Yeah, just try to do a little serious RW without audible and let me know how it goes.... Yep do it all the time. It's all about awareness, not reliance on some electronic device.

You really should not buy a used helmet. One good hit can crack the shell and/or render the padding inside useless. You have no idea how the previous owner has treated the helmet. Of course if you are buying one purely for looks this point is moot.

Is it an individual or group plan?

Bunkhouse is free, or at least was the few times I've been there. But pretty stuffy as it's in the barn with no windows.

Actually it doesn't matter what the SIM says (although I don't know). It matters what the manufacturer says. I seen guidelines along the lines of 500 jumps, AFF rating, 200 camera jumps before jumping camera with tandem etc. Although I've never heard of any place actually following the written guidelines to the letter.

It was a requirement to attend a P3 event in 2010. According to the information on bigways.com it still is. And it was also listed as such in the several emails I received about TSR: a. Have demonstrated competency in at least one P3 event in 2010, AND b. Have been on at least one 100-way event in 2010, AND c. Have a proven ability to track safely away from a formation, AND d. Have proven to be a reliable team player. e. And/or be an active Advanced or Open competitor in the 2010 or 2011 seasons. The organizing team can waive requirements 'a' and 'b' in certain circumstances. However, that said another email came out today from Tom J. that apparantely changed the word AND in line a to the word OR. My guess is they receieved a lot of negative feedback about this 'requirement'. Or the word AND in line a was just a mistake to begin with. Who knows?

While I am not a lawyer, I'm am sure you will find these have all been superceded by more recent case law. Laws change with the times. The right to travel is different than the right to drive an automobile, which is not a right but a privilege. Hence, all the laws surrounding who can drive and at what age.

general thoughts on what a demo is
tetra316 replied to leapdog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nope but that is what I was told by someone who was. He elected to put a jump club's name on his intead of his name. -
general thoughts on what a demo is
tetra316 replied to leapdog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Half of the price to participate in the jumps went to the museum to buy a (brick, plaque?) with a name on it. So I suppose this would qualify as a fundrasing event. -
Gravity Gear shop and other crapy shops?
tetra316 replied to Lok's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not true! Re read her post. The units were already sold before the OP contacted her. How did Bonnie not provide customer service? There is no service to provide since the units were sold BEFORE the OP contacted her -
Contact the dz, they will tell you everything you need to know Keep in mind this is a weather dependent sport and therefore you might not be able to complete your jumps in the time allowed. Good luck!

Thanks I didn't mean this as a flame on you but to bring up a valid point. Perhaps then this will at least make you think twice about how your next camera is mounted and whether or not it is as flimsy as it appears this was.

Poll: What Reserve Handle: Ring / Soft /Other
tetra316 replied to fcajump's topic in Gear and Rigging
I use a low profile D ring. Half the size of an original D ring and not much bigger than a pillow handle. Havn't used it yet (knock on wood) but it appears much easier to be able to grab a hold of in a violent mal. Or rather stick a thumb through as you wouldn't necessarily need to 'grab' as you would a pillow handle. -
And this should be used as an example of someone who is not ready to be flying camera. The fact that you did not even know you lost the camera speaks to your awareness level. Hitting the door and breaking a camera off the top of your head should be a noticable event. It is not an insignificant bump or ding. As you get more jumps and experience you become more aware of exactly what you are doing and what happens. Sounds like you do not have the awareness level yet to be jumping with a camera. If you did not even notice this what else will you not notice...At this point a camera is too much for someone not aware enough. At least this is my opinion.

Check your local fabric store/warehouse. I can find it locally in a few different colors.

Have you found a way to insure your gear?
tetra316 replied to quesera's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have renters insurance as well. It only covers items damaged in your house and only certain items in your car. ie CDs and movies are not covered if in your car but I was told my rig was. -
Earplugs? Personal preference or a real reason?
tetra316 replied to 3mpire's topic in Safety and Training
That is not an issue, due to pressure change. I wear hearing aids, even when jumping You just want to make sure any ear plugs are snug but can still move when you move your jaw. That is how you can equalize the pressure if necessary, but manipulating your jaw. -
Alaska! Can't beat Denali in the background.

The number of jumps a canopy can withstand will depend on where it is jumped, how it is treated and where it is packed. A canopy jumped in the northwest for example and always landed on nice green, grass, packed indoors and treated with respect can last for a couple thousand jumps. A canopy jumped and landed solely in the desert and thrown around and packed on the desert floor can be lucky to see a 1,000 jumps. Information and inspection will determine where a canopy between these ends.

Camping at Skydive Dallas in August
tetra316 replied to tetra316's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I thought about that but the picture is a very small room with 12 beds Plus you can't make a reservation and there will be 80+ people there that weekend. -
Camping at Skydive Dallas in August
tetra316 replied to tetra316's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So is it bearable? I'll be there the 3rd week in August and deciding between a hotel in Sherman or tenting it. Or is it too hot and humid for tenting? -
And your point is that, since there are no persons anointed by USPA, there are no persons who can accomplish the task? I never said that. Not necessarily. What about the ST&A and dzo who signed off on a recent poster to jump a camera at less than a 100 jumps. Or the supposed mentor who teaches people how to wingsuit with less than 50 jumps per DSE. Just because someone teaches or mentors doesnot mean they should. People have died listening to these kinds of 'instrutors'. If you want you do something in response to these instances I simply believe creating hard and fast rules are the only solution since we cannot always rely on those instructing us. 200 jumps minimum for camera or wingsuiting is really not that much. Would it really hurt anyone to wait until 200?
-
I think his point is that there are no wingsuit evaluators or instructors per USPA. So your analogy to AFF, coaches etc. does not apply. If there is no standard for wingsuit instructors how do you decide who can evaluate someone wanting to wingsuit?
