I just started my AFF and from one noob to another I would simply suggest that you pay attention in ground school, ask lots of questions, and have fun! And yes, breathe..
-
You know whenever I hear people say that, I want to let them know that it feels as though I'm fortunate that the little plane made it to altitude.. packed with as many skydivers as it is... and that they would want to jump from it too.

Emergency Procedures - Side by Side

Perfect... Thanks so much for the links. -
In a declared disaster area, I do believe that the insurance companies aren't liable. I'll look into this.

Emergency Procedures - Side by Side
BigMikeH77 replied to BigMikeH77's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Was just reviewing the SIM and am a little confused by this recommendation for remedying a side-by-side two canopies out situation; My question is, how do you disconnect the RSL? Yes, I will of course talk to my instructors about this and other questions when I head to the DZ next weekend... I am just looking for insight. :-) -
Hmm, excellent questions. The only practical application for gravitational theories that I really have experience with lately however involve a twin otter - and I'm usually preoccupied with dive flows at the time.
-
Wouldn't it have to be constant? The force itself would increase on an object as its proximity and exposure increase. I mean, there's no way that I know of to reduce gravity other than reducing an object's mass. but even so, doing that only reduces the force of gravity, not the speed.

Yeah, I'm not sure where these huge numbers come from either - or who exactly will be getting all that money. Something tells me that it won't be the people who need it for if it were, the figure would be much smaller. Is the Federal Government expected to pay for all repairs and cleanup and relocation and rebuilding and damages for lost work and private business losses and hangmails and stubbed toes and kleenex and tampons? Arent the people requesting all this money the very same ones who blast government and government spending, and preach community involvement and charity work?

Gravity... What a drag. -
You know, this made me think about my time in U.S. Army Basic Training... Whenever we were in line (and for those of you whom have never experienced the military, there is a LOT of waiting) it was MANDATORY that we have our "smart books" open and be reading... studying... learning. Occasionally the Drill Sergeant would come along and give us a kick in the ass, but we'd have to have our smart books open whilst receiving said ass-kicking. I haven't thought about that in YEARS.

This is fascinating. BUT... The article says that gravity "travels". Since it's a force, I think it's more appropriate to say that gravity "acts" at approximately the speed of light. Just a thought.

2 Jumps One DZ (I'm getting there...)

Seriously? Your OP subject specifically points out the current presidents activities, now you're backpedaling and going on about the "bigger issue at hand". Like I said, do something about it other than whine. Do you expect the President of the United States to fly Southwest, stand in line and be harassed by TSA, pick his luggage up at the baggage carosuel , and be picked up at the curb? The man is ALWAYS working, even on vacation, and his office and duties go with from A to B (even if in this case it's A to B to A to B). Let's talk abot what better use for the hundreds of billions if not trillions of dollars spend on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and what better use for all that money. Education, infrastructure, education, social services, education, education...
-
The President of the United States gets exclusive use of Air Force One. That's the way it has always been. Find something better to complain about, or petition to have that changed, but don't go on spouting these statistics as though our current president is somehow unique and extra wasteful compared to his predecessors. We're smarter than that.

At first I took that as a personal jab... But I thought about it and can see your point. Recovering a relationship after infedility CAN happen, but it doesn't happen often. I think cheating is a symptom of a much greater underlying problem that has been allowed to fester and grow. It's incredibly difficult for the betrayed person to ever completely remove the possibility from their thoughts... That's the trust part. If there's ever going to be that shred of doubt about "where he/she is", or "who's that text from", etc., then its just not worth.putting yourself or the other person through it. I just think its better to move on, as hard as that can be.

What a real gem of real world, practical applications for these situations we all encounter at some point early on. Thanks for the insight, Bruce.
-
I think that once there is that great of a relational transgression, the trust is irreparably destroyed unfortunately. I wish it weren't so, but from my opinion and experience, that is just the case. So what do I think of someone whom stays in a relationship with a cheater? Regardless of man or woman, I think it speaks volumes of their self esteem. I know that sounds harsh... I've been on both sides more tinmes thani care to remember, and once the trust is gone its gone.
-
It seems to me more like one kid taking their toys and going home. And that's really what we're dealing with here on both sides - a bunch of selfish kids.

That King Air is E-V-I-L. See? It's invaded the sanctity of your dreams, Bruce... Or maybe you have a jump jones since the DZ has been closed all week. Hmmmm.

I agree. I too am a federal worker - You know, one of the people that apparently make too much money and are mooches on society - and it makes me so upset when folks go on and on about federal workers as though I have naything to do with the mess that our elected representatives have created. I just so happen to work for a government office that brings IN billions upon billions of dollars every year, second only to the IRS. I don't have a union or a collective bargaining agreement. My insurance premiums have gone up substantially the past few years, too. In the past 12 months there were THREE occasions where I left outgoing messages on my voicemail and e-mail explaining "Because of the federal government closures, I will be out of the office for an undetermined period" and had no idea wether I would have a job the following Monday. I just did the calculation on MY pay raise.. It comes out to 0.6%. That's an extra $14 per paycheck after years of frozen pay. Again, every little bit is a good thing but its incredibly small and will certainly be lost to taxes and increased cost of living which FAR outweigh any pay increases that anyone has gotten lately, public or private (unless you're a banker.) So yeah, federal workers are right there in the boat too. I'd appreciate it if folks would stop and think about that before bashing people who are working hard every day for EVERYONE's best interest.

Are you exaggerating this? I don't think that is NEARLY enough time to go through all the basics, the emergency procedures, practice exits, etc... It took me five hours and I wish I had more time. Does this concern anyone else?
-
Really - This is not as big of a deal as the media and feeble-minded make it out to be. Funny how so many gun owners shouldn't be, and those who are responsible and intelligent enough to understand the responsibilities that come hand in hand with firearms are the ones whom often choose not to be.

Sounds like the breakup was a very traumatic event. Wether it was a sudden thing or a series of smaller events leading up to, it can take a long time for your brain to really process and deal with everything. I can't, for obvious reasons, offer professional advice or diagnosis but I can speak from experience... It's possible that perhaps your mind is using dream time to sort everything out. I suggest that because it's happened to me - I still have dreams that are clearly influenced by experiences in Iraq and for a good year after my big breakup I had lots of intense and symbolic things happen whild dreaming. I hope things get better in this department for you. Sleep issues, when left unresolved, can really have a negative impact on your quality of life.

I don't think there's really much of a difference between 1 and 2, actually... Anyone care to chime in? -
New from FL - Looking to Restart my AFF
BigMikeH77 replied to rohicks's topic in Introductions and Greets
Hi and welcome! I just started my AFF a couple of weeks ago here in Denver. Since you're clearly not current and left off with AFF-1, you will have to repeat that jump. Just for good measure, you will probably want to take the ground class again to reintroduce youraelf to the equipment and procedures and stuff. Your DZ may or may not require it. Fortunately for you, the weather in Jacksonville will probably make it much easier to stay current durinf the winter on your AFF than, say, Indiana or Denver :-)
