. They can do whatever they want. So like I said. Scamming students for more money than they actually need to spend... That is simply your opinion. Others do not agree.

How hard is it for instructor to fling student off?

Well, how was I to know he wasn't being serious? There were no icons to give it away -
How hard is it for instructor to fling student off?
tetra316 replied to FutureJumper's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It can and does happen. From what I've head, it usually the result of bad body position (de arching, legs askew) on the student causing the pair to turn. The spinning can increases to the point where the pair is flung apart. -

The jumping in Waverly is not a scam. The owners however, are scammers. The dz is operated by scammers. Therefore anyone who patronizes this dz is aiding the scams. Simple. -
Actually my home dz requires at least one tandem before AFF. I can see the pros and cons but generally see it as a good idea. Takes away the overload and gives them some idea of what to expect. Any more than that I think has them building bad habits.

I use large rubber bands on the first two locking stows and double wrap then. Small rubber bands are used on the rest. I use large and double stow simply because it is easier and quicker for me to stow them. I could use small and single stow for those two but it would be harder on my hands. Double stowing is just an ease of use method is all.
-
It's not about single or double wrapping, it's about tension. It needs to be appropriate and even.

How do you teach Emergancy Procedures (Cutting Away)
tetra316 replied to TheRanchPROshop's topic in Instructors
Well, it's a simple fact that if you use the two handed method it is possible to not be able to find your reserve handle due to a shifting harness and you cannot see it due to spinning on your back. FACT! Non debatable. Simple FACT, you can't do that with the one handed method, FACT!!! It goes both ways. You should know that. -
As for a good idea in turbulence, I really don't know. Thinking full flight would be better though...
