Looks like an opportunity for something to snag lines and get stuck in the upright position when it trys to slide downward... "Chutes" not "cutes".

"Parachutist", May 2013. The full-page feature photo on the inside back cover shows a Skyvan exit (photo 1). But something else that caught my eye in that photo is some fishnet type stuff above and behind the rear door on the underside of the horizontal tail surface (close-up photo 2). What the heck is that all about?

Stolen Gear - Zhills (PDFT Rig with Peregrine 67)
BeteNoire replied to ianmdrennan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why is that relevant? Stolen gear is stolen gear. Someone has to pay to replace it..... A sponser most likely has deeper pockets than an unsponsered individual, and a sponser only pays his production cost of making the rig and canopies, and not the retail price. But yes, that doesn't make it any less sad. Just that the financial effect on the victim is lessened. -
Seems to be gone now on my IE browser.

"Public universities may be suffering disinvestment from state governments, but their presidents are still taking home hefty salaries. According to a newly released survey by the Chronicle of Higher Education, the median total compensation for public university chancellors and presidents rose 3 percent from $409,483 in FY 2010 to $421,395 in FY 2011." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/05/29/highest-paid-public-college-presidents_n_1552720.html No wonder college tuition is so high.

There was a California jumper who died last year jumping from a paraglider, because it couldn't climb high enough for a normal safe opening altitude, and because of the low airspeed he had to freefall for a while to get up to the airspeed he needed for parachute deployment, and then was too low to get his parachute open in time before impact. Good luck!

Well, they were talking about how to word the bill, so perhaps they were actually saying; "Conjugate! Conjugate! Conjugate!" Just a theory...

No problem. Allah will take care of you.

What about it?

I once unscrewed the plastic lens on my Altimaster to replace it with a new, unscratched one. As the last of the threads came off the lens jumped sideways on me and sheared off the needle. I sent it in for a repair, but it was considered unrepairable. It was junk. Sure had a nice pretty lens, though. I had to buy a new altimeter. So if you try this, proceed with caution, and be aware of the possible consequences. Trying to save a little money, can cost you a lot of money. Attached: photo of said broken needle altimeter, and how it looked when returned by the factory.

Otter jump planes have one of two types of seating. 1) benches down each side of the walls where you'll be sitting side to side with others, all facing the middle, touching each other on the sides, and the center aisle is full of everyone's legs. 2) Two rows of foam "benches" running down the inside, one on the left and one on the right, and everyone straddles the bench facing the rear, one leg in the center, one leg against the wall, and you'll be touching each other front to rear, where "rear" means the parachute rig of the guy in front of you. It is tight. Skydivers are used to it. New guys maybe not. You'll have to judge for yourself how bad it is for you. Time to altitude runs 15 to 25 minutes depending upon how powerful the engines are that the plane has installed on it, and how high they climb for jump run. Oh, and there might be 5 minutes on the ground from boarding to taxiing to the end of the runway for takeoff. Best month? Depends on the weather where you are. Summers are hot and sweaty in some places. Winters are too frigid in others. Spring and Fall are usually best, temperature wise.

Willie wants to know if he can sue a skydiving company because his back started hurting several weeks after making a jump. Judge Mathis responds - see the attached image. Or go here and see the 4th entry: http://askjudgemathis.com/2013/01

Stolen Gear - Zhills (PDFT Rig with Peregrine 67)
BeteNoire replied to ianmdrennan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yeah the resale market for that is huge. NOT! -
Have you called the dropzone which you will be visiting and asked them if they have rental rigs?

Heck, even the swimming pool isn't really a great substitution. In the old days we actually made a live hop 'n pop jump into a real lake.

Gun violence in US has fallen dramatically over past 20 years
BeteNoire replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
Yet background checks between family and friends are a bad idea. A criminal anticipating using a gun in crime is not going to agree to undergo a background check. Only the law-abiding people, for whom background checks are a waste of time, will bother to comply with such a law. Thus it accomplishes nothing to stop crime, and inconveniences and costs many innocent people. That's a bad way to create laws. -
Court Upholds Damages in Mo. sky diving Deaths
BeteNoire replied to Cutaway68's topic in The Bonfire
No sympathy from me. There you go, that's that explanation for this seemingly incomprehensible court ruling. And now that we have all the facts, it makes perfect sense. I hope someone has tracked down all the other aircraft that these substandard parts have been insstalled in, so that corrective maintenance can be done before another tragedy occurs. -
The way to tread water is to deflect it with your hands and legs, just like deflecting air in freefall to move your body. Get someone to show you how to do it in the shallow end, and practice until your confident.
