  1. Fuck educational value. If you got video of me going in, sell that puppy, make good money, buy beer/jumps our buds. Michael
  2. I'm not sure. I went walking around the neighborhood tonight and it looked like every house had one (no hurricanes this year :). Seriously, if skydiving is your motivation, I recommend central Florida (Orlando is 60-90 minutes from several great DZ's). Not much skydiving in south florida. I'm seriously considering it. There aren't too many crew dawgs up north, and I'm too poor to travel all over. BTW, How is the roofing industry down there in Florida? Money to be made?
  3. I started doing CRW in 1976, did mostly CRW until 1990 and nothing but CRW since. I strated sharing my experiences pretty early as I wanted Dogs to jump with. I went up with people when I had 5-10 CRW jumps just kind of worked it out as we went along. A few thousand CRW jumps later, I remain eager jump with anyone who wants to devote a day to CRW. We'll spend some time on the ground and cover a few things then go up one on one and have some fun. I'm not a teacher, coach, instructor or skygod ...I'm not even that good, but I am willing to share what I know with anyone who wants to smile, have fun. CRW Skies, Michael
  4. You'll probably get some specific replies but the truth is, there are way too many variables to make a call here. If you can get a sports injury doc or PT's advice, I would recommend that path. Get better soon. Michael
  5. They are more commonly called the "straps of death" :)
  6. Chris was a STUD! He was the point of the 25-way diamond and dockig on my left leg. I was getting to my slot quickly and smoothly, but before I could even take a cool breath of self-congratulation, Chris was right there with a sweet, controlled dock ...every time! You ain't a puppy no more, Chris. Michael D-6139 The first attempt at a 50-way was on Friday morning. The formation was completed, except for one grip: Row 7 right wing was never locked down. The guy who was flying row 7 right wing was skilled enough to hang out there unlocked for the duration of this formation, but this lack of grip voided the 50-way formation's validity for record status. A couple hours later, the next attempt went together without a problem and this set the US record. 3 more successful 50-way formations were created on Friday. Some people remained in the formation and some were moved out to make room for people who hadn't been in the big-way yet, By the end of the day 84 people had been in at least one of the 5 50-way formations. Saturday morning there was a new goal: to create a 56-way box. This one built quite smoothly on the first try and was held for about 35 seconds before it was broken down via starburst. The next goal was a 64-way diamond. The base was going together smoothly and a total of 46 people were in their slots by approx 7,500 ft AGL, at which time a break-it-down call came about because of unexpected bad weather / turbulence. We were hoping to have another shot at this 64-way on Sunday morning, but low cloud layer prevented us from going up. Maybe next year
  7. In freefall, if you go below the other person, what's the best way to float up? :) It's easier for him to come down to you. In CRW, it's easier (and quicker) for the front person to come back to you. Base/pins are hard. I've seen many a pair of experienced CRWDogs chase eachother around the sky for several thousand feet trying to get a two stack (not me, of course ;) The method I use for base pin with an inexperienced person is to fly side by side (anywhere from bumping end cells to a canopy width). On command, whoever is slightly higher start about a 20 degree turn to the outside. The other Dog turns to the inside (let your nose slide right across his back. When his torso gets roughly toward the center three cells, he grabs ...well, whatever he can reach, put your feet in the lines and have fun. Repeat as desired CRWSkies, Michael
  8. If they are too sky to reach for beer ...their loss. Yeah, I bought beer for you, too. Since it was my first event that I organized, I had to buy. I think I drank most of it.
  9. From Paul Bliss (NCCS-1) to Lyn Hannan, who just recently joined the dogpound, a GREAT bunch of people to jump with. How bout them TOADSUCKERS? Michael
  10. Not this time around. We've been running anybody welcome camps for the past two years. This is invitation only for a new U.S. Record. Michael
  11. It's ....MY HERO and one of the original THEM TOADSUCKERS! Howdy Dave!
  12. A hard, quick sashay out and in and an ...authoritative dock is pretty damn satisfying. For heart pounding jungle love, however, rotes over the top, slicing through the burble, slapping tail all the way down is thrilling. A few quick tips for this: -no trailing pilot chutes -when receiving the dock don't look up and back (unless you figure broken necks will be in style soon). Keep your head tucked in and your arms and legs spread out. -wear kevlar. Michael
  13. Well, kind of like judges 'make laws' all time, the judges here made up a rule. It seems to me they are saying, we are penalizing you for breaking a rule that didn't exist when you did it. I don't know their rationale, but I would like to hear it. Michael Depends on the formation. A plane grip has to have the canopy above the head of the person below. The event in question was debating whether or not a hand and leg was a legal grip or whether it had to be just a leg grip. The team had both a hand and a leg in the lines/on the canopy and the judges ruled it illegal though there's a debate about that.
  14. Hi Mike... I'm definitely going to be there for some portion of the Lake Wales event... hopefully the whole week. Glad to see you're back online. Chris Warnock Awww, I was only off for about a week. I blew up my computer. I'm not talking "crashed" I'm talking blue electrical arcs and smoke pouring out the back. The new one is much mo betta. The cost, however, will keep me from going to CSS next month. Should be a great boogie ...even without me
  15. I'm going to be there for the week and looking forward to some INCREDIBLE CRW! Are there any other participants on this forum? CRW Skies, Michael
  16. I suggest a water based lubricant. Michael
  17. Sorry, I missed your post in my earlier response. Unfortunately, the Lightning flyer will be doing mostly air baths if trying to do CRW with Prodigys. They are prohibitively incompatible. Michael
  18. This is good advice. Without getting into the relative merits of each canopy, what it comes down do is you have to have a canopy aerodynamically compatible with the others. I don't know of anyone jumping prodigys these days (I know a few who would love to sell one). The Lightning is the canopy of choice for all recreational CRW in the US. CRW Skies, Michael
  19. I was hoping to find some information about how to change a wheel on an Otter
  20. I paid Nip $20 a few months ago to write the true story (mostly) of his dancing cow routine at a demo ...he either owes me a story or 20 bucks. Michael
  21. At that level of experience, I would stay away from microlines, and canopys that can't take a hit and still fly. A fast, hard slide of microline over a body part could put a damper on the rest of your life. BSBD, Michael
