So you advocate ignoring the manufacturer's recommendation? Just because you can doesn't mean you should or that's its okay.
-
It's not setting it off that I turn it off for, it's the battery usage. It takes more battery power for it to recalibrate itself for the altitude changes for an hour then it does to simply turn off the unit. So therefore by turning it off I'm using less battery power than leaving it on and driving home. At least that's why I do it, but I can't recall where this info came from. Hopefully, it's accurate though.

Well that was a quick turn about

Difference between ICARUS (New Zealand & Spain) Manufacturing?
tetra316 replied to Kynan1's topic in Gear and Rigging
I have a New Zealand Safire 2 and am extremely happy with it. -
Haven't heard of this problem nor have I any problems turning mine off. I always turn it off when leaving the dz as i live an hour away through the hills. Interesting.
-
No record unfortunately. Four jumps on Friday but the weather gods had their way on Saturday. Only got 2 more in on Sunday before it clouded up again.
-
Yeah, I bet there's some people hurting right now for lack of some substances.
-
HAHA that's funny! Where the hell did you come up with that # ? Most of the instructers out there (HI) struggle just to pay rent! That's a whole lot of jumps at the $20 a jump that they pay! 4000 jumps a year I believe, good luck with that. Can I live in your dream world? Well, maybe not Hawaii but I know you can make that much at Vegas, but you'll probably burn out in a year.
-
Seriously?! You(or whose ever idea this is) are expecting people to pay for his mistakes?! There is no way you can make me believe that 60 pounds of pot, $800,000 and over 400 plants were all for medicinal uses. I don't think anyone is that gulliable. If on the very off chance they are really legal distributors, where can I get in on the business, sounds like the dough is rolling in
-
So if I get pulled over down there with $50,000 in cash and absolutely no durgs then they can seize the cash?!? That's f*** up. Seizing both if they find a lot drugs too, now that I can understand.

Got seriously ripped off by non skydiver in Tacoma, WA
tetra316 replied to bigway's topic in The Bonfire
If he's a non-skydiver, how did he manage to rip you off? Just curious. -
Flawed or not, you can't tell me ALL that was just for personal medicinal use.
-
I too ordered a new main from him and would do so again in a second. Great service and great prices.

Never heard this. Every once in a while I get pretty good line twists on my pilot chute. It even happened on a brand new one. I figure it's just wierd winds or something since it's only rarely it happens. I've been told around 400 or so jumps in a good replacement time. One of the two bridle attachments next to the kill line broke on mine right around that time so I figured it was time to replace it.

I'm willing to help out in any other way I could EXCEPT I would not contribute to medical bills. If you had insurance and were still left with huge bills, well that's another story and I'd be willing to help in that case.
-
I firmly believe if you can afford to skydive, you can afford, at least, major medical. It's irresponsible otherwise to not have insurance, especially if you are engaging extra risky activities within skydiving. I have no sympathy for those who end up with astronomical medical bills after they have chosen NOT to have any kind of insurance. Please do not misunderstand though, this only relates to their rising bills as a result of an direct choice, NOT the fact of the incident itself.

Most definitely! But I'd look around at other deals though. Just make sure you find a coach who knows AFF and not just a random tunnel instructor. You wouldn't want to be learning something your AFF instructor teaches differently.

Time for License Processing?
tetra316 replied to thestalkmore's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Wouldn't that be a BSR violation? Section 62.A.33.b. - Landing on any car for which a tune-up costs more than the average family of four spends on groceries per month. -
This sounds way overpriced to me. Do the math, at this price it would mean $1,440 for an hour or $720 for thirty minutes. I did 30 minutes for $500 including coaching from a former airspeed member last year. Sure the price per minute might be cheaper than a jump ticket plus coaching but I'd find a better deal. The only upsizse is them offering you a free repeat on the AFF jump if you fail. Have you failed a level before? Do you think you will fail your next level?

Suit against the ranch is dismissed (finally)
tetra316 replied to rivetgeek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Really?! So every AFF candidate has to pony up $600+ before they can even consider doing their AFF I dive - which is another couple hundred? So they are in for $800 or $900 (or more) by the time they have completed their first AFF dive? Depending on the progression they start at AFF 3-4, not AFF1. -
Has basic skydiving become an obstacle?
tetra316 replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I disagree. I've known a few people who have racked up 300 or more hop & pops just for sake of jump numbers so they could get a tandem rating. Some have also used the date of their first tandem as a starting point for time in sport. So you could end up with someone who has been skydiving less than a year, with 500 jumps becoming a tandem master. Perfectly legal but definitely not wise. -

tetra316 replied to rivetgeek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And there's probably a decent number of DZs offering tandems who like that. Frankly, I don't think a tandem is a bad first jump. Wendy P. There seems to be more dzs that are indeed requiring a tandem before AFF now. Maybe that was the case at this dz. -
FYI for those without insurance or even those with insurance
tetra316 replied to Chiquita's topic in The Bonfire
Or just get a job with an employer who offers insurance then you won't have to worry about coverage. -
I have a bonehead open and full face. I have the same size in both. However, I tried on different sizes of other brands that fit and they eneded up being XS to medium. It depends on the brand.
