"Control range is a predetermined amount of deflection of the tail from full flight. Whether the canopy is 3 inches closer or not shouldnt make a difference in the control range right? Just so long as the control lines are adjusted accordingly." Here we have the correct answer. Rizer length is typically set by the container manufacturer and is usually set up to the ends of the rizers are into the main container. Hutch m.r. TQ2

My understanding, setting asides uspa for a moment, that the MANUFACTURERS ban demo's with the gear. I Know My Vector Manula says no demo's Hutch

the lowest I have personally done is 90 feet with a decelerator chute from a speed boat. The jump was done over water from a cliff in arizona.. The canopy was xxx's. XXX came up and held the sl/ bag. Ker splash. My lowest with a regular canopy (firelite) was 120 feetish. This off a small bridge in Alberta. We tye the pc to the bridge and launch. the free bagged canopy would inflate quikly buuut not quite be flying as we landed. I know some guys who have done free falls from 111 TARDing their canopies Hutch edit: Hutch, please read the posting guidelines (and linked thread on naming) fully before posting. Thanks. ~Tom Aiello

Stevens System OR RSL It's a generation thing. The system used to be called the 'steven's system' or "you know the the satic line for your chest mount reseve". It gradually compressed over time to the 'rsl" I 'v jumped one and performed 3-4 cutawys. I was never hit in the face by the handle. I did the bending at the waist and all that stuff as taught. May I was just to handsome to hit with a handle Hutch

Do you use an rsl ? consult rigger for the correct timing. Sign Hutc Master rigger

they have been report as a contriputing i situations lately. Several manufacturers havepresented stiffenerto proct the tips ofthe cutaway handles.

Us oldtimer might resent that. We spend the years building up our businesses and industries and services and skills and then present them on aplater to new jumpers who spurn the efforts that created their tiny rig or bought the airplane.

The ring need to be close the socket of your hip and it soounds close. If the overall size of the harness is the concern assess how high the shouldeers of the rig are in flight. Please as courtesy , adjust your profile to show a realistic number of jumps ...Eleventy billion/

Persue a 1.1 loading or stay with a bigger canopy

"BTW why does a 170 hornet glide futher forward than a 190 Hornet with me under it". Not enough info for a US to generate a clear ask. the need to ask some of these quetions that display lower knowledge of arrow dynamics should underscore for you the need the make your basic mistakes on larger canopies. As a experience insructor the most I would reccommend ON any type of Canopy -
Give one good reason why they should to : retool/enginer for a large size that they don't make, of course in the colors you want. They provide a fleet of their of other canopies. They were premade, out ugly colors ( iam guessing) in the time they could spare from building the paying costumers production runs. Humm, service the cutomer who has paid or delay their orders or jump through hoops.Humm Hutch master rigger

With the increased visibility of BASE jumping in media today, I think one of the problems is that too many people are starting to BASE jump with too little parachuting experience. Sure, you can get away with some stuff, but you really need to be aware of everything if you expect to come back again and again. Skypuppy BASE92 Here here well said! My first was in '82 over the similkamen river bridge (about 500ft) in british colombia, I had 197 jumps, i used my new racer And my hobbit main (165ft). we rigged a bogus static line. Being head down I towed the p/c to a very low height(200 ft -) both loops locked into the keepers. After two sharp turns to avoid the canyon walls I landed on top of a boulder. The next one I did I was pushing close to 1000 jumps I was MUCH better prepared rig wise and ability wise. I think 500 jumps would be a good number to have before preforming base jump. Be a good at accuracy and assessing in a hurry where you are going to land. In base accuracy is a heavy duty survival skill. the exit is simple ... do right the the FIRST time. Somebody will teach you how...practice at a swimming pool hutch base140

Hello My old base patch is getting frayed. Are new ones availible? Hutch base140

Hi The first 'second ' dz i visited was Calaresholm alberta in 1980 I had about 60 jumps and maybe 5 of them were rw. My buddy had about 125 jumps and we entered the pumkin pass. we got a large one...A LARGE ONE. we passed by each other once or twice. I cannot beleive the senior jumps and our X-instructors let us do it. I am sure they were laughing their bums off. Hutch

I might suggest that an older rig is a good idea for a first rig 1 there are cheaper 2 you will make mistakes in the next 100= jumps and a larger canopy will reduce your you boo boos ( hopefully) 3 when you make a mistake that damages your gear its only a 1000 - 1500 $ rig NOT a 3000-5000 one. Do not worry about resale too much. when you go to buy a zippy fast new rig whether you got 1200 or 1500 for you old gear doesn't affect the fact you need to fin $4000 + , all that much. Hutch d 467

hi here is a possible answer that fits both side of the issue the denser air affects all aspects of canopy flight , not just the swoop. so there you are intiating a turn that rotates slightly faster. the drag created on the turning side is slightly greater, say by 4%, , and the lift generated on the other side is 4% greater. this should result in a slightly faster bank in to the turn or translated more turn for your buck. Mind you of course then the denser air should also provide a faster recovery. I thereby contradict my self hutch base 140 (or is it 141, I forget)

hi it sounds like the rigger was setting up a single point operating (sos) on the student rigs. On an sos systems backed up by an rsl the timing of the release (left to right) may be less critical. Can you clarify this for us? Other opinions please? Hutch

Nothing wrong with a fury. I'll guess from you picture that you were very little under it. And what was you coolest landing? Hutch
-
no shot intended or implied. I just wish to stir up a conversation jumped a raider ... does this mean you are bigger...what's the coolest landing you ever did with it? A bt 60...british canopy right, three chamber endcells? And a cool landing for it? With my first firelite I cranked a turn at 150 ish and over rotated so I was aimed a bit tighter towards things than I liked. I was screaming down at car 9missed it 5 ft. maybe), flared hard around the corner, steered to miss the fire pit and skidded a stop before hitting a trailer. My heart was pounding, the Hutterite spectators were cheering. Tin Tin, a experinced skydiver from Quebec came and patted me on the back " cool landing...very cool" there was a wicked gleam in his eye and I knew He was serious when he said " next time use the rizers." I thought he was nuts Hutch

cool i did not know the jedi had a straight leading edge thanks for the info

okay It seem that we have a least a couple of old timers (jessh I just called my self an old timers) and I know this sends the discussion in a different direction. What was every bodies favorite canopy in the 80's? hutch
-
hi Try rizering tightly down the front of the torso using all the musle groups possible. Work out doing chinups and 'pull downs' to strenghten the back laterals etc.. Its cheaper than buying canopy after canopy. If you are dodging some one flaring and then rizering is a bad tactic. You'll need the brute strength to muscle em down. hutch
