We made it through ok and no damage but people 20 miles to the east didn't come out so well. Power is still out of a lot of people. Gas is hard to get for the autos etc. I had full tanks on all of my cars so I'll be ok. WDW did ok lots of trees down signs etc. No show stoppers. 30 percent of the cast "called in" on saturday so they sent out the word and a bunch of us ended up working in the parks. For about six hours I was making ice cream sundays at the Magic Kingdom. Funny stuff. The big take away out of all of this is you shouldn't trust the forcasters and you cant be perpared enough. How is California and Perris? I assume we were all over the news out there. --------------------------------------------- Randy

We spent a fun filled weekend getting over Charlie --------------------------------------------- Randy

I made a few jumps last November with Blind John @ Perris. The smile on his face in free-fall was priceless. What a great experience to share.

First of all make sure your doctor gives you the all clear. I was out eight months for back surgey. I did a jump with a AFF instructor to get current with my normal rig (1.3:1). I figured jumping somthing I was used to would be less risky. The big thing is take it easy. If you go too fast you might be out again. Good luck and have fun --------------------------------------------- Randy

Cairns for the skydive, Bargara for the week before. I'm doing the Skydive the Beach. Bob Check with the DZs your planning to go to. Most in the Cairns area are Tandem factories. They will put fun jumers on loads if space is available. --------------------------------------------- Randy

Thanks, but Nicole is considered a hottie too. That's what I was curious about, whether it was her age, the kids or whatever reason you all would think it would be that she can't get a date. Her age is just fine. I'm not against kids just never dated someone with kids. --------------------------------------------- Randy

I had a very good time. Only made a couple of jumps. I think the weather turned alot of people away. The staff and locals were great. Very nice aircraft overall a very good experience. Too bad the weather was so-so. BTW, the waiver process wasn't that bad --------------------------------------------- Randy

Thanks to everyone... I'll see ya on the weekend if the weather is ok... its Oregon you know --------------------------------------------- Randy

Lots-o-fun...we took 8 people from work to the tunnel and at least one is doing his AFF now. BTW are you going to be in town on June 5&6? --------------------------------------------- Randy -
Is it ok to jump if I had a past back injury?
rjackson replied to pertierr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had a 10mm buldge in a disk between L4-L5 back in 01. My doctor knew I was a skydiver and gave me the all clear after 4 months. I jump with the soft brace that they gave me after the operation. I really dont need it but its kind of a crutch and it makes me feel better to know its there. I think the best thing you can do is see your doctor have him inform you of the risks and then you can make an informed choice. If you do choose to do a jump, enjoy. --------------------------------------------- Randy -
Quade has a good write up on these nasty things on his web site: http://www.futurecam.com/dustDevils.html These things form as the air is rising with light and variable winds. Usually when the wind becomes steady from one direction they'll go away. In areas where there is dusty conditions like Eloy and Perris you can see them comming for the most part and avoid them. I have seen these things turn over trailers on the ground and if your in the air under canopy they can kill you. --------------------------------------------- Randy

There are a couple of issues with living in that area and driving to Costa Mesa. One the drive is going to be terrible going south on the 405 at the normal drive time. Car insurance goes up as soon as you get a "90" zip code (LA County). It really depends on what kind of life style you want and where your coming from. There are a number of the job search websites that have cost of living calculators. Make sure that you get familiar with the differences and housing costs before you accept the job. bullet cams: IR illumination and low light filming
rjackson replied to whatever's topic in Photography and Video
Paul, A half dozen IR Leds on a PC board would do the trick. A lot cheaper and smaller too. --------------------------------------------- Randy -
I got onto this thread late. Is there going to be some RW that weekend? --------------------------------------------- Randy

Why isn't skydiving part of the X-Games?
rjackson replied to gerryfuss's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Not only that, but sports that the audience can participate in. For a couple hundred bucks, anybody can buy a pair of rollerblades or a snowboard or a BMX bike and start participating right away. Now look at skydiving. The cost for an A license and gear is $4000-$5000, then the jumps needed to get good, plus the whole 18 years old thing. Even street luge or wakeboarding is much more accessable to the average X-Games viewer than skydiving. Yep, its all about the demographic and selling advertising. --------------------------------------------- Randy
